I am very disappointed with this hotel. I had an unfortunate situation, in the room next to me there where some people smoking, could be tabaco or something else, I am not sure what substance, but somebody was smoking. I honestly don’t care if smell is present in the hall, the problem was when I entered my room, because it was also smelling. There was also screaming in that same room next to mine. Like many, I am traveling for business, so sleep is key. I contacted front desk, security talked with the people on room next door and immediately knocked on my door, exposing me for denouncing the activities. I mentioned to security that they should be more careful not to expose a person like this, I got a push back from them, not even recognizing I might be right… sure enough when occupants next door started leaving, they started insulting… Instead of kicking them out, they move me to another room, which a/c is. It working… It is almost midnight now… And for the third time they send me to another room. When I told them I should get that night reimbursed, they did a lot of noise saying I would get an email affirming I would get a discount for 1 night.. as you might expect nothing happened to this date. People at front desk are amazing! But management lacks training, very amateur response, more alike of a 1 star hotel. If the stars of a hotel consider this types of situation, and not only the view, this is NOT A five star hotel experience. I recommend that for the price, go to a real 5 star like Hampton/Hilton or Raddisson, these hotels train their staff.

The photos of the rooms on the hotel's website are quite deceptive. The rooms are far from modern and show no signs of recent renovation. The carpets are worn and the rooms have a musty odor. Outdated wooden furniture and headboards add to the dated atmosphere. The beds are uncomfortably firm and stiff, while the shower pressure is disappointingly weak. I had to switch rooms because the shower head barely produced a trickle of water. The maintenance worker's attempt to fix the issue resulted in minimal improvement, leaving me dissatisfied. It was only after I complained about the dirty bathroom and mold on the walls that they agreed to move me to another room. It's important to note that there are no beachfront rooms at this hotel. While there is a beach view, it's marred by the noisy traffic from a nearby highway, and the hotel itself is not situated near any accessible beaches. You'll find yourself in an urban environment with limited access to nearby attractions, so be prepared to rely on rideshares or taxis for transportation. The redeeming qualities of this hotel include its friendly customer service and the well-maintained lobby. If you're on a budget and not too particular about your accommodations, this hotel could be an adequate choice. However, for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation or a memorable introduction to the Dominican Republic, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The rooms need to be updated and can probably use a fresh paint job. Besides that I felt safe the service is good. The breakfast staff is amazing 👏🏾. The pool was great never full which was great, one will get to enjoy it. Bar service can be better. I used uber to get around, which was very easy.I'm still waiting on the hotel to release my money to me. This was from December. I emailed and told it would be taken care of, it's now January 14, 2024 and I still see the charge pending. Overall I would go back.

Very clean, service was wonderful, great amenities, breakfast was amazing, We stayed here for 7 day with breakfast included. We arrived 3 hours before our check in time since we had an early flight, we were given drinks and a comfortable place to rest in the lobby. While we waited we had lunch in the Filigrana. I consider the Filigrana restaurant expensive but the quality matches the price plus a lovely view. Once our room was ready the service people took our luggage upstairs. Throughout our stay anything that we needed the staff brought to our room, they addressed any concerns we had quickly. Housekeeping was on top of everything. Staff were very kind. We used every facility while there, the gym, the pool, the bar, the Filigrana and the breakfast buffet. Breakfast was my favorite part of the hotel it was a huge spread. The location is very convienent to spend time in La Zona Colonial, the Agora mall, the Jardin Botánico, tres ojos and all of the other historical sites to see. We visited them all and it was very easy to catch Ubers and Taxis from the hotel. One tip is if you need to order food and you’re from the USA you can use Uber Eats to get food to the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Hotel Catalonia Santo Domingo. The staff was shockingly rude and completely unaccommodating. It was as if they went out of their way to make my visit unpleasant. I would strongly advise against staying here if you expect any level of decent customer service.

Great Location, close to everything. Room and shower definitely needs an update and TV has to be updated like right away. Service was good. We had breakfast Buffet which was average but lunch was to the point. Loved the restaurant and views it offers. I personally had great experience. Staff is well spoken. Parking has a easy access to hotel and it’s not expensive. Suggestions to readers : if you can then get the room with the breakfast as it’s cheaper if paid upfront. It’s close to all restaurants and has ocean views.

Paid $125 US dollars for one night in ocean view room. It was beautiful hotel. Also you pay $5 for 1 night parking even though in their web site it says that parking is free.

Great ocean views and excellent breakfast buffet. The staff was very friendly and service oriented. AC was fine and could not get below 22.5. Water was very hot in the shower with good pressure. They are renovating some floors. The pool was nice.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my wife and overall, our experience was decent. The price was affordable, and the room was okay, which is what we expected for the price. The room service was a standout, as the food was delicious and the price very reasonable. However, the food at the hotel restaurant was just okay, which again, is what we expected for the price. The pool area was a bit of a disappointment, as there was only one crew member for the entire area, making it difficult to get help when needed. Additionally, the pool area could use some improvement to make it more appealing. Finally, the building had an old fashioned look and could benefit from a remodel to make it more modern and attractive. Overall, if you're looking for an affordable stay with great room service, this hotel chain could be a good option, but don't expect anything too fancy.

