I definitely recommend coming here to immerse yourself in Balinese traditional cultural foods if you are holidaying here. There is a variety of different dishes which will surprise you- the textures, taste, freshness and style of food is amazing and interesting. It all taste really good; very well flavoured and fresh. We got the soup (not sure which one because I don't know what anything is called lol) which was so good that it's a must try. Also my first time tasting duck and it was really good. The young coconut wasn't really my thing but you can drink it like water it's very refreshing. Also the view is great and definitely fits the vibe of the food. There are rice fields just beside you, and you can use a nearby swing to overlook these fields. Honestly a once in a lifetime experience!! You'll only really have a problem here if you can't eat Balinese food.

I had lunch there with my wife and it was great. The food was great, the waitress was patient and attentive. The place is really nice with the view on the rice field and the decoration is amazing. There are a lot of decorative fish and cool spots for pictures (Entrance and garden behind the WC).

The restaurant's location was beautiful, overlooking a serene lake and surrounded by lush greenery, making it the perfect place to enjoy a meal with friends and family. What made the experience even more unique was the fact that we ate in a hut at the top of the lake with fishes below, which was such a cool and unique experience. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. I particularly enjoyed the prawn dishes. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Price wise was slightly higher than average. The traditional Balinese architecture of the restaurant added to the overall experience and made it a memorable dining experience. The whole place was clean and had a relaxing atmosphere that made us feel at home. This is an excellent place to enjoy delicious food, take in the beautiful surroundings, and have a unique dining experience that you won't find anywhere else.

If you want to try local authentic food, this place has everything proper. From the local food, to the rice fields, to the sunsets and the ambience. Such a pleasant experience.

Five-star for the view and the ambiance, four-star for the food and drinks. Here's why. It's good to be back since our last visit in 2015. So much has improved especially the staff's treatment towards us Indonesian. They used to be unfriendly. But today they're super accommodating. Keep it up! We arrived before sunset and they asked us whether we wanted to choose semi-indoor seat or outdoor gazebo. I choosed the gazebo and the wait staff escorted us immediately to available gazebo and even offer us gazebo with rice fields and sunset view which was AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL. The menu is already available on the table, standard. They asked us to hit the bamboo when we're ready to order. Quite a few menu items are not available, but that's not a problem. We ordered rice for two adults, Sautéed Shrimp with Salted Egg Sauce, Sautéed Shrimp with Singaporean Sauce, Crispy Calamari as well as Pumpkin Leaves stir-fry. As of drinks, my husband ordered whole young coconut and I had Iced Tea. Our order arrived at a timely manner. Here are my reviews for the foods & drinks 1. The rice was fluffy. Standard rice you can find in most restaurants in Bali. However, the "bakul" that was used to serve the rice needs cleaning! 2. Both shrimp dishes tasted fresh and the shrimps are pretty big in size, BUT--there is a pretty big but--can they REMOVE the shrimp's antenna???? It disturbed the pleasant eating experience. They can also consider to peel the shell (many people love peeled shrimp) and remove the head. Such a shame for such nice dish 3. Crispy Calamari tasted okay. Nothing special and interesting 4. Pumpkin Leaves Stir-fry is also okay. Slightly overcooked but underseasoned. What an unfortunate combination. 5. The whole coconut wasn't served with ice cubes :')) Overall, a truly pleasant experience. Might consider to come back if they decide to do my advice on the second point above. Just a feedback from a seafood lover. Cheers!

A restaurant with special view and scene. We wanted enjoy the villa more, so we took our meals to-go. There’s a lake in the center of this place, lots of seats under straw roof aside the lake. Some tourists seemed enjoying sitting around lake. A lot of buildings are made of baboon. The meal tastes good! But the soup… a bit sour, a bit mung bean taste…. We didn’t dare finish it.. besides of it, it’s 👍

Nice food but service staff sucks. After serving our food hardly anyone was around to assist should we need any assistant. Environment was nice too but food rather dry, well maybe that is how the food is eaten there. I onlz enjoyed the prawn.

Not really recommend this place as the best, the taste just so so. However, the wholesome bamboo decoration is good.

Highly recommend to visit this restaurant if you are in ubud, Atmosphere is gorgeous the prices are affordable where you can see local and tourist as well. However, dishes are kind of small and not a woow taste. I would come again at sunset time

Come here, come here, come here!!! Absolutely amazing atmosphere! Eat your dinner dangling your feet over a giant pond with fish swimming around and gaze over the rice fields!!!! I just found this place by sheer luck and decided to go at the perfect timing of sunset! Other than quadbike riding, this was my highlight of bali, I've been telling everyone of this place! I'd give 100 stars if I could! Food of course was great and cheap! We got like 5 plates and 3 drinks for 400,000 rp

Very nice venue. Loved the grilled zucchini and the fried chicken noodles. My friend took the crispy duck with mango and he loved it! I also enjoyed my fruit cocktail (dragon fruit)

Great place for having dinner with nice concept and view. Early reservation is needed for the floating gazebo. The bakwan jagung is the one you must try. Nasi goreng was good. A bit disappointed for the desert (Pisang cheese). Other than that it just average.

Amazing settings with fabulous food. The egg friend rice wasn't as good as some other restaurants. The prawns and the satay were amazing. I will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful place and friendly staff. I didn’t really enjoy the food. Almost everything is fried with Lo’s of oily sauces on top. Would like to have steamed fish, food cooked in banana leaf with spices, etc. Worth a visit though.

My dining experience at "Bale Udang Mang Engking Ubud" was a fascinating mix of cultural immersion and culinary delight. The place emanates authenticity, with its traditionally-styled furniture and the unique experience of dining on a platform situated right over a tranquil lake. The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the sweet and spicy shrimp cooked with honey. It was, without a doubt, the best shrimp I've had in Bali, and would be my go-to dish if I return. The flavor profile was exceptional, hitting that sweet spot between savory, sweet, and spicy. The fried calamari was decent, not outstanding, but still above average. It served well as a side dish to complement the remarkable shrimp. However, dining over a lake does come with its own set of challenges - namely, mosquitoes. The mosquito population here is significant, and I would strongly advise bringing mosquito repellent spray to ensure a more comfortable dining experience. Despite the insect invaders, "Bale Udang Mang Engking Ubud" offers an unforgettable dining experience due to its authentic setting and exceptional dishes. Remember to come prepared, and you'll be in for a memorable feast.

skip this place. food is mediocre at best. portion for the stirfried brinjal is small. prawn soup was ok but flavour can be more intense like how balinese soup is done. with a tame taste and 5 small prawns for 125k??? we asked for our fried ice cream to be served at the end but it came with the mains, and when they returned it to us at the end of the meal, the ice cream was all melted. IDR 600k+ for two pax. sure the ambience is good, minus the flies and mosquitoes, but at this price you can find other places for your seafood craving! (sidenote: i think this place is NOT for asian tastebuds. real asians know their food)

Had a delicious meal and lovely experience here for lunch. The food is very tasty and well priced, and the ambiance on the water is very relaxing.

Food is good but a bit salty and pricey. There are lots of mosquitoes so bring bug spray. I recommend the mango sambal, ayam kintamani, and grilled prawns.

👍 Ordinary food in a spectacular location, in the middle of rice paddy. The crispy duck is really crispy, a bit too dry. The sate lilit is delicious. The gurami goreng bit bland / tasteless. Nor the sauce / sambal nor the fish have any taste. It also would be better if they have soup in their menu to...
