My stayed at Hodelpa Caribe Colonial was short and sweet. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the colonial zone across the street from La Republica Brewery and Nacho Libre (small Mexican restaurant selling the best loaded nachos in the area). The hotel has parking and a restaurant located in the first floor lobby. The restaurant is open from 7 am to 10 pm. I didn’t get to order dinner but on my last day I had breakfast (local food) and it was really good. My room was on the second floor ( royal room category) facing the street and it has a nice balcony where you can sit and relax while enjoying a glass of wine or a nice cold presidente (local beer). The room has a mini fridge stocked with water bottles, different types of drinks and liquor, it also has a tray with some snacks. Keep in mind that you have to pay for these things if you used them. But you do get a complimentary bottle of water a day. The staff is very nice, helpful and attentive.I felt safe at all times. I’ll definitely stay here again.

This hotel was amazing. It was very clean, the staff members were very helpful, the breakfast had a variety of options, and my friend and I felt very safe there. They had a nice balcony with a great sunset view. My friend and I arrived very early in the morning and for a fair, much cheaper price, they let us check into our room, even though it was nowhere near check in time. After a few nights our air conditioning stopped working. When we told the staff they came to fix it immediately. It worked for a few hours then turned off again. They needed maintenance to come do more work, but we were getting ready for bed. They didn’t know how long it would take so they paid for us to sleep at the hotel across the street! Even the nicest and most extravagant hotels can have things go wrong now and then, but the way they handled it was amazing. We didn’t need to pack anything up- just whatever we needed to sleep. When we came back to our room the next morning- it was fixed for good. Everyone who worked there and who we spoke to had a great experience there. I would definitely recommend this place. The rooms were small, but that was expected. The parking also did not fit many cars, but was functional for the amount of cars that were there.

All I can say is WOW. Everything about this hotel is amazing. Location, cleanliness, breakfast, safety, rooms and the staff. Top notch customer services, from check in to check out. Very affordable and yet it feels like you’re in a five star hotel the way staff treats you. Jose Luis, Gerardo and Brian were so great and helpful about everything you ask for at the front desk. Brenda and Katya we’re so attentive to your needs and making sure you have everything you need for breakfast. I am traveling with my husband and our six month old baby for the first time and was so worried about everything but the staff is so attentive, and they make sure they go EXTRA mile to get what you need. Definitely recommend this to anyone I know who is going to visit Santo Domingo and meet the beautiful people and locals!

The Good: Location is excellent! The hotel is in the colonial zone near a large park, great restaurants, and shopping! Breakfast buffet at the hotel is excellent!! The hotel staff on the 1st floor is very friendly! Housekeeping members were also very friendly and helpful! The Bad: Unfortunately, the toilet in my bathroom leaked during my entire 6-day stay so the bathroom floor was always covered in water. A member of the hotel's maintenance team did attempt to fix it, but he was unsuccessful. Be aware of the prices if you choose to consume from the mini-bar in the room! I realized after my trip that I was overcharged (charged nearly double) for the items that I consumed! Find the list that contains the prices of the items and keep track of your total so that this won't also happen to you.

Insect found every where in the room . I did complain at reception asking discount for the bad experiences they just ignored me. Is not a place where to stay and bring with you wife or family, it gives sensation of dirt.

This is a wonderful hotel in Santo Domingo, and we have been staying here for the past couple of years when traveling to SD. The staff is always so friendly, breakfast is delicious, and the gym is convenient and clean. Will definitely stay here in the future - thank you folks at Hotel Hodelpa!

The location is not bad. Away from the city but a tourist place. The rooms are very very small, the room service was very bad, I have to keep reminding them to clean the room. No water provided. The worst part is how they tried to over charge me with random things. I didn't eat anything from OVER PRICEY mini room bar, but they added random charges telling me I had chocolate and water from the mini fridge. Had a coffee one day, worth 90 and the waiter added a 200 tip by herself. Obviously I talked to out and they took the charges off but this was very sneaky and unethical. Not going to stay there and won't recommend anyone to stay there as well.

