Very nice place to take some pictures, I recommend to go night and day time. Best pictures can be take on the opposite side of reforma ave. ( Towards Chapultepec). We preferred on the night time. Very safe at anytime.

It’s a monument - you can visit anytime. There are benches and restaurants, and hotels. We were there in the morning to wait for our tour ( hot air balloon over the Teotihuacán). It was very early in the morning, still there were a lot of people hanging out. The monument looks great when it’s lit in the night. A nice place to visit and hangout.

Unmistakeable symbol for us as Mexicans and beautiful monument. VERY SAD what recently happened to it. Very disappointing how a group of "so called" activists who really are just vandals decided to violate such important landmark. Obviously they don't understand what this represents and it's extremely shameful.

Lovely tourist attraction surrounded by lots of restaurants, parks, clubs, hotels, public places, outdoor food stalls, souvinir shops etc. Good place to spend time with friends or just gaze at the traffic! Evening time is the best as everything is lit up and looks fabulous! Less crowded too!

Cool place to hang out a lot of restaurants around the meaning is below of the location. El Ángel was built in 1910 during the presidency of Porfirio Díaz by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado, to commemorate the centennial of the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. In later years it was made into a mausoleum for the most important heroes of that war. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mexico City, and it has become a focal point for both celebration and protest. It resembles the July Column in Paris, the Victory Column in Berlin and the Columbus Monument in New York City.

A stunning statue in the heart of Mexico City. A really well sculpted monument that stands tall and is a great reference point when exploring the city.

Cars are circling around, so it's difficult to take close pictures. The photo point is in the middle of a carroad crossing, so it's dangerous, so be careful. Try a tour of the nearby Turo city at night. The night view is very nice.

Built in 1910 by then President Porfirio Diaz, it is a monument to Mexico’s Independence. It’s one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mexico City (it’s in almost every movie, novela and video shot in CDMX), and it has become a focal point for both celebration and protest. It resembles the July Column in Paris, the Berlin Victory Column in Berlin and Columbus Circle in New York City.

The Angel of Independence, most commonly known by the shortened name El Ángel and officially known as Monumento a la Independencia ("Monument to Independence"), is a victory column on a roundabout on the major thoroughfare of Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City. It resembles the July Column in Paris, the Berlin Victory Column in Berlin and Columbus Circle in New York City. The base of the column is quadrangular with each vertex featuring a bronze sculpture symbolizing law, war, justice and peace. Originally, nine steps led to the base, but due to the sinking of the ground, an ongoing problem in Mexico City, fourteen more steps have been added.

Really nice landmark and a very known icon on CDMX. If you visit cdmx you have to visit the Angel of independence. Unfortunately I was tight on schedule to take a better look at this at sunlight and also it was under maintenance. Hope to see it better in the next rip I have to CDMX

Great center piece. With all of the security around, not sure how graffiti got to it. Spending time to clean it up though. Wish we could see it without all the scaffolding.

Also known as el Ángel, this iconic monument was built in 1910 to commemorate the 100th year of the beginning of Mexico’s struggle for independence from Spain. In 1925, the bottom part was converted to a mausoleum for the important heroes of that war. During the widespread demonstrations over violence against women in 2019, it was defaced with graffiti, so authorities surrounded it with protective metal plates while cleaning it up and adding more retrofits for future earthquakes. Only a couple of weeks ago were the plates removed. I was fortunate enough to be staying in a hotel room that had a view.

This is a beautiful place. To show Mexico’s independence, but there is no safe way of crossing to the angel so be careful. Though I still recommend going there.

The area around here is really what you want to see! The angel was really cool to see and glad I got the photos. Some of the tour buses pickup right here and make sure you can run across traffic to see it :)

Awesome tourist attraction surrounded by parks, hotels, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, etc. Good place to spend time with friends, walk around, or people watch. It’s a stunning and beautiful statue. If you want the statue to yourself you have to get their early to avoid so many cars in traffic and people sitting around near the statue.

Beautiful landmark surrounded by a ton of hotels and restaurants. I would recommend getting here just before sundown in order to take in the perfect view and for pics. There is no official crosswalk so simply wait for traffic to stop and make your way to the center.

