Absolutely delicious. Beautiful back patio with a great vibe. Fantastic service. Got the Mero al coco, yuca frita and vegetales al grill, everything was fantastic.

Stumbled upon this gem looking up brunch spots. The place is pretty big with good aesthetics, they have both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is on point, always making sure you are good. Everything I tasted was delicious and cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend giving a try whenever in Zona colonial.

There was a wedding going on that took much of the attention. After about 20 minutes after ordering I attempted to cancel my order as I noticed noone who arrived before me had received thier food orders but was told it would be ready in 2 minutes. It arrived in 2 minutes though it wasn't ready. Fish was a bit undercooked and the beans were an insult to dominican cuisine with thier lack of flavor. I was hungry and the wedding put me in a good mood so I ate a portion of it. Perhaps the food is usually better, the cocktails certainly looked great and the service was good. However with many other quality options in the colonial zone, one misstep and a resteraunt quickly falls to the wayside.

I came here because of the food reviews and also the garden. It’s a nice place to dine in. They have plenty of fans so I didn’t feel hot at noon. The Empanadas de Ropa Vieja is very good. I am not a fan of the dipping sauce but the empanadas are good by themselves. I don’t usually like fried food and this one is not greasy at all. The stuffing inside is flavorful. I also ordered Red Snapper grilled. It’s usually fried but they can also do it grilled. It’s pretty good too. I chose the grilled vegetables and they are probably the best I’ve had. I especially like the pesto sauce (maybe it’s pesto or something like that). I didn’t know the sauce would go so well with the grilled vegetables. The service is good. I was annoyed a bit in the beginning by the waiter earlier because when I asked him what to recommend, he just said everything is good. It didn’t help at all. It’s good that the owner, I believe, came to help me decide.

I’d been meaning to go to this restaurant for ages and I’m so glad I finally did. The service was excellent, the ambience was stylish and comfortable and the owner very friendly. I had the eggs Benedict which I did really enjoy. Will definitely return and highly recommended.

El Buho is absolutely the best place to eat in the Zona Colonial and even in the Dominican Republic. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo con Pollo and it was the best I have ever had in my life. The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing dinner, it is secluded, cozy and has a perfect combination of Dominican and Italian culture. The service is incredible with waiters/waitresses always attentive to you needs. As stated already, the food is fantastic and it is quickly prepared. Everything is so well priced and you get exactly what you pay for. This is the restaurant of my dreams and I didn’t even know that until I found it. Come and enjoy this perfect place, you will not regret it.

A must if you're in the area. Great food and friendly service with both indoor seating and patio/garden seating. We were a group of 8 looking for a late-afternoon meal and a few drinks on a warm June day. Staff was welcoming and the food was fresh and delicious. The owner Robert visited our table to introduce himself and see if we had any special requests or needs. Great food and great people, and we'll definitely be back the next time we're in Santo Domingo.

Charming restaurant with interior patio and vertical garden that brings a nice touch of green and freshness. Great and friendly service. The food was good and the price was reasonable for the location. I would definitely recommend this place for a lunch or dinner.

Audrey a local referred me here and I can say the food is great, service is top notch, the atmosphere and the way the resturant is decorated makes the environment feel good and the design/setup is truly remarkable. Compare to other parts of the area the food is fairly priced. The chicken fettuccine alfredo was amazing !! I come to the Dominican Republic every other month so I will definetly come back to this resturant.

Delicioso! I had a great dinner with a friend at the restaurant and the waiters were amazing. We had a good bit of fun. They also spoke quite good English which we learnt to appreciate during our stay here. The food was excellent 😋

This is hands down the best restaurant in the Colonial Zone if you are looking for classic international dishes. Everything I’ve tasted here is delicious and their smoothies taste so good! Also, they use filtered purified water so you can eat/drink anything here and know that you will stay healthy. ;) The interior courtyard area is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you are getting. I’ve spent 3 weeks in the Colonial Zone, have been to so many restaurants that are far more expensive and they don’t compare to this place. If you are visiting for a few days you need to come here! The owner is American and very nice.