By far one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at while out of the United States. Everyone was so pleasant, from the concierge to the front desk attendants to the bartender. Everyone I've talked to that worked at the hotel spoke very good English. My room had a beautiful pool and ocean view; you could see the cruise boat sailing by. The breakfast buffet was just okay in terms of food but had gorgeous views. If I were ever to return, I would stay here again.

It is overall a nice hotel, great location and very professional staff but it will take a few adjustments to make it perfect. Check in took some time and was a whole process. They have multiple bars and restaurants around but many of the places looked kind of dead. The room was quite spacious, and well equipped in terms of amenities. I didn't like that we didn't have a main light over the bed, and talking about bed, it kept moving away from the headboard with us. We kept hearing a drain sound coming from the other side of the wall. The continental breakfast was a scam, they didn't even bring some butter for the toast but carried a plate full of sugars. We got to try one of the restaurants, it was quite nice and the food was good.

Catalonia Santo Domingo is a very nice Hotel to stay while in Dominican Republic. A few things could be better, mentioning using the parking garage is extra, making sure there is an actual minibar in the room before asking if it was used during checkout which is a bit confusing.

So far I’m feeling a little disappointed. There are so many upgrades that my room (#1613 lux room) needs that aren’t even expensive. The view is beautiful, but… The shower head is broken, water all over the place. Carpet has given too many years of service. And we have been waiting for almost 2 hours for someone to come open the fridge (we did leave a deposit). 🙁

Good location, poorly maintained and noisy room without privacy respect from the personnel (they just walked in my room while i was sleeping, insisting for checking the mini bar, first time I lived that). And several (fortunately not all) full of anger they make you feel uncomfortable. I feel sorry and deeply disappointed.

Nice and well located hotel. Our room had a wonderful view to the ocean. Good breakfast. Staff was very friendly (kudos to Bryan at breakfast). Room was Ok but cleaning was deficient. Restaurant was good but a bit pricey.

I am Dominican born and raised in the states. Here unless you look European or white, then the treatment and friendless that others are talking about does not take place. I had to say “buenos días” twice to the store clerk, immediately afterwards a couple came behind me to purchase and she immediately said hello. Not one to write reviews, as I rather not go back to the place. But this is a true testament to the discrimination that exists in our country with our people. People in the hospitality business need to be reminded to remove their judgements and beliefs and treat everyone equally with the respect that everyone deserves. Will NOT be staying here again, nor recommending anyone to do so. I come several times a year and this is a real shame. But their loss, not mine! The cleaning lady, however, was very warm and welcoming. I took the photo, just to show, I finished like 30 minutes ago and the store clerk would not come and pick it up, even though she’s passed by like fives times at least. Pierina

I’m staying here right now - typing this from the pool bar where I just had an amazing burger and a cold drink. The staff here is amazing. From check-in to them calling me asking if I needed anything… they are so accommodating. The property is impeccably clean and I’ve used the fitness room twice in the 24 hours I’ve been here.

Unfortunately, we did not have any warm customer service during our week long stay. To the contrary, we were often ignored, had to deal with indifference and often rude employees. When visiting the pool, we were completely ignored by staff, and treated like an inconvenience when attempting to order drinks and meals. When reaching out to the front desk for assistance with check in, room key malfunctions, or even extra blankets, we audibly heard staff complain about our requests and reluctantly respond. We strongly believe that our physical appearance and lack of Spanish is what caused such a low level of service. Our room was beautiful with a high level, ocean front room on an executive floor, and the food was excellent. But our first time visiting this beautiful country, was strongly brought down by our experience with this stay. In the end, it didn’t matter how much we spent, generously tipped or how kind we were. The general attitude toward us never changed. We were highly disappointed, dissatisfied and will not be returning to this hotel or any related in our future trips.

Absolutely great for the most part and I would come back again…. Reception ladies are absolutely amazing. Very attentive. Checked up on me throughout my stay and always made sure I was well taken care of. Had a birthday cake and champagne in my room on the day of my birthday as well. Almost was charged $30 for a guest of mine, but the male reception staff let me slide because it was my birthday. The hotel is nice, seems there is some construction going on next door but still nice. Room was great and comfortable. Views were amazing! Yulissa and Dariana in the Executive Lounge made my stay even more enjoyable. Always friendly, also gave me a birthday gift, and both was very patient with my rusty Spanish. There are a few areas of improvement: The food and service in the restaurants. Service and food at Pearl (pool bar) wasn’t the best. Asked for a drink I never got and took forever to check out. Same with the restaurant on the 5th floor (once my food came I never seem my waiter again), but food was amazing there! Room service food was not good and messed up my pizza, but the staff tried to fix my order the best they could, but it was still not good and I only ate one slice. Like I said, would still visit again and now I know where to eat and what to expect from the servers.

I celebrated my wedding at the Catalonia Santo Domingo in October of 2023. The service and the staff were amazing. I can say they made my day extra special. The guests loved their stay and will definitely come back to stay at the hotel.