A nice square where there comes a lot of tourists and walk on the side track of the road. People do photography here with the angle and the environment here is clean and cool. There keeps light in the evening which make the place attractive more. People sit there and love those place. Miss it and miss visiting Mexico

An impressive monument, but currently mostly non-accessible/non-visible due to I assume construction. That said, this is a very important monument and there are lots of things to learn about Mexican history once you can access it again.

If it wasn't surrounded by cars racing around a circle with the area at the base closed, it would be worth a stop. But given the current conditions, it's really not very interesting / there's not much to see besides the pillar and statue from afar.

Angel de Independencia, Mexico City. Such a beautiful monument with a huge presence and great meaning. Unfortunately, the monument was blocked off with steal panels at the bottom all the way around so no one could walk unto the center unto the platform of the monument. So you had to enjoy it from a far but overall still satisfying and beautiful to see. It's just strikingly breath taking. You won't regret it. It's even more beautiful at night when it lights up.

I wouldn't travel to the other side of the world to see the replica of a fallen french angel, but it's worth a look at while stollling past. It's getting 4 stars because of the back story, that a makes woman was an offense and the unveiling had to be kept to the last minute.. also the fact that many famous Mexican actresses claimed it was them.

The most iconic monument in Mexico City lives in the middle of our most beautiful avenue, Reforma. The Angel has new written messages that occur during a feminist protest, this caused by the negligence of the government to make justice over the crimes made to women. With this events the government decided to cover it and also restore it from the inside. So you won’t be able to see it completely. The due date to see our new Angel is still remain a mistery, just like the justice department work in favor of the citizens...

Go visit the Angel, even if it is under repair, although it cannot be entered, although it is vandalizing. It is an unmissable photo on your trip to CD de Mx. So there is not a safe way to get to the statue. So what I did was when the light was in red I ran across inbetween the stopped cars, PLEASE watch out for motor bikes, bikes, motorcycle. I would say that you may want to stay safe and see it from the outermost circle aka side walk. But it is a beautiful site close up.

All the way from Dallas, TX! This is a pretty busy area with cars but you can make your way over no problem! Once you get on the stairs (base of the Angel) it is a nice place to people watch and take photos! Maybe even read a book? It’s a very beautiful spot! With lots of different people and opportunities to enjoy yourself.

The Angel of Independence, most commonly known as El Ángel, is a victory column on a busy roundabout on the major thoroughfare of Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. Understanding this monument is understanding the country, so here are some fascinating facts you should know. El Monumento a la Independencia’ is a tribute to Mexico’s victory over Spain in its War of Independence. From 1521 when Hernán Cortés defeated the Aztec nation, the vast country of Mexico, once known as New Spain, remained a colony of Spain for over 300 years. On September 16, 1810, according to Mexican tradition and folklore, a Catholic priest named Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, went into the parish church in the town of Dolores, rang the church bell, and delivered a speech now known as the Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores) demanding the end of Spanish rule. This started the brutal Mexican War of Independence that finally led to Mexico’s status as an independent monarchy and then a republic. Though on August 24, 1821, Spain withdrew and officially recognized Mexico as an independent country, Mexico celebrates September 16 as its Independence Day, the day father Costilla rang the bell in 1810. The iconic monument was built and inaugurated on 16th September 1910, by President Porfirio Diaz, to commemorate the 100th year of the beginning of Mexico’s struggle for independence from Spain. Interestingly the Mexican Revolution occurred this same year and raged till 1935. One of the aims of the Revolution was to overthrow President Diaz, who oversaw the building of the monument. While Diaz was responsible for modernizing the nation, he was not popular among the poor masses. The events which surrounded the building of the monument were also a turning point and a defining moment in Mexico’s history. The 36 meters column is made up of steel enclosed with quarried stones, highlighted with garlands and rings with the names of Independence figures. It also contains a two-hundred step staircase which leads to the standpoint area. Its main facade includes an inscription reading “The Nation to the Heroes of Independence” (La Nación a los Héroes de la Independencia). The 24k gold-covered, 6.7 meters bronze statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of Victory crowns the tower. However, today’s statue is a copy of the original, which fell from its pedestal and broke into several pieces during an earthquake in 1957. She holds a crown of laurel in her right hand, symbolizing Victory, while in her left she holds a broken chain, symbolizing Freedom. The base of the column is quadrangular with each vertex featuring a bronze sculpture symbolizing law, war, justice, and peace. Next to the column there is a group of marble statues of some of the heroes of the War of Independence. There is also a bronze statue of a giant lion led by a child, representing strength and the innocence of youth during War but docility during Peace. Within the base is a tiny mausoleum. A golden chest with important documents related to independence and a coin collection are embedded in the foundation. An eternal flame burns in the base. The remains of Mexico’s greatest revolutionaries who were active during the fight for independence lie here. Originally there were nine steps leading to the base, but due to the sinking of the ground, an ongoing problem in Mexico City, fourteen more steps were added. It resembles the July Column in Paris and the Victory Column in Berlin. Advice: If you want to get close to the monument you should be careful while running across the busy road in the roundabout. However, it isn't difficult if you wait for a local and follow their lead. People in Mexico (CDMX) are very friendly and helpful.

