I loved this museum! Even though the collection is not very vast, the pieces displayed are of immense value. Perhaps the most innovative element of the exhibit is the open floor plan, with works arranged in chronological order and information sheets on the back. It really makes you feel more deeply connected with the works.

We entered the museum for free for some reason i dont know, but i loved it. Anyway, the building is very good for being a contemporary art museum. The second floor belongs to classics, but other floors are spared to temporary things. Love them all. Thank you

Great collection and interesting presentation. I got a tour by Andrea on Airbnb and I felt like I understood much more than I would've. The building also has spectacular architecture. And the museum showcases a diversity of artists and techniques/methods.

Beautiful exhibits and one of the most interesting presentations of a gallery I have seen. The art is mounted on glass so you can see the back of the canvas. You also have to walk around the work to read about the artist and the paintings origin which was very interesting and made you do a few loops. Great innovative art space.

Every Tuesday Free admission by appointment on the website, metro Trianon Masp. The exhibitions are constantly changing by artists, everything organized and air conditioned and great artists with great works. The place is beautiful, modern, very well planned in all aspects. It currently has world famous works on site. I went without knowing what I would find and I was definitely surprised. I will be back, without a doubt. Care in relation to the pandemic is still in place, fully and efficiently. I highly recommend it!

MASP is such a cool place. Generations of Paulistas and paulistanos frequented this place at some point. Lots of place to sit bellow it's arches A nice view from Sao Paulo city center can be seen from the MASP "gap" Lots of homeless people and Hippies also hang around the museum but just be aware of this and be mindful of your belongings that you should be fine. Nice place to visit if you are around Paulista Avenue and you can also go to Rua Augusta, Park Trianon MASP, Sesc, Casa das Rosas,Japan House and conjunto Nacional are all walking distance from the Museum. The Paulista Avenue have a bike line that is cool to bike at and also very good for skating/longboarding. Enjoy the chaos!

The building is really starting to show its age, and getting in was a bit confusing. Luckily I found someone that worked there and was able to help me purchase my ticket. Tickets must be purchased before hand, as they do not sell at the door. Web site does not load in English and is a bit of a pain to navigate without help.

Possibly the best art gallery in Latin America, they have a revolving display of major European and Brazilian artists as well as lots of indigenous art from pre-Colombian times and from today. A must-see gallery if in São Paolo.

This is a worldwide famous museum not just for its collection but for its architecture and historical relevance , and it’s totally worthy of it all. The architecture captures the eyes because it’s the biggest concret box suspended in the world with an enormous empty space beneath it , with a back space that it’s part of its art and gives you an amazing view of the 9 de julho avenue, just in the heart of São Paulo . The entrance is at Avenida Paulista other main attraction of the city. The ticket box is pretty organized, there was no lines. The museum counts on its fixed collection with artists that goes from classic to contemporary arts, both international and Brazilian artists, like Portinari. Some word wide famous pieces can be found there. But in the other floors they have the temporary exhibition, like the one focuses on the native people not only of Brazil but going far as New Zealand. It’s a fun and quick museum to visit , not tiring and boring at all.

The São Paulo museum of art (Portuguese: Museu de Arte de São Paulo, or MASP) is an art museum located on Paulista Avenue in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It is well known for its headquarters, a 1968 concrete and glass structure designed by Lina Bo Bardi, whose main body is supported by two lateral beams over a 74 metres (243 ft) freestanding space, considered a landmark of the city and a main symbol of modern Brazilian architecture.

Located right in the center of buzzing Paulista Avenue is located a giant rectangular structure hoisted on massive red beams. It's impossible to miss. Inside are two floors of art displays but the better work is on the top floor. Most painting and pictures are displayed within a glass case with the description behind (literally) the picture. You wouldn't need more than an hour to go through the entire collection. Well worth your time and money!

(Translated by Google) MASP is a place to be always rediscovered! The tip is that every Tuesday the entrance is free (booking through the website) and opens in the morning, starting at 10, on the first Wednesday of each month it is also free but follows the timetable of the rest of the days, from 13. The fixed collection is modified from time to time, but it is possible to check works by Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Tarsila do Amaral, among other great names in art, a must. Currently, the Degas exhibition deserves attention, the level of detail of the sculptures is chilling. There is also a restaurant (the baianeria) that serves lunch on weekdays and a brunch on weekends. Now and wait for the red phase to pass and go back to the MASP. Agora e aguardar a fase vermelha passar e voltar a frequentar o MASP.

This is probably the coolest thing we've don in Sao Paulo. It was a tad expensive but it was so worth it. The area is cool and trendy and has lots of cafes and restaurants too. The museum is an icon of the area not just just because if its funky design but in what it represents. Freedom of expression and the ability to step outside the status quo. The following MASP has is electric and you can feel it throughout the community. It's a must see and do for anyone traveling to Sao Paulo.

