It is located at Calle Arzobispo Meriño 266 in the Colonial Zone. The exact date of construction is not known, but it is believed to date from the first half of the 16th century (around 1540). The Spanish crown called the building where the coins were minted Casa de la Moneda. In our country there was this institution, where silver coins were minted with an S on one side that denoted their origin. They could be used in any territory belonging to Spain. The Medallion House is not actually the place where the coins were made, the real Mint was located in front of this house, but it was demolished.

Outstanding maintenance, restoration and preservation achieved by Sociedad Numismática Dominicana (an ONG) with this building, who shares it's management. Kudos to this Society. They hold well-informed and facts-based cultural seminars worth assisting to. And also have a great exhibition of historical items. And they have resorted to the betterment of this colonial building, and have taken it to the highest standards of architectural embellishment. By facts, Casa de la Moneda is one of the top well-preserved colonial buildings from the old capital of Santo Domingo de Guzmån, which was founded in 1496. Serious research backs this building's existence to 1509, and then later modified and utilized to hold the Royal Spanish Mint in 1541. It's worth visiting. Amazing.

A place where the historical beauty of the colonial era and the modernity of its comfortable facilities combine, I congratulate the Dominican Numismatic Society for the great and careful renovation work on the infrastructure and interiors of this monument.
