If you love history, this mosque is a must see! They have a deal where you can also pay for the museum across the street which I recommend. The fascinating ottoman history of Sarajevo allows you to really appreciate the Bosnian culture and importance of Islam in the local community.

Very calming atmosphere. I felt like going back in time ⏲️for hundreds 💯of years. They kept the old style writing in Arabic Language.

Very beautiful ottoman style Mosque at the heart of the city. Very nice stop to have a relaxing break specially in hot days. The water fountain in the courtyard is very beautiful and decorated with very admirable Arabic script from Quran

This is the first time I paid for ticket to enter a mosque. I paid for entering Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona but it was still built and they needed money. However I don’t know why ticket is needed to enter this mosque. It is a religious site. This mosque is simple, nothing is impressive. Compared to mosques in Istanbul, this mosque is pretty simple. I am giving 4 stars because of my respect for religious places.

It's worth a visit, but first dress properly - you have to cover your shoulders and knees to enter the mosque, just like other sacred buildings and churches everywhere. it has a beautiful courtyard with a fountain and a shade tree, and there is also a small bookstore next to it. Opposite is a cultural center with a school and a museum, once a madrasah. It is part of Baščaršija, where it is essential to sit down for a Bosnian coffee, eat čevapčiče or burek (pie, cheese cake) and treat yourself to baklava, the base of which is thinly stretched dough, butter, honey and nuts, my favorites are pistachios, pine nuts and sesame. If you add sweetened orange juice to it, it's absolutely perfect. Persimmons, roses, halva, rahatlokum are also known, but for me personally, baklava is the best.

It's the finest example of Ottoman Islamic architecture on the Balkan Peninsula. The original mosque was built in 1530 but was destroyed in 1697, and restored in 1762, and destroyed again in 1879. The last reconstruction was in 1886, but during the last war 1992-1995, it was damaged again, but most of its oriental design survived unscathed. It is the main mosque in the city

Really old mosque. Very nice to go here. There is even a school in the opposite of the mosque. A big square in for the of the mosque. Separete woman and men entrance. Build by the ottoman empire. Classic build. When the imam prays, because of the structure you can hear his voice clear and there is a natural echo.

Do I really need to say something about this place? By far the most unique place in the whole Sarajevo. All the ancient ottoman area is simply stunning. You can walk around this tiny streets and just when you expect to turn the corner into another tiny street the square with the mosque pops out. Beautiful

Beautiful central mosque of Sarajevo. Just 3KM to enter. Come well dressed with shoulders and knees covered. Ladies will also need a headscarf which can be borrowed at the ticket office. Inside of the mosque is modestly decorated, nothing lavish, but truly beautiful and peaceful. Note there's special hours open for visits only when there's no service, so check the hours.

Stunning, breathtaking masjid + compound that made me feel like I was in Istanbul again. Beautiful calligraphy decorates the interior of the masjid, and there's a live mu'addhin once a day for Zhuhr prayer. Hope to return a few more times.

Beautiful mosque with exquisite grounds, where you can see local life in action. Watch families stop in, people praying and taking ablutions. There is the main mosque, the fountain in the courtyard, a store and two little mausoleum structures. Very beautiful and sacred, as others have said be sure to be respectful about your attire and behavior. Also check out the complex across the street where there is a gallery of modern art. Wish we had also visited the museum but time ran out.

Nice mosque in the old town. The caretaker inside seemed to hate tourists though and thought it appropriate to yell at us for entering through the door we were told to enter and then scream at us inside for walking around even though no signs or barriers indicated we shouldn’t. This could have been handled more calmly as I don’t believe anyone meant any disrespect to the sight. It left a very bad and unpleasant impression.

One of the oldest mosques in Sarajevo from the Ottoman era situated in the old town. Nice wudu facilities and free drinking water taps just outside. Azan is called out by muazzin from the minaret.

Very beautiful place, mosque (Bosnians say dzamija), courtyard, fountain and coins in the small pool & clock tower. I saw old pictures of the mosque ,before1992-95 war. The interior was more beautiful than now. The reconstruction project was done by Saudi Arabia after the war & they removed most of the paintings ant artworks Unfortunately, because they didn't have the specialty for this kind of works. The government should have given the project to Iranian or Turk architectures instead of Saudi Arabia. At the end credits of the film of "The Message" ,by Mostafa Aqad, this mosque was shown.

Just a shadow of what it once was, it is a crime against cultural heritage what they did to the interior ornamentation.