This place has a wonderful atmosphere and outstanding food. The owner is from NYC and his wife is Dominican and they've created an exceptional restaurant. We had salmon crepes shrimp crepes and seafood casserole. Truly outstanding. Highly recommend it. It's in the heart of the colonial zone.

Great place to eat with extremely great service (if you get served by Elisa or Daniel, you're lucky!). Recently, my girlfriend and I have repeatedly been disappointed going out (on vacation in the Dom. Rep. as well as at home) but very highly recommend going to El Buho for great service and quality food!

Fabulous experience. This bistro is a must-try. Everything served was excellent: I started with a mint lemonade that was tangy, tart, and sweet. For an appetizer, we ordered an amazing ceviche that was flavorful and tangy but not fishy at all. The rest of the meal was served promptly and with same high caliber preparation and flavor, as the grouper-wrapped shrimp was one of the most unique dishes I’ve ever had: combining juicy and flaky grouper with well-seasoned shrimp in a delicious batter, served in a lime and passion fruit sauce, it will leave a taste I’ll never forget. Besides the amazing food, the historic ambience was relaxing and inviting. But even more inviting we’re owners Robert and Rose Foti who are as warm and welcoming as the dishes they serve. Ask for server José Manuel and you’ll feel like your at a 5 star restaurant. And for me, it absolutely was.

Very inviting atmosphere, great location, yummy food and cheerful and helpful staff. The best food we had in Santo Domingo. Highly recommended and we will visit again. We ordered the Crema De Auyama, Empanadas Veganas, Nachos and Penne al Pesto with Grilled Chicken. The squash bisque was out of the world, mouth watering tasty. The empanadas were perfect - crispy on the outside filled with tasty medley of vegetables and cheese inside. Nachos were delicious and the penne pasta was perfect al dente with tasty flavors of basil pesto. The grilled chicken could have been a little softer - it was slightly overcooked and was a bit chewy. Overall we had a great experience.

All of their dishes were done right and seemed hand picked to compliment each other on the menu. Very good choices and service was good keeping in mind that it is Caribbean time so be prepared for a 2hr dinner. The place has a really nice terrace but we chose to sit inside to cool off the long walk otherwise definitely ask for the terrace.

This space is so gorgeous, and the service was wonderful. Our server Barenase was sweet and attentive, and since we were staying down the street and came back the next day she not only remembered my name but also remembered exactly what I ordered! I am a New Yorker and service is very important to me, this place lift up to New York standards with the service and presentation of the food! Will definitely come back!

A Great “Walk By” find! Happened by El Búho while exploring the CZ. Food was great as was the hospitality. The owner Robert, an expat from the US has a wonderful restaurant that’s worth stopping at! El Búho has a nice air conditioned area as well as a charming outdoor courtyard with large fans and shaded areas. We had the Ropa Viaja empanadas, the Ceviche and a wonderful Snook entre.

This place is AMAZING! I’m not one to leave reviews typically but the food was delicious, and it was some of the best service on our whole trip. 5 stars all around. My husband and I have to be strict to not eat gluten or shellfish, they were super super accommodating to help pick something gluten free. Thank you so much for the great meal and a lovely evening!

Me, my wife, and two friends were looking for a place for bunch. We were thinking of a particular restaurant built into a cave that looked cool for social media but a deeper dive into reviews told the story of a place built for Instagram, not for tastebuds. I looked around and saw El Buho Eatery. 5 star reviews all around, so we came and I have to say that we’re adding list of reviewers with amazing things to say. Quick though. The food was fantastic with my friend’s paella stealing the show. The fruit juices were equally delicious, especially the mango juice and my mint lemonade. The service was amazing with the owner coming out to recommend dishes based on what we like—this was especially helpful since the only not great thing I have to say is that the menu was a little confusing. The atmosphere was, again, amazing. Even though it was a steamy hot day, we sat in the interior backyard patio. The set up was beautiful. It was also surprisingly cool with fans and shade ensuring a perfectly comfortable experience. Overall, this is on the top of my list of restaurants in DR that I’ve been to. Highly recommend.