This was the worst booking experience ever. They won't sell you tickets, you have to book through a online booking system. The systems collects all your data, from birthdate to passport data and address, which I already find invasive. Once you choose your tickets you have 15 minutes to fill out all the fields, while standing in a crowd that builds up because everybody seems to have the same issue, trying to book their tickets there. This is not helpful for containing the virus. Once we put in all our data the system doesn't allow for payments with debit card. My credit card is issued in another country, so I had to start the process all over again, while being already stressed out from putting in all the data and having to write it all again. In the meanwhile the crowd builds up, of course. I tried booking again, sitting in a coffee, calmer. The system doesn't recognize foreign credit cards neither. And foreign addresses. In the end we just have to give up without being able to buy a ticket, which would take 20 seconds under normal circumstances. This is the most user unfriendly booking experience I ever had. The ticket office is outdoors!!! There is no need to let visitor go through all this stress and collect all kind of personal data. Inexplicable and completely nuts. Can't recommend.

CAN'T BUY TICKETS ONLINE! The museum needs to fix their website. I tried 6-7 different credit cards from different US banks and none of them worked on their website. And the in-person office is closed due to COVID, so buying tickets online is the only option. But I couldn't buy the tickets. It's pretty frustrating.

Small museum but packs a punch! I love its unique way of displaying artworks, something I’ve never seen before but highly appreciate! Incredibly ethereal use of space for art exhibitions. Despite only being two floors, MASP organizers know how to organize the floors to make it look more inviting to guests. I loved the exhibition on Indigenous Histories and the variety of representation among the pieces up for viewing. Admission on certain days is free so make sure to review the website before you book.

I’ve just come from living in several countries in Europe and really did not know what to expect from this museum. To say I was blown away is an understatement- a good balance of European, Brazilian and international artworks with a big emphasis on women artists too, something not often see in museums of the highest calibre. Only the top floor was open on the day I went which houses a rotating “permanent collection” containing works by Gorilla Girls, Renoir, Degas, Volpi, DiCavolcanti, Rafael, and so much more ! Eclectic and wonderful! A must see when in SaoPaulo!

If you’re looking for the new type of history this is the place to start!! They have a non-colonized view of the arts and it’s really interesting to know. Also, most of the pieces in there are very famous, from Degas to Van Gogh. Aside from that, all temporary exhibits are made to sensitize the public. Overall, such an incredible curation of this museum! Really impressive.

Well, very nice moment, my eyes did like it :). There are 2 main parts: contemporary and classic. In the last, i was able to appreciate for the very first in the same location, Delacroix, Degars, Rembrandt, Antoine Vestier, Bellini, Renoir, Goya, Raphael and others. Yep i was quite lucky... because i am french and i just arrived yesterday in Sao Paulo, the 9 th of March 2020... So highly recommended, it is vety well done, you watched, you can guess who painted it, and, on the back, you get the answer... Have fun :)

One of the best Brazilian museums, you’ll have the chance to see some of the great local artists like Tarsila do Amaral and Cândido Portinari and also other modern names. They have pieces from Raphael, Botticelli and Rembrandt as well. Great space where you can focus on the paintings and then go around to see who is the artist. The place is highly crowded for tourists, if you want to avoid that go later in the day, 2 or 3 hours before they close, always works. Every Tuesday is free, so enjoy as much as you can. They are offering an audio guide for some of the art works, unfortunately only in Portuguese, but is also great. Enjoy the suplicy coffee if you have the chance.

(Translated by Google) The São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand Art Museum, popularly famous as MASP, is today one of the main artistic points of the metropolis of São Paulo. Located on the important Avenida Paulista, São Paulo's cultural artery, it is famous not only for its architectural style, but also for the fantastic set of works, the most considerable in all of Latin America. Its birth was thanks to the union of efforts between the creator of the company Diários e Emissoras Associados, Assis Chateaubriand, and the master, media activist and Italian art critic Pietro Bardi, recently in our country. They were assisted by Edmundo Monteiro in this task, who supported them with his boldness, the mentality too advanced for the period in which he lived. Thus, MASP came to light on October 2, 1947, starting then a brilliant trajectory, becoming internationally famous for having, like the Louvre Museum, a collection that encompasses from Greco-Roman Antiquity to contemporary art. The MASP space is among the main tourist spots and is one of the most sought after by visitors arriving in the capital of São Paulo. Designed by architect Lina Bo Bardi, the MASP building is famous for the four red pillars that support the large 74-meter span. The place is a meeting point for residents, protesters and workers. The large space also hosts cultural presentations and events such as the Antiques Fair, which takes place on Sundays. Although the red facade of the building has become a postcard, it is inside the building that MASP's main attraction is. The museum offers one of the most important collections in the country and is capable of enchanting all fans of works of art. The set of works began to be assembled by Assis Chateaubriand, mastermind of MASP. The museum was opened in 1968 and today has more than 8,000 pieces for exhibition. The space is already small for the size of the collection and MASP is preparing a major expansion. Among the works of the museum, national names such as Cândido Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Anita Malfatti and Almeida Junior stand out. International art is represented by: Rafael, Mantegna, Botticceli, Delacroix, Renoir, Manet, Monet, Degas, Cèzanne, Picasso, Modigliani, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Matisse and Chagall, among others. One of the most prominent exhibitions is the “Art of France: from Delacroix to Cézanne” collection, which welcomes visitors right at the entrance. On display, there are pieces dating from the 18th to the 20th century. MASP presents in temporary exhibitions part of the permanent collection and also exhibitions in partnership with other museums in the world. Inside, you can buy beautiful design items, souvenirs from the exhibitions and enjoy the restaurant and cafe. Pay a visit, because its interior, its architecture and the huge internal space for exhibitions are very interesting. Very recommended!

