Little more upmarket than most. Lovely a la carte menu. Lovely hosts.

Disappointing restaurant, from the service, to the food and atmosphere. Service was poor (the lady serving us was doing her job reluctantly and didn’t dare to smile once), the food was boring (hospital-like vegetables) and the atmosphere was uncharmingly old-school (imagine 70s songs on repeat in a basement with naval interiors). Definitely felt like a rip-off.

(Translated by Google) Everything perfect and spectacular, great service and great cuisine. Without a doubt, the best value for money in SanSebastian. I was a week ago with my daughter, and we are already looking forward to returning to San Sebastian only to return to dinner at Juanito Kojua. We had the best meal and experience at this restaurant. Everything on the tasting menu was delicious and we couldn’t wait for the next plate to show up. The wine was delicious, the meal was wonderful, and the service was great. We were a party of 6 and not one of us had anywhere near the negative experiences posted by other reviewers. We enjoyed a 3 hour lunch and a relaxing pace. The fist course “fish cheek”is a local delicacy, perfectly prepared and not to be missed. The rest of the items were equally as delicious and unique. The dessert plate was generous and stood on its own (FYI Basque cheesecake is also unique and known for its caramelized burnt-colored top...but the flavor is creamy and wonderful) The full tasting menu gets you a perfect basque cuisine experience and well worth your time

The four of us enjoyed our dining experience at Juanito Kojua very much. This is old-school, very traditional Basque cuisine. Service was excellent but understated, stoic women who undoubtedly have been at the restaurant for years. We saw some smiles poking through the seriousness as the night progressed. I thought they were wonderful. We all ordered off a fixed price menu. The lamb cutlets were very good as was the tuna and tomato salad. And the Basque cheesecake for dessert was delicious and must be tried. Great wines. Fantastic bread — the best on the trip. We were glad out last dinner in San Sebastian was here.

Was so looking forward to our meal here, accompanied by a Spanish friend who lives locally. Sadly we were all disappointed. For the price the 3 course 'seasonal' menu was average at best. When paying the bill, the waitress openly complained when we wanted to pay a split bill with our credit cards and we left feeling that we were just a nuisance.

(Translated by Google) A restaurant "of the past", that is, one that offers an extensive menu and excellent quality. A careful and trustworthy service. The "txangurro a la donostiarra" one of their delicatessen. The price is not abusive but the quality and good work of its chefs must be paid. Fine dining at the oldest restaurant in San Sebastian. We got told it has been opened for 70 years. The service and atmosphere is A* and food is not too expensive. My favourite dishes: -Jamón Ibérico de Bellota. The day premium ham descended in front of us. I have to admit, our waiter was explaining to us how rare this Jamón was but all I could think about is how I am going to eat it! -Lobster Paella It's just so beautiful, this is a 3 person amount, costs €30pp. I did find the whole dish to be too rich, I prefer the paella to have all sorts of seafood but they just had lobster in it. There were 5 of us, i dont think we could've had one portion each due to the richness but it was a worthwhile experience. There was still a portion left over at the end and I found myself picking at it with my spoon slowly 😄 They have a shellfish tank as you enter the restaurant so all the shellfish you have at the restaurant is fresh

(Translated by Google) Gourmet restaurant in a nice setting and cheaper than in France. The tasting menu for the whole table at 55 € very good but you are in Spain so the desserts are a little disappointing. Nice Spanish wine list and everything is translated into French. We can come without reservation at this time because it is the low season but suddenly do not arrive too late (after 3pm) because we were served on the run.

So very delicious. And perfect service. I was dining alone and I was sat in view of the kitchen. The kitchen is very professional. I enjoyed watching them work. The service was wonderful and I was pleased to find a server who spoke English. I got the tasting menu and a couple of glasses of Albariño upon suggestion. It was marvelous. I now need a siesta.

Bit oldschool, and very fast food delivery, bit great if you are on your own and looking for a quick but great tasting meal They speak French and English well and take the time to explain the menu if you don't understand it. Payed 38 euro's for a 3 course meal with great seafood, looks more expensive than it is and the food quality was great for the price that I payed.

  • 3/5 Andrew F. 1 year ago on Google
Avoid like the plague. This place is super Mega overrated and they display the michelin guide pictures to mislead you that they're actually rated and have stars. Which they definitely do not. If you're looking for a trite northern Spanish continental meal served by rather surly ancient waitresses, you've come to the right place. And by the way it aint real cheap

It took michelin one star for2019, 2020, 2021.For the basque territory is good and clean , the best maybe in town but for the real global standards is very poor. The basque hasn't good cooking it's a tourist mythology that they have gastronomy. Don't wait to find the Italian ot Greek service and gastronomy.

Went here with a group of 14. Our server was very organized. Had our orders down to a T. Food came as quickly as possible. My order was their monkfish and grilled prawns. I didn't particularly like the red sauce, which they called americaine sauce 😏all in all it was a great dining experience. They had prepared a desert with a candle for my birthday, which our group surprised me with🥰🥰🤗 I'd definitely go there again!! After all it's been a Michelin star resto for a good number of years!! 👏👏👏

Was incredibly disappointed with this meal. Felt like such a waste of money and we disliked it so much we didn’t bother ordering a dessert if the starter and main was anything to go by. The crab and asparagus starter wasn’t nice. Asparagus was very overcooked and the plate was watery. My clam and rice main was soaking in oil so I couldn’t finish it. My other half didn’t finish his fish and potatoes. I was told you couldn’t have a bad meal in San Sebastián but I guess you can.

  • 2/5 Rich M. 3 years ago on Google
Like others have written, not sure how this place has a Michelin star based on dinner experience last night. Both my wife and I went for the seasonal menu instead of the tasting menu. The food was simply underwhelming and flawed when compared to other Michelin star restaurants we’ve been to. The asparagus with crab had shell pieces in it. The rice with clams was too salty. The monkfish/prawn skewer was dry and bland. The only decent part of the meal was the dessert (cheesecake and profiteroles).

Cited as being the oldest restaurant in the old area of San Sebastian, upon entering there's definitely an old-world vibe that you feel at classically high end restaurants. Me and a friend opted for the chateaubriand cut of txuleta as our lunch options, although a small aquarium filled with some of the largest crabs and lobsters we'd seen was also tempting. The steaks arrived perfectly cooked, with a charred exterior, but rare on the inside. The chateaubriand isn't my optimal cut of steak, but the meat was obviously of high quality. What really made the dish stand out were the sides, with a rich foie gras basque peppers and umami-rich mushrooms all adding a variety of textures and tastes. It was the first meal I had in San Sebastian, and an amazing inroad into the unique and gastronomic food scene that pervades the city.

It was quite expensive experience for us, but it totally worth every cent spent! We took 3 menu's (with different meals, about 36e each) and a single degustation menu (58e if I'm not mistaken), and we shared them to taste every meal we all had. That was extremely rare case for me, but I (as well as others with me) liked almost everything, if not all! Properly prepared delicios food! I'd like to thank everyone involved there for the great supper!

(Translated by Google) A little disappointed in our experience at this Michelin star restaurant. We ordered 3 menus and the food was tasteless, both the starter and the main course. However, the cheesecake was delicious. As for the service, let's say that the waitresses served without enthusiasm or energy. In my opinion, if it is promoted as a haute cuisine restaurant, there should be a more dynamic and professional service. By professional, I mean being more attentive to customers, knowing how to serve wine and placing cutlery and plates more delicately. Unfortunately, it was not. In short, we will not repeat. I hope that these comments can help you improve the quality of your service.