Stopped in today to say hello to Robert the owner. I was in Santo Domingo in 2021 a few times, and ate there every night for dinner. Him and his wife were very nice to us whenever we went there. The food is absolutely delicious and the mojitos are superb! And it’s beautiful inside! Stop in, you wont be disappointed. Tasha from Philly.

This was my third time going to El Búho Café for dinner. I am always satisfied with the service and the quality of the food. The owner, Robert, goes beyond the call of duty to make sure that every patron is satisfied and happy with the time spent at El Búho café. It is nice to find excellent customer service in a restaurant here in Santo Domingo. I will definitely return and bring all my friends there. I highly recommend it. They have happy hour from 5 to 7 PM that starts after your first drink order.

This was by far the best place I've had a steak in a long time! The wait staff was attentive. The owner greeted us, which was extremely helpful, and helped us with the menu as we weren't fluent in Spanish. The food was excellent!!! Can't recommend enough when visiting Santo Domingo!

This adorable restaurant is just off of the main walkway- El Conde. We made a reservation ahead of time and they had a table waiting for us. We eat earlier than everyone else is Santo Domingo so the place was pretty quiet while we were there. The service was fantastic. Friendly, informative and fast. They have regular handheld menus in Spanish or you can scan a QR code for an English menu. We tried the goat cheese salad, the mero rollatini and the grilled octopus. Everything was delicious but the octopus was the best!

Liked the food, but there was something missing to be a 5 star review Service was also good but expected at least someone to speak english. I know this is Dominican Republic which is spanish speaking country but still it is a tourism oriented country. But still it was a very lovely restaurant with amazing vibe, beautiful interior and good food. It is an expensive place! Be aware

Wow, if i were to only review the food, then 6 out of 5. I wasn't expecting much, prices were reasonable, and i didn't really understand what i was ordering. It was like a fried fish cake with shrimp in the mix. That was some of the best tasting fish i have eaten. Delicious. Service was mediocre. Another case where the guy communicated with body language and tone that he didn't want to be serving... Not a huge deal, cuz the food is so good.

This place not only has a beautiful open patio but the food is amazing. We had the deer dorado with cream sauce and civeche. The fish is fresh and the prices are reasonable for how nice of a place it is. Good lunch and would make a good date night spot. Highly recommend! Thank you guys!

  • 5/5 Reggye R. 1 year ago on Google
The place is gorgeous, the bar looks out of a movie and the service was great. The food that I ordered was not bad, the appetizers were good for their price but the main dish was on the small end compared the price paid for it. Besides that it was a good experience.

El Buho is a hidden gem in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo and a must-visit for anyone looking for a nice Spanish patio dining experience. The service was excellent, with staff who were incredibly friendly and attentive to our every need. The ambience was top-notch and incredibly comfortable, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The food was amazing. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely dinner, Café El Buho has something for everyone. I highly recommend this gem and will definitely be returning for more drinks and great service.

The place inside is amazing, great atmosphere and decor. The staff are also super friendly and helpful, on top of it all the food and drinks we had were really really good. One of the best cafes we visited in Santo Domingo.

We loved our experience here so much we went back a second night! Honestly we’d probably go again but our trip was over. We got seafood and every dish was perfect, but my favorite was the Mero Al Coco! Definitely a must try while in the colonial zone!

Lovely experience at this wonderful restaurant in old town. The weather was too warm for us to enjoy our food outdoors but we very able to enjoy the tastefully decorated patio from inside the restaurant thanks to large glass wall. Everything on the menu looked delicious so the owner kindly helped us decide. Our stay was too short for a second visit but will definitely be back to try the other dishes if we are back in town.

My family and I had the pleasure of dining here during our summer vacation. The food is excellent! We are a family where most of us prefer vegetarian and especially the pasta with pumpkin was just superb! A great dining experience :) The prices are even surprisingly low. The place has a great atmosphere and the owner inspired us to more great places to visit in DR.
