This is a nice modern hostel, with one very serious problem. The centre of Santa Marta has a strong police presence. But this place has been developed it on a quiet street, slightly outside the centre. It seems criminals know that rich foreigners are staying here. We were warned by a member of staff not to walk the street at night. The next day, 3 other guests were robbed at gunpoint, just metres from the entrance. For me, this makes the whole place questionable. And I wonder if they shouldn't invest in armed private security, which you see at many businesses in Colombia. If you stay here, be aware that you should probably take a taxi every time you come and go, certainly at night. [Hostel responded saying they're open for suggestions] I made one suggestion above. And a very easy thing would be to advise EVERYONE of the risk on check-in, rather than have staff whispering warnings here and there. I'm sure that's not how you want to welcome people on arrival, but it's the only responsible thing to do.

Very clean and comfortable private rooms. Quiet location in a side street. If you have to go to Santa Marta for a stop in between travels, then I can absolutely recommend. Nice view from the pool on the rooftop bar too :)

Stayed here twice, rooms and service are above par especially considering the price. Viajero in general has great facilities, very private dorms, overall great quality and great service from the staff. Ines even fixed my bag by sewing it, great service!! Next to that is bar personal very friendly, shout out to Angel and Camila aswell!👌 Only downside is the location, I heard multiple stories of people getting robbed close to the hostel. Hostel itself can't really do anything about it, but if I have to call one downside, that would be it.

Great rooms, both private and dorms are clean and beautiful. Nice place all around. Bar and rooftop pool are amazing, restaurant has great dishes and prices are great too. Staff are very nice and helpful, coming again for sure!

Nice place to stay with an amazing rooftop and funny karaoke night! Santa Marta itself is not so special but I can recommend this place as stay over while on your way to the east, west, or inland. Rooms are quite full with a lot of people with only one shower, so there can be a line for this. Staff is nice and good breakfast.

Viajero hostel in Santa Marta is such a great place to spend your time while traveling. The garden and rooftop terrace with a swimming pool are perfect for relaxing, remote working, and meeting other travellers. There's a good balance between internationals and Colombians staying in this hostel. I kept on coming back to the same hostel both for Christmas as NYE as the energy is just right! Maria and Edgar at the reception have been too kind from the moment I arrived, while Andres has been so fun to talk to and learn more about Colombia and the things to do here! 10 out of 10!! Highly recommend this hostel!

This is our second time coming to this beautiful hostel. The staff is incredible, they are so sweet, funny and helpful, they are the best part of the whole experience. The Xmas food was over the top, the regular food is very good as well. The time and activities at the bar are just great. I would just change the breakfast options a bit because they can be repetitive, but overall is a salid 10/10.

Fantastic hostel! Nice and clean rooms and beds! The location is perfect and the place is nice to hang out especially at the pool at the roof top. The staff were so nice and helpful. Julius helped us with all our questions. Nothing to complain about, can definitely recommend!

First time in Colombia and Viajero SM was one of four hostels I stayed at. By far my favorite hostel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Super thankful for Carlos for teaching me to dance without judgement and for guiding us around town. The environment created a culture of making friends and it was very nice to know you’re amongst great people

Unfortunately mixed feelings about this place - the vibe during the day is very nice, as well as the restaurant and common spaces, the room was also very comfortable, though quite dark. The biggest problem is that this place during nights is more like a discotheque than a hostel...loud music is on on the rooftop until 12-1 am and because the rooms are located around patio this works like a well, it's even louder in the rooms than on the rooftop itself...just a warning if you think of taking a rest before or after trekking, it's not a good place. I understand it's a hostel, but still some people want to sleep at night, right?

Comfortable lobby area with some couches, a ping pong table, and a desktop computer. Rooms are comfortable but the washroom cleanliness and water pressure were mediocre in my females-only dorm. The restaurant is nice and better than average hostel breakfasts. The upstairs rooftop area didn’t seem to have much activity when I went. I didn’t find this hostel overly social, but maybe because I didn’t attend the pub crawls. Location can be better as it’s a 14 min walk from the main area with restaurants/bars. Seems to be in the middle of nowhere though not super far from the international marina (13 min walk). As with all Viajero hostels, they are good for safety with the fob system (no need to bring a lock).

*Carlos* The party host and salsa instructor made it for me. I wasn’t even a guest I just showed up for drinks and the sunset on the rooftop and Carlos who has an amazing vibe to him swept us all up and got a group doing salsa together. I highly recommend their free clases on the schedule. Easy place to meet people, good drinks, good vibe, best sunsets 🙌

Great spacious dorm rooms and very clean. The staff make this large hostel feel so welcoming and friendly. Spoke most to Julius and Andrés who were working when I was there but I got the sense that everyone who works there is just lovely! I will be recommending this place to anyone going to Santa Marta for sure!

Best hostel Ive ever stayed at by far. The service at the front desk with take care of you. I was stuck in bed with stomach issues and basically couldn’t leave the bathroom. The girl at the front desk waited for her shift to end, then walked to the pharmacy and picked up loperimide for me. Every function here is staffed by lovely, happy, charming, and gracious people. I have made many friends here too. As a 45 year old I didn’t feel out of my element and there is extreme privacy and security in the forms.

This hostel is large, open, modern, and clean. The staff is lovely. Service is excellent. The rooftop is nice as all have said. It is very secure inside but outside warnings should heeded— people have been robbed outside the doors and at knifepoint in town. I am here currently— my last night. This review is simply for anyone looking to book on a Wednesday night. If you want any peace or sleep, or need rest before excursions or hiking the national park, DO NOT book here on a Wednesday night. There is karaoke, bad karaoke, LOUD karaoke, ear shattering rooftop-karaoke wafting down through the floors and through earplugs. Sleep is impossible. It goes for hours, and until midnight. Otherwise, nice people. Good burger.

