If you’re in Machico you must go up! Just 4km of trail, medium difficulty. I suggest you wear hiking shoes, going up to the top the ground is muddy and you have to be very careful not to slip. To return to town you can decide, once you reach the top, to go back from the main road, it is about a 45-minute walk. The view is breathtaking and absolutely worth it but if you suffer from vertigo I would not recommend going up. Once at the top you will find a small kiosk selling food and drinks. The toilet costs 50 cents if you don't consume anything. Enjoy!

Views are beautiful. Some parking spots here. Smells really bad, lots of trash just lying around, needs a cleaner desperately.

Amazing viewpoint of Machico. However, don’t stop at the cell tower. Go up the stairs and then up the trail to the rocks, climb some rocks to get to the highest point to get a pretty nice sunset view. There is only one downside, it’s full of flying small insecta on the top, really annoying. Bugspray did not help at all. The view was amazing and you can also see airplanes taking off and landing .

We walked the trail from Canical to levado do Canical. It was such a rewarding walk. There's lots of uphill but the train is good so just pace yourself and hydrate yourself. Super beautiful spot to have a picnic! If you're planning a decent down to Machico beach, highly recommend you take the off road path through the mountain. Not possible to do with a car, must be down on foot. There are stairs in the past that lead right into the mountain and all the way around with absolutely stunning views!!

Nice view where you can observe planes coming to/from the Funchal airport. But it needs a bit of maintenance (toilets are closed and not functioning) & to be cleaned up (particularly, as a consequence of the previously mentioned problem 🙂)

It's such an amazing view of Machico, the airport (with the possibility of watching the planes landing and taking off) and sea. Great area to have a barbecue and spend sometime to appreciate the view.

Excellent viewpoint. Can grab a bit of delicious madeira cake and a glass of the local brew from the refreshments kiosk and relax as you watch those airplanes come in to land down below!

The viewpoint gives wonderful view of airport and area nearby. If you are lucky and wind right you may see a landing or takeoff. From the top it all looks like robotic model. However, a small golden sand beach and other islands can be seen. Not too difficult to reach. Better to visit in evening for good photography.

Great spot to visit after arriving in Madeira. Get some fresh air after your long flight. Views of the airport, Machico, Canical and Sao Lourenco. Superb!

Very nice place for plane spotters to 3rd dangerous airport of the world Good view point. Little Kiosk mit Softdrinks and icecream.

Great views of the town and Funchal airport allowing you to watch planes land. Very small parking area gets cramped easily as it is so popular with bus tours. You have to pay €0.50 to use toilets but they are very clean.

Amazing viewpoint! There is also a snack truck for hungry people.

Beautiful scenery, te road goes up to the top but not much space to park. Then you can climb a bit further and enjoy the view and the planes taking off and landing!
