Quiet secluded place for a picnic in the mountains. It is down off the view of the road. There are good views, picnic tables and trees for shade. It is a little rugged due to unmowed field grasses at the time I visited. There are toilets, but no water. Prepare to take out your trash and provide your own means of cooking as I didn't see any trash cans, bbq spots or fire rings. Plenty of room to park here though. You will need an adventure pass $5 per day for use of the entire forest. You can get these at markets and gas stations in Julian, Descanso or Pine Valley which are all before you drive out the Sunrise Hwy.

Great spot for PCT hikers to stop and rest their legs in the shade for a bit. There’s a huge water reservoir but if you do get the water it definitely needs to be filtered and treated before cooking with or drinking from.

Nice picnic area nestled amongst the trees. Pacific Crest trail runs through it on way to Julian. No services, pit toilet only. Forest Adventure Pass required to use the area.

    Beautiful flattish hiking spot.

We used this as a jump point for a long hike so didn't spend much time there. It seems nice and pretty popular for picnics. The bathrooms are pretty clean for vault toilets too.

What a great place to hike and then have a picnic. Plenty of parking and park benches. Each bench has its own fire pit to barbecue. Wonderful place.

Amazing hike on a section of the PCT. Highly recommend doing Garnet Peak as well. Super well marked trail.

Beautiful views. Trailheads to PCT and another trail. Easy to do a short or long hike. Plenty of shady picnic tables. Enough parking. Forest Adventure Pass required. Great place to pit stop on 79/Sunrise Highway. Lots of backpackers. Visited twice. Vault toilets had hand sanitizer but no TP. Smelled like nothing else and filled with flies. Doors wouldn't shut all the way. BYO water.

Great trails to run. Bring water for your dog and clean up after it. Bring some vicks and earplugs if you plan to use the bathroom.

If you're looking for a decent picnic area where you can day trip with a bonfire and BBQ, this is it. It is right next to the road, but makes up for it by having a good sight of scenery. Unfortunately no overnight, but not really what it's ment for. Set of vault toilets that could be cleaner. Plenty of hiking in the area as it sits on the PCT. Short hike to the best viewpoint San Diego has to offer (I my opinion).

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Sooo pretty - beautifully kept trails for just about any fitness level. Lots of picnic tables, lots of photo spots, decent bathroom (no running water). A lovely gem!