WOW, WOW, WOW! I was incredibly surprised with the quality of this hotel. This is my favorite hotel in Santo Domingo and I will now only stay at this hotel whenever I visit. Extremely friendly service. The quality of the building and the rooms were great! The hotel is on yhe malecon right infront of the ocean so you get beautiful views from your hotel room (I recommend the ocean view rooms). The quality of the food, especially breakfast, was fantastic. The only negative was that the service provided in the pool area was very slow and did not match with the rest of the hotel. In addition, the prices of the lunch and dinner at the hotel's restaurant is a high premium...I definitely had sticker shock but I didn't mind it considering the nightly rate for the hotel was very good (less than $200 USD).

Great value for what you get, I've been back and forth to DR for 10 years and this is one of the nicest hotels I've been in. 5 star accommodations and views, and the food was AMAZING in the 5th floor Filigrana restaurant. We got multiple drinks, appetizers, 3 different entrées, and 3 different desserts. Everything was what you'd expect from a 4 star restaurant in the US for reasonable prices. I will 100% stop here again on my next visit.

Went with my sisters, Sept 25-30 Reservation under Walker. Have been there a few times but this will be the last. Asked for a drink at pool bar and was told "the price includes taxes" I guess he thought I couldn't afford it. My sister was not feeling well and asked to use the restroom on the lobby and was told "can't you see I'm cleaning it" our only positive interaction was with the breakfast staff, Saul, Melida and Yerdo.

My husband and I loved staying at the Catalonia in Santo Domingo! We were there for New Years Eve and had a beautiful view of the ocean during the day and the fireworks that night. The staff were friendly and helpful, and provided great service. When they were busy with a long line due to the holiday, they brought refreshments to people waiting which my husband and I thought was considerate. The room was well kept and had an incredible view. We ate at one of the restaurants and loved the food, plus they accommodated my husband's allergy which we were very grateful for. When we had to go get our Covid test for traveling, the front desk called a taxi and the driver waited while we got the test so he could bring us back to the hotel safely and that made us very comfortable. Would recommend!

Good, clean hotel, in a great oceanfront location, although it's a little dated and in need of some upgrading. Does not offer valet parking. Features what is probably the best restaurant of any hotel in DR

We lived in a suite on the 22nd floor. We arrived at 14 o'clock, but the room was not ready. I had to wait almost 1.5 hours. There were cockroaches in the room itself. The room does not correspond to a 5-star hotel, as cosmetic repairs are required. The only and most important plus is a gorgeous view of the ocean!

Amazing amazing staff starting from the front desk to the housekeeping all over the hotel. I pass 20 day on Dominican Republic after stay on Sheraton, Resinnance (worst staff) I decided extend 2 more nights here I feel like home. The hotel has beautiful views of the ocean and the city. The common areas are well maintained, clean and there is a nice restaurant, bar, amazing room service and pool that you can sit in and watch the ocean as well as when having breakfast.

Absolutely gorgeous facility to take a vacation with your family. The rooms and halls are very clean and the room service is great as well. The in resort restaurant is very good and tasty, and the prices are all good as well. Tours of the surrounding area is also very nice and love the safari.

Nice location - 4 minutes by a car to the Colonial Zone. Amazing views from the window. You should definitely get Oceanfront room. Breakfasts are very good and the restaurant on the 4th floor isn't bad as well. You should know that the pool is closed now. Staff on the reception rude a little bit. Rooms and bathrooms really need some renovation. But for the view from the window, you can forgive everything.

Great view from the hotel room, most of the staff was nice, the room looks clean and the breakfast had a lot of options. Just a few things to improve: the bath tub was a bit broken and there was this woman so rude in the snack bar, chewing with her mouth open and taking our beer order like if we “own her money or something”, soooo disrespectful. The rest of the staff was so kind that I didn’t want to remove more stars, but this situation happened when we where already upset of how things work in Santo Domingo, if you like to be treated with respect do not visit this city. such a pity half the people you can find there are treating the tourists to avoid them from coming back.

Nice hotel however they will charge you extra for any and everything. My friend is also visiting but staying at another hotel however I was asked to pay $40 USD just to allow him to visit me at room. On the other hand checkin is at 3pm but room never ready until after 4pm and they will offer compensation for being late. this is not the first time but for sure will never book this hotel again

I went for a day pass and it was very good. The meal for the day pass was bbq but one of my friends is a vegetarian and the bartender got her fish instead which was really nice. The portion for the meals were very good. The water, fruit punch juice and soda is unlimited and you get a dessert which in this case was chocolate cake and my friends really liked it.

The hotel is okay, but the room are very old. Personal is polite but I don’t think is worth to be a 5 stars hotel. Bear in mind to stay on the Main Street because the neighborhood can be sketchy.

Loved our experience in the hotel Catalonia, most of all we enjoyed the premium Lounge where Jehovannina and Smaily are absolute star s and kindly took care of me and my wife every day. The breakfast staff is also amazing we really felt well taken care of.
