The museum was closed during my visit, but I was still able to see the outside of the well-preserved building. Located across the street from Parque Billini, this was the home of Dominican author Francisco Tostado de la Peña.

Nice experience, I love these views of how people used to live! A "must" for a city tour, certainly for us women :)

It's like you went back in time, imagining how they used to live in that period. It is amazing how you can learn so much about history in a matter of second. The staff was very informative. If you are passionate about history, this museum is a must to visit whenever in Santo Domingo or Dominican Republic; just book any tour including this site; we went there from Punta Cana.

Interesting furnished colonial home. The ticket yo enter is like only $2 dollars and definitely worth a visit.

2023: The museum is now more focused on showcasing how a family in a good financial situation lived, their meal times, bedrooms, seating rooms and overall home details. Our guide shared interesting facts throughout the tour and answered our questions. A lovely family experience as well. Three years ago: I liked how simple yet how much it tells about life in that time, I got more than expected. Lovely patio to spend time and take cute pics.

A nice museum but much smaller than others in the area and only a bit of information about the furniture and nothing else. No stories about the families that lived there or why they were affluent.

Just another old fancy house. Nothing much to see.

This two-story building was one of the first family homes in the city that was considered one of the most luxurious in the entire colony. It is named after its first owner Francisco Tostado de la Peña, the clerk of the governor Nicolás de Ovando and the owner of vast sugar fields. Today, this colonial mansion functions as the Museum of the Dominican Family of the XIX Century.