Every capital seems to boast a column of some kind and Mexico is no different. This particular column is the home of the Angel of Independence. A statue of a winged female that has historical significance of some note to the locals but is of negligible artistic value to a foreigner. Surrounded by skyscrapers and a whole lot of cars the angel of independence is a nice sight but one that can essentially be skipped unless you are running out of things to see and do. Good for a few pictures only, really...

Beautiful place and very characteristic of Mexico City. It was very safe (different types of police: normal and tourism), had a fantastic view of the monument, and had access to some city tours as well (bus tours, and private tours, among others). Totally recommended.

This is a very busy spot! Many people were taking in the view and getting photos. We enjoyed shopping at the Christmas booths along both sdes of the street. There are lots of great gift options and yummy foods to try. The poinsettias along the road add a festive touch.

Accidentally visited here on a truly special Sunday. The roads were closed off around the statue and a drumming band were giving the most fantastic display in bright make up and clothing. Lots of stalls for souvenirs, bags, food and musical entertainment also. A keep fit class was also going on. To cap it off it was filling with Argentinian supporters as they had just won the World Cup. Great atmosphere and stacks of police presence made it easier to relax. A truly unforgettable day. Oops, almost forgot, the statue is of great historical significance and very imposing. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful neoclassical monument. The roundabout sidewalks have beautiful Jacaranda trees and they were blooming when I visited in 2022 and 2023. The monument was closed in March 2023 for restoration work. When it opens (if it isn't open already), be very careful when crossing the street to get to the monument since there's no pedestrian safety.

One of the most iconic and significant monuments in Mexico City is the Angel of Independence. This magnificent monument holds great historical and cultural importance for the country. Inspired by the statue in France, it stands tall and proud, symbolizing Mexico's independence and freedom. During our visit, we were fortunate to be in the city near the vibrant celebration of Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). As we strolled along the Avenue Reforma, we were greeted by a colorful display of decorations, showcasing the rich traditions and customs of this unique Mexican festival. The festive atmosphere and lively parade added an extra touch of magic to our experience.

Beautiful with nice lighting. Benches all around to sit and be romantic. Reforma in general is amazing for walking. I have an apartment right off of Reforma and see the Angel every day. What a blessing! If you see girls in elaborate dresses taking photos, it's for quinceañeras as people come daily from all around to get pics there.

Gorgeous and absolutely stunning. Came here for Christmas and could not have had a better time. The Statue stands as a centerpiece to the Christmas market that runs along the street. A very beautiful must-see iconic landmark of Mexico City. It is more beautiful in person than in pictures. You can get an uber ride to El Angel or get a tour bus next to the Cathedral in the downtown square and take the route that will pass next to the Angel. If you want to take your time taking pictures, take an uber there. If you just want to pass by and look at it, take the Tourbus. I took the Turibus.
