My 1st review and of course experience was disappointing on account of flavors of a staple of Dominican foods and I must add that everywhere I go I typically start off with staple foods. In this case I ordered "Mangu" (mashed or pureed green plantains) which come accompanied with Salami, eggs and semi melted cheese. The presentation was beautiful and the service was fast but much to my surprise the food was cold. The "mangu" was semi dry and I almost didn't recognize the cheese as it came in "tiny-cute breaded" triangular pieces. Mangu is such a simple and delicious dish that it was heart breaking. I was the only guest since I came after they had just opened in the am 😥. Additionally, I was surprised as to the small menu of dishes they had. The location, layout and overall look of the place is great and I may be willing to try it again in hopes of finding that the great appeal of the physical location is in tune with the flavors of so many great local and simple restaurants of the area or better yet, mama's cooking. PS: Santo Domingo is home!

Excellent service and atmosphere. The food more or less. Although it is basically Creole food, one expects it to be much better than what is customary at home, but it is not like that. By the way, for some time now there are people who, when they make yuca buns or arepitas, add sugar; That does NOT have sugar, wow. On the other hand, in fried foods or restaurants that offer green fried foods, it is already a bad standard to make them in "one step"; gentlemen, green fried foods take two steps to be good. It makes no sense for a restaurant to make fried foods in just one By the way, that can be left to a street fry, but a restaurant must do things better. Another detail about the place is that it is NOT cheap, considering the type and quality of the food the prices are a little high. I gave it 4 stars for the good service and encouragement of its staff, A+. The place is pleasant in a general sense.

Quiet and comfortable place, varied menu and good value for money

I would give it five start if not for the fact that the tostones (fried plantains) were soggy and that is a no no, plus the flan was runny on the inside. The goat was well seasoned, the rice well cooked, and the food presentation was excellent.

New management, thanks God! The new management has turn El Higuero into a wonderful place. No longer will you suffer the lack of service that had been plaguing the restaurant BEFORE THE NEW MANAGEMENT took control of the restaurant. Now, service, drinks 🍸 and, food is great!

This place is dirty. We came here and ordered just water.. thank god because the glass had lipstick on it. Saw the food on other tables... it seemed dry and service is just poor. The chairs are dirty and ripped off and menu has food marks on it.

Beautiful place, staff very friendly, worth the money. I had fried fish of Boca Chica, amazing presentation!! No bones!!!!! Over a bed of yuca mash, 5 stars, flavor 5 stars, with fried plantains, and yaniqueque waooo, really I was impressed! Congrats to the cheff and the owner. I also had catibias, I would not recomend because too little and empty inside (no worth the money), my sister had chivo and that was great too.

Good food, prices a little expensive, and you have to wait a long time for the food to be served

The food was probably the worse I’ve had in a minute. I had the penne with Chicken, and I couldn’t even eat that, my wife had some ribs, and that had no flavor, and was completely dry. Just go somewhere else if you wanna have some good food. This place ain’t it.

We went there for lunch. I had my camera (a 7 year old APS-C camera) with me. We wanted to sit outside. Before being seated I spotted a huge lizard and I made a picture. Immediately we were informed by the waitress that it was not allowed to take pictures with a “professional” camera and that she had to charge us EXTRA for the picture. There was no sign that pictures were not allowed, or at least I didn’t see any. And besides, mine is NOT a professional camera. Because of this very unfriendly welcome, we decided to leave immediately and have lunch somewhere else.

One of my favorite restaurants in Santo domingo. They have beautiful views of lake and very good environments for eating.

Be prepared to be on a waitlist. This place is always busy. It's next to a park with a lake. Nice view. Drinks are great. Food is ok. I tried their pastel en hoja and it is huge. Their seafood looked amazing. Due to the long wait I'm not sure I'll go back .

I'll give it a 4 out of 5. Every single thing I ordered was on point, delicious and blablabla. But many of my friends were complaining cause what they ordered was either to spicy, cold or salty. I ordered Picalonga and Pechuga a la Gordon Blue. (It has another name in their menu but I can't remember it now) Also, quite cheap for the kind of place it is. I'll leave a picture of the Pechuga a la Gordon Blue I ordered. I really like it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food of this restaurant. I am dominican, living abroad and I was just used to visit the other famous typical restaurant chain when I was craving dominican food. Invited by my family here, I was delighted by several things: Parking: plenty, no hassles, accessible Decoration: modern, keeping the native sense Food: on the higher end of the scale and still native and delicious Service: ....superior Prices: according to the aforementioned and still not hurting your pockets. Landscape: beautiful! Outside the restaurant there is a nice park seeing a lake. If you happen to be in Santo Domingo as a Tourist or you are a local, give them a try, you won't regret it.

this restaurant was nice I just wasn't sure if a couple of things, it looks like is fancy but casual, I don't know if that side of the building is less upscale because I notice another dinning area, but it was closed.tge menu was kind of funny with the names of the food items, it has another outside that was very nice with the bamboo trees. the staff was really friendly and helpful, good was very tasty. for sure I will have lunch there again.

Perfect place for a date, great sights to the artificial lake and the vegetation of the Mirador Sur, it has a fresh temperature, excellent service, friendly waitresses and security employee, it has easy access, free parking area, super tasty food and the price is not for an every day meal but it could be good for a date, family or business reunion or any other special occasion.
