Great Museum with Dominican moderen art. We visited the exposition of the great Tuovar and also saw other painters. Clara Ledesma was clearly a discovering. What a wonderful painter!

Really enjoyed the 101 emotions piece showing all of the Dominican artists (musicians, movie stars, etc) The second floor art was.. interesting. Overall 5 stars, only costs 100 pesos to enter. Also, there's a cafeteria about 3 minutes away that has great food. Great date idea

I love coming here to hang out. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are equally creative, spacious and inspiring. I’ve never paid to go inside 👀 so assuming it’s free? If so that’s really nice and appreciated! So much to see. I love the interactive spaces. The flow. The peacefulness.

This place is under renovation (like the other museums nearby) No indications about scheduled re-opening. But by the looks of it, it won’t open any time soon.

Worth to see museam, it has four floors, staff was very friendly and they usually have exhibits. Most of the time is free to visit, however, some events may have a cover fee (5 USD or such in Dominican pesos). Museam is very accesible through public transportation such as metro, bus or "carritos". There is hot a lot of parking spots, so the earliest the better. Avoid to leave your car with unlocked doors or open windows. If your are making a tourist route is close to National Palace (where the president works).

I walked in with two 13-year-old girls and the lady charged me three adult tickets for 100 pesos and then asked if it was the same price for children and adults, she told me no, children pay 25 pesos, and I told her but the The girls are 13 years old and he told me, oh, it'll be next time and he didn't give me my money back or change the tickets without leaving his area….

Much bigger and thorough than I expected. I thought I was going to spend 30 minutes but I ended up staying for two hours. The best exhibits were on the top floor. And even better is that there is no fee to enter.

Most high profile art exhibitions in the country are displayed here. There is no permanent collection, therefore your experience will vary depending on when you visit. They host many activities and guided tours-- I recommend following their socials for updates. They have discounts for students and teachers, but you must provide a valid student ID. I dont know if they accept international student IDs. The building is not fully wheelchair accesible, although there are elevators for each floor. I do not think they have any special resources for blind or deaf people, but that may vary depending on the current exhibition and who is organizing it. It would do well to contact the museum for more information. I personally really like the architecture and design of the museum, both inside and out. It reflects the brutalist style popular with a lot of government buildings, especially in the 60s and 70s, but it may not be to everyone's taste. Their bathrooms are clean enough, and they do have wheelchair accesible stalls. You cannot go inside with anything larger than a small purse--you must leave it at the front desk.

Want to give it 5 stars, but they only had 2 floors open when we went, so not a lot of content. The art that was there was great though.

Building is in good condition. There are few painting, I wanted to visit the history museums instead but they are both closed.

  • 4/5 Steve S. 1 year ago on Google
A very impressive, if somewhat brutalist concrete structure that nevertheless provides a huge and practical exhibition area to display art of any type. I was there for an exposition of decidedly modern paintings, not at all to my taste and failing miserably my personal test, which is that you need be able to tell which way up the painting should be hung without having to resort to the artists signature! Anyway, returning to the venue, it is well worth a visit with ample parking on site.

I’m so disappointed! 3 floors filled with only repetitive works of 3 artists. It was very different from the variety they used to have in the past. I want my 100 pesos back!

I visited from the US and loved this museum. There aren't a ton of exhibits, but they are done very well. It's also a nice walk from the Colonial Zone if you take the street just west of Independence Park. It felt like a very safe walk.

(Translated by Google) The Museum of Modern Art, here you can find sculpture, drawing, painting, among others. There are a precious collections available for the public to know about Dominican and foreign works. In the year that I visited it, I loved an exhibition of a metal structure that looked like a prison where we can release our fears through a super interesting and relaxing balloon at the same time, there was a huge yo-yo and some jacks that reminds us of our childhood and so on every one of the pieces on display can be seen.

The installations would be great if at least they got air conditioner, but they didn't. In reality I felt like in hell with that heat and that annoying music in the background repeating over and over, like endless. Just a few of those art objects were cool, others made me sick. I was impressed by all the visitors (no one). For the money I paid for entrance I deserve a better experience... a RD$100.00 worth more than what I got in that museum....

This museum conserves some of the most interesting art pieces of the Dominican art. It also keeps a really lively schedule on activities so you would find something new every time you visit. There are also great guides who can give you some details of the art movement that is being exhibited.

Just in the middle of the big city Santo Domingo there is a accumulation of cultural building, which are important for the national identity of Dominican Republic: the national theatre, the museum of modern art, the nature-historical museum and the museum of Dominican men (and women?). The last one and the MAM are under construction with never ending deadline, so currently are no open for visitors (May 2019). All around of these location there is a beautiful park with many interesting and great variety of plants and trees, just all they have on these paradise island, but all the places have the same problem with wild littering of the locals, but this is a generally problem, you can see anywhere. Other interesting building nearby is the national library. The Architecture of all buildings is from very classical modern style of mid 70ies or 80ies of the last century and it has the morbid charming of buildings with low maintenance. The area is good accessible by the local Metro with an own station. Good place for get relax in the busy and chaotic big city Santo Domingo. You will love it!

Some great pieces of art! but unfortunately the building is a bit old and not so well maintained. Funding for better frames and lighting would be great. Anyways I enjoyed my visit and saw interesting pieces. Almost 0 people were in there when I went on sunday, so it's a great place for spending a quiet afternoon.

Finally, the State decided to rescue from abandonment this important and unique space without equal in the country. Its structure is inscribed within the monumental sculptures that are to be appreciated from the outside and enjoyed inside. This "Artes-Arquitectónico" work was designed by the Dominican architect José Miniño, who also directed its construction; It was inaugurated on December 15, 1976 as Modern Art Gallery, today Museum of Modern Art (MAM). In this space recreational leisure is practiced in the aspect of Aesthetic Leisure, very sought after by local and international tourists, who visit their rooms and seek pleasure while they grow up learning in their moments of free time, (time of culture, leisure time) ). Well, its rooms housed the best visual works that have been treasured for four decades and the best visual displays that are scheduled throughout the year. But, today its aesthetic beauty and its spaces are closed for improvement. At the moment we do not know when the arrangements will be concluded. Therefore we can only put one star until you finish the work and reestablish your services. What we hope will not spread! (Original) NO, EL MAM DE SANTO DOMINGO DE REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA NO HA MUERTO. Pero, hoy su belleza estética y sus espacios están cerrados para su mejora. Por el momento no sabemos cuando se concluirán los arreglos.
