This
is
a
nice
modern
hostel,
with
one
very
serious
problem.
The
centre
of
Santa
Marta
has
a
strong
police
presence.
But
this
place
has
been
developed
it
on
a
quiet
street,
slightly
outside
the
centre.
It
seems
criminals
know
that
rich
foreigners
are
staying
here.
We
were
warned
by
a
member
of
staff
not
to
walk
the
street
at
night.
The
next
day,
3
other
guests
were
robbed
at
gunpoint,
just
metres
from
the
entrance.
For
me,
this
makes
the
whole
place
questionable.
And
I
wonder
if
they
shouldn't
invest
in
armed
private
security,
which
you
see
at
many
businesses
in
Colombia.
If
you
stay
here,
be
aware
that
you
should
probably
take
a
taxi
every
time
you
come
and
go,
certainly
at
night.
[Hostel

saying
they're
open
for
suggestions]
I
made
one
suggestion
above.
And
a
very
easy
thing
would
be
to
advise
EVERYONE
of
the
risk
on
check-in,
rather
than
have
staff
whispering
warnings
here
and
there.
I'm
sure
that's
not
how
you
want
to
welcome
people
on
arrival,
but
it's
the
only
responsible
thing
to
do.