Great location, the rooms are nice but an accessible power outlet would have been nice.

Apart from complementary water on the first day, they charge for bottled water consumption. This was not clear from the information provided when I booked.

Decent enough hotel, super comfy beds and pillows, and the price was right. Breakfast included was excellent and delightful staff! But ... very few electrical outlets in the room and none by the bed, housekeeping did not refresh our drinking water nor respond to our in person request for more blankets and coffee. No fault of the hotel, but our street side facing room suffered from lots of noise at night ... but it is a Holiday weekend so maybe our experience wouldn't normally be repeated

Learned I prefer old boutique hotels from this stay..the room was good enough. Breakfast buffet staff service was excellent!! And the breakfast also excellent. But the front desk staff was inconsistent ... one large staff was regularly dismissive (on his personal phone as we were standing at the desk) and another so kind and fun. Housekeeping was mixed ... every day we had to ask for water to prepare our in-room coffee, had to ask 3 times for an additional blanket, and our toiletries were seldom replaced. The location is excellent BUT we got a room with a balcony so we could have cigars ... facing the traffic crowded street and loud bar. If we stay in the future, we'll ask for a quiet room in the back and use the beautiful rooftop terrace for cigars. We'll ask everyday for coffee water. By the way, apparently the hotel does not think they need to provide guests with drinking water in the room, and a large bottle of water is usd$4.00!. I find this shameful. Either install proper filtration so tap water is potable or provide bottled water for free.

The rooms need renovation but the staff is kind. The food was great. Thank you to the receptionist who helped us organize the transport to punta cana.

I've been staying at this hotel for work for several years. The staff is incredibly gracious, the food is good, and you can't beat the location. There's also a great bar literally across the street. Would definitely stay here again.

Excelent location specially if this is the first time you visit Santo Domingo. Walking distance to all attractions of the Colonial area. ..if you go further, be patience with traffic.... Rooms need some update but overall service and food is good. Good choice

I agree to the average rating. I really hope for that the breakfast will turn it around! ...... ...... ...... 3 years later: I just stood there again and can say that they indeed turned it around. Its a total different experience now. They redone the rooms to the better and the staff seems to be happy. So new rating from me From 3 to 4 🌟

Location is perfect! Great service, very attentive staff. Breakfast wasn't bad either but the staff was so helpful, attentive and caring that everything else faded. They went out of their way to help us with anything we needed. So thank you for a great stayed ❤️. We'll definitely go back.

There's an unique kind of good-vibe-positive atmosphere at the lobby and at the coffee shop & bar at the first floor. The personnel of the bar, the lobby, security and the Chef have exquisite education and customer service skills. It is not an expensive place. It's clean and constantly sanitized. A true oasis in the midst of the Zona Colonial de Santo Doningo.

RECOMMENDED, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Hodelpa Caribe Colonial is a great hotel. Absolutely 💯% 5 stars. - The staff is super friendly and accommodating. - The included breakfast is delicious and satisfying. - The place is super clean from the restaurant to the bedroom to the restrooms. I normally have dust allergies, but not even that was triggered and that's how clean this place was. Some other guests complained about the parking and that might be tourism sabotage or highly inexperienced travelers. I would tell them to go the the Sheraton Hotel in Old San Juan PR, not even parking outside the hotel and you have to pay $20 bucks to park, the place is dirty, breakfast not included and the staff is indifferent. Hodelpa at least has parking, breakfast included and super clean. Special thanks to the Manager Jose Mena, Mr. Montero front desk, Yoel at the restaurant, Carlos vallet/bellhop and the big boss Ms. Chase. I will definitely return.

I have to keep lifting the top of the toilet to flush. Fridge was not working had to call the front office and they sent up someone to fix it. Too much loud noise in the lobby late at nights