Front desk: Eilin, Lara and Dallana are super friendly, cheerful, always with a beautiful smile and, very knowledgeable of places to go, where to shop and where to eat. Restaurant Papau: Valentina is always ready to answer questions and, knows the menu inside out. Great service and amazing attitude. Housekeeping: Yohana keeps my room immaculate. Every time I enter my room, it shines of how clean she left it. Amazing job and great service.

Great Hostel with a great location, the rooftop is really comfortable and the pool is nice after a long day. The staff is super welcoming, especially Ines, Angel and Eilin ! I'll be back 😉

I had an absolutely fantastic time in this hostal - and because of this I kept booking more nights. Probably the best Viajero I’ve stayed in throughout my travels around Latin America over the last 15 months.

Great hostel, very cool activities (loved the salsa class), good rooms, excellent staff. Only thing I can say against is that it is located a little bit outsideof the historic centre of Santa Marta (but still within a walking distance)

Really nice hostel with great beds with curtains and separation. We stayed in a mixed room there was a shower, sink and toilet in the room. There is a pool a very good restaurant for lunch and dinner!

Great social vibes, and great atmosphere. Staff is super friendly and kind. The rooms are comfy and clean. The food is really nice, they offer healthy options like "make your own salad" which is pretty cool. The views and the pool are cool too.

Hostel is nice, stuff is helpful. But please NOTE that this is party hostel. So it’s very noisy whole night !! Bar is open long, they have karaoke night etc. Lot of fun if you wanna party. Less if you just want to sleep. I didn’t sleep well. Also i was looking for a pool but was closed and dirty, so i woudn’t use it even if it’s open. Breakfast for 10 000 pesos was nice. I like that. Security was okay. We leaved our bags for a day over there and no problem.

The worst hostel I have ever been at. Only 1 dish in the restaurant, which opens for only 1 hour during the day. the sheets in the room were dirty, the toilet in the front floor always been dirty with awful smell. The hostel decides to close every place you want to sit and chill with, so if you want to have fun later then 18, find somewhere else. and the service of the employees was the worst I have seen in a while. Never want to help, all the glasses were dirty when the bartender served us drinks, the drinks most of the time are hot, and there is no food in the hostel because the restaurant always close, or they will tell you "we are closing in 5 minutes so we cant make you food". the place is expensive, think 5 or 6 times about buying a night there.

The hostel is great and totally worth trying it. Nice bar, restaurant and swimming pool. The only downside is the restrictive lobby staff members. After a certen hour they shut down everything and they expect people to act like in a nursing home. I asked for five more minutes to finish my drink and after 2 minutes they rudely told me that my 5 mins expired. I complied but still... I understand they want to keep the place quiet but they could loosen up a little.

My first experience staying long term at a hostel and it was amazing. The facilities were clean and the staff was friendly, helpful and very informative. They have daily activities for the guests, a fast and stable internet connection and a resto bar for your snacking needs! Def recommend this place!

I really enjoyed this hostel and am very thankful for Carlos making our stay extra special. From karaoke and dance lessons to food tasting and some Colombian history he made sure everyone was included and having a great time. Overall the hostel was clean with lots of cool areas to hangout, curtains on the beds in the dorm room are nice for some privacy.

The staff are very friendly, and the vibe of the hostel is awesome. The rooftop pool was perfect, and the bar was nice. The restaurant had lots of nice options. The beds were comfortable and spacious. I wish that the beds had little fans in them so make the air conditioner flow better! I would stay here again.

Amazing hostel. It was a great vibe and clean. The food at the restaurant was great too! I stayed here for a few nights and didn’t want to leave. The service was unmatched and Edgar was really welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. Would recommend staying here

Could not recommend this hostel enough!!!! The location, rooftop pool / bar, delicious breakfast, spacious rooms, private, clean comfy beds, daily activities are enough for 5 stars, but it is the incredible staff that meant I had to write my first review ever !!!! Monica, Carlos, Julius, Cristina at the bar and Josef on taxis are incredibly welcoming and make you feel like a part of their family within 5 minutes of meeting you!!!!! (All of the staff are just as incredible but I didn’t get all their names) They were ready to help with any and every problem I had to make sure I had the easiest and best experience in Santa Marta. The vibe here is friendly, lively and comforting. I extended my stay by like 4 nights because I loved it here so much. I’m going to miss this hostel so much and will make sure to come back !!!!!

This Hostel was so friendly and helpful. It was my first day in Colombia and Maria and Monica made me at home. Maria works her butt off to make her guests feel welcome. It is close to the ATM machines, clario, grocery stores and the centre. There were taxis outside the hostel so it made it easy to go anywhere. Thanks for a great stay, I would highly recommend.

Generally really good in terms of location, amenities, room, food etc. Carlos on reception is fab. I can’t speak for other floors, but the only thing that’s irritating is that if you’re on the third floor it is incredibly loud as it’s under the bar. And it really just doesn’t need to be. We were in there one afternoon with only 2-3 other people all doing stuff on laptops and at one stage they just cranked up the music to full volume for some bizarre reason. If it was slightly quieter this place would be really excellent.

The hostel is great especially the rooftop with the pool! The staff is really friendly, you have edgar & Julius at the reception they help you with every question. Also the staff at the bar is nice, Christiana and the other girls are really funny and make good drinks. On weekends you also can get fantastic tattoos.
