👍 Interesting history of gold, silver, and money in the history of Dominican Republic up until today. I can't read much Spanish, but it was still enjoyable. ID taken and returned on leaving. It can be a little tricky to understand procedures when entering--even if you do know a little Spanish. People often mention coins, history,

Numismatic and Philatelic Museum was established by Resolution of the Monetary Board in 1978 and opened in 1985 it is located in the Central Bank, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This musem consists of three rooms: 1-Numismatics Hall, which houses the museum of coins, banknotes and medals. 2- Philatelic room, which contains the collection of dominican stamps from 1865 to 1999 (over 100 years) 3- Temporary Exhibition Hall where exhibits are made to stay for a short time. The Board Numismatics shows the evolution of money from barter to the creation of the currency itself, through the stage of the commodity-money until modern means of payment such as credit card.

(Translated by Google) It is a museum that exhibits and exposes all aspects related to the history of the emergence of the Dominican currency and its different minting. As well as orientation, books and monetary exposures of different values. Also featuring currencies from various countries. It also appreciates old coins. A place full of history. Its rooms range from prehistoric methods of subsistence and exchange to the first metal coins and then go through the history of banknotes and financial certificates until reaching the most current payment methods. It also includes the methods and manufacturing of said media. You can learn from the history of the country's first institutions. In the philately room... well, I have to make another visit because there are many things.

The museum has very good facilities and its collection presents very interesting numismatic pieces, especially from the Dominican Republic, although there are also coins from ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, it has information related to the history of coins from their origin and also explains the methods of manufacturing both banknotes and coins. I only have to tell you two negative things, the first is that photographs are not allowed and the second, which is more delicate, is that in several copies the labeling and technical information on the coin does not correspond to that coin, apparently they were ordered incorrectly when placing them. on display.

Great display of their currency from day 1. Also if you collect coins/banknotes you can exchange for new ones. Take a copy if ID with you as they sign you in as a visitor. It's also free. The security guard was not going to allow me access as they had a few schools attending, but I stood my ground.

Very nice museum. Admission free. Clearly organized, the only thing missing is the care of the display cases. Regarding lighting and cleaning [ Showcase - Order]. But should be viewed as Numismatica.