Really cool museum, though the interior is really outdated and the collection, although uniquely displayed and some nice works is also quite awkward to read read the titles/artists of the work. It’s very confusing initially to understand where to start and which floors to see exhibits. The cost is a bit expensive. Try to go on free Tuesday. Also be careful, I was attacked in midday by this disgusting crazy homeless man underneath the museum, as he thought I was photographing him? Obviously I was photographing this unique beautiful building by Lina Bo Bardi, but whatever, the museum should clear these people from the property. Though it seems in São Paulo they’re not really concerned about these things.

The remarkable top level takes you on a journey through time with an introduction to a Greek marble, then over the course of the next couple of thousand years, you get to observe the peaks of artistic flair across the world. Notably, within the last century, how basic expression has come in more contemporary pieces. It’s a nice contrast to observe and encourages thought about the impact of world war, globalisation, religion and technology on the subject matter and skilful creation of pieces.

São Paulo’s most famous museum is housed in one of it’s most iconic buildings, and it’s well worth the visit. On the top floor they display pieces from their extensive permanent collection. Here pieces are mounted onto tall slabs of glass, and are all arranged in the same orientation. This unique way to display works creates a visual impact that is unlike any other museum. It also lets you see notes and other markings on the back of many paintings. The first and bottom floors show temporary exhibits. Most of these are well curated and displayed. On our recent visit we saw a beautiful show featuring the work of Venezuelan artist Gertrud Goldschmidt. The museum has two small coffee shops that serve decent coffees, and they clean bathrooms with diaper changing stations.

  • 4/5 Christopher B. 4 years ago on Google
The permanent collection is certainly varied and contains many very fine pieces, but my main complaint is the layout and how information about the pieces is not displayed when viewing the work (you have to look BEHIND it, which sometimes requires a little walk to the next row). I love how the pieces hang from the ceiling and the room feels just “full” in a good way. We enjoyed two other exhibitions on the other floors as well.

The Museum of Art in São Paulo is fantastic! The art on display on the top floor is amazing and so well set up. The ticket to get in cost approximately $10 usd which is worth it in my opinion. There is a nice cafe and shop located downstairs below the ticket booth. And there is a nice restaurant as well. Definitely worth visiting!

It was a little bit of a wait to get in but definitely worth it, great environment and staff. Thanks for the experience and I hope you can continue to bring more art to the public.

The downstairs portion was quite fascinating with all of the different paintings as well as after the first few rows of the upstairs. The first few rows upstairs was all trying to make some sort of political statement (which is not what attracts me to art/museums). Other than this, the staff was lovely and museum was great!

  • 5/5 Nicholas C. 3 years ago on Google
Incredible. My wife and I spent about 2 hours in the museum and could've been there longer. I'm not art person by any means and I have a new level of appreciation for art especially paintings. We had a friend with us who was a bit of a guide which really helped, explaining the history and the type of art for us to gain a deeper understanding. Highly recommend to visit MASP if you venture to Sao Paulo. The staff did a nice job and it's very easy to get in and out. We took the stairs, there are a lot of them, haha.

in the early 2000s, returning on average 1-2 times a year. Exhibitions with renowned names and a large underground theater are hallmarks of the museum. In the free space it is possible to follow the outdoor sessions of Mostra SP and the fair, however on normal days the place is infested with people of bad nature. When passing there, be careful with your belongings

One of the most beautiful collection nicely located in the city center of Sao Paulo, rich diversity of known painters of 19ies and 20ies century as: goya, Delacroix, frans hals, van Gogh, Renoir, manet, monet, Gaugin, matisse, magritte, and many others. The building is great architectural monument as well and the technique to hang the painting is original. The museum is a must for art lovers.

MASP is an imposive minimalistic building of pured concrete which looks like floating on the side of Avenida Paulista. It's really a breathtaking sight. Right now hosts a interesting exhibition of sculptor Maria Martins which worth visiting. We enjoyed our stay too much and the price ticket is reasonable. For sure we will come back one day. Note: All descriptions are also in English which is something you don't see often in Brazil.

Cool architecture. Interesting permanent collection arranged unlike any museum I’ve previously visited. Consistently hosts exhibitions worth seeing. The entry procedure, though, is absurd. Really complicated — and annoying — just to buy a ticket. Gift shop is worth visiting. To be honest, it seems like a museum that could be amazing if they could figure out some things: they don’t do enough to orient you to the space. I imagine some people go to the museum without even seeing the exhibitions on the lower level because you don’t know they exist unless you know they exist.
