Not sure how to rate this place. I expected a somewhat historical museum but this one focuses on people stories, not historical facts (there are some but very little and I'd say very selective). People stories presented there are of course tragic but then there is very little historical context on what has really happened in Bosnia and why we are even reading about the horrors people went through back then. I was familiar with the history before visiting this place but I can imagine that someone with little historical background on the 92-95 war, wouldn't learn much from a visit there. If you've ever been to Auschwitz or Tuol Sleng, you'll be dissappointed with this place.

Finally a museum that captures the horror that happened to Bosnia. It is important to remember the atrocities that happened here to remind people of what a war looks like. The stories of the war are told through numerous personal items that were donated to the museum. The receptionist was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the visit even more worth. A visit to remember for life.

No need to say that this place is a must if you are planning a visit to Sarajevo. I strongly suggest to the visitors to get an idea of what happened in Bosnia during the 1990s so that you can really comprehend the purpose of the museum. The place makes you really reflect on the mistakes and the evil humanity is capable to do. Not a light experience but necessary in my opinion.

Don't leave Sarajevo without seeing this place. It is impossible to go inside and not feel sad and impressed.. I read the articles one by one, what happened is very sad... a black mark on humanity...:(

Definitely worth a visit!! I had previously heard nothing about the conflict within Bosnia and Herzegovina despite it happening only 20 or so years ago. It's been heart-wrenching to read the stories of ordinary and innocent people trying to do their best to survive. Although quite a small museum, there is so much to read and see - I took about 2.5 hours here and there were still some parts that I didn't have the time to explore. The writing is quite small or quite high up so it may be more difficult to read for some people. Exhibits are written in Bosnian and English.

Small museum that tells the harrowing story of the Bosnian war. It is very confronting and emotionally tough going , but that is what makes it very worthwhile and educational for us all. Recommended to anyone visiting Sarajevo, but maybe not for kids under 14.

If you really want to understand what the nation of Bosnia has been through, you need to come here. Many of the hard to reconcile stories and actions are laid bare here, unfiltered. Some of these personal accounts are incredibly hard to read, but must be read regardless to stop them taking place again.

Very informative and heartbreaking museum about the genocide that happen in the early 90s in Bosnia. Entry fee is 12 marks per person. There is a room where you can write on post it’s. However, some of the information about what happened was hard to read due to the lighting and height of the photos with captions.

It's a breathtaking experience with a sad 'taste' after you leave the museum :-( It's unimaginable to see what humans can do to humans. I hope that this museum was not needed at the first place. I could spend hours and hours inside to read each and every text. I'll definitely visit it again next time I'm in Sarajevo.

It's an extremely touching exhibition with artefacts from victims and survivors of the war. There's no audio guide, but there is English captions everywhere, I spent about 1 hour there.

This is a place you must visit when in Sarajevo. The tragic history of Bosnia and its people is something all of us should know or at least read about. You can't leave this place without shedding a tear. Every exhibit tells a different story.

Really great museum if you want to learn about the Bosnian war. The guy on reception was super helpful and answered all our questions. Not too big but very powerful. We visited in winter, so no wait and not very busy.

You want to announce the genocide to the world and you demand a fee for this. It didn't work, it didn't suit. We did not enter.

It's full of pain... You can buy tickets at the door. The cost was 15 km per person. I definitely recommend you to see it. It takes 1 hour to visit the museum. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't busy.

Very interesting museum it was small but perfect it showed everything you need to know about the brutal way the civilians Bosnia people lived through the war. It was also very cheap 8 mark for students and 10 if you were not a student and the staff was very helpful and polite. If you like to know something about the Yugoslavian war then you should definitely visit this museum🤩

Very interesting museum with extremely friendly staff. The museum contains several very narrow rooms with lots and lots of information. If you visit Bosnia and Hercegovina it is necessary to learn about the recent history in my opinion. Do not go with children, as there are lots of pictures of wounded and dead people. Be aware that the topic is very heavy and you might feel sad after visiting. We’ve been there almost two hours and still couldn’t read everything. Recommend!

The content is very heavy but well worth a visit. You can easily spend 2+ hours here if you take the time to read all the information and watch the videos.

During my visit to the museum, I expected a comprehensive overview of the conflict and war, but was met with a display that felt somewhat lacking in cohesive structure. Although there was an array of civilian information and exhibits, I found it a bit difficult to piece together a clear narrative, which left me wanting a more streamlined presentation to facilitate a deeper understanding of the events portrayed. Moreover, while I had hoped for a neutral representation of the conflict, the exhibit seemed to slightly favor one perspective over the other. This subtle imbalance gave me the impression that I was not getting a fully rounded view of the complex nuances of the conflict. Despite these points of contention, the museum offered some interesting insights, providing a starting point for individuals looking to delve deeper into this period of history. I see potential in the exhibition, but I believe a revisit of its approach could help in presenting a more balanced and comprehensive view to visitors.

The museum is tiny, but interesting. It's a lot to think about, scary and sad. Many authentic exhibits, strong photos. It tells a harrowing story of war and is very informative. It allows for sad but great experiences. A place worth visiting. Nice service. You can pay by card and take photos.

An amazing museum of a heart breaking tragedy. Make sure you're heart/soul is ready for this as the stories and images are not for the faint of heart. Tickets are on the pricey side but it won't be a museum I forget any time soon.

I couldn't hold back my tears. Nothing can justify such barbaric actions and methods. May Allah have mercy on their souls and make it easy for the survivors.

Everyone should see this, but remove the room where people can leave their own dticky notes. Most are rather anti-semitic or pro China and anti-Taiwan.

Intensive, shocking and well prepared. Not only collecting of artifacts and documentation. The original diaries from different perspectives, locations and people make the horror of this war to reality. Absolutely worth the time!

A must visit in Sarajevo if you are interested in history. The entry cost is approximate $5 Euros and be purchased at the entrance. I visited during night time and it wasn’t too busy.

It was a very sombre experience visiting this musesum, which tells stories and includes objects from victims of the war. It is truly horrific and there are no words to describe the atrocities. Very important to visit and understand what occurred so we don't forget. Very well organised museum and easy to follow the exhibits. Would recommend as an important place to visit when in Sarajevo to understand this part of the country's very recent tragic history.

This is a well-done, hard-hitting exposé of what happened during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia. Very interesting and compelling. The educational placards explain very well what happened. A must-see to understand the war. 10 km for adults, 8 km for students.

Such an emotional experience. Made me feel more empathy for this country. If you want to be more connected to the people this is a great place to understand what they went through.

Intense and shocking, as it should be! You can understand in depth the horrors Bosnians underwent during the war...

A must see in Sarajevo - one must not forget what happened so recently. Better be mentally prepared, this is a ride through history and the atrocities done after the declaration of independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina in early 1992 until 1996. Still a mandatory visit.

It was a nice museum about the Bosnian Massacre and its effects. There are many topics to talk about and these deep issues have caused the museum to be very busy. It's a bit confusing and hard to follow. Apart from that, you understand the value of the museum very well. Especially seeing such a great destruction of our recent history will help you to establish a stronger bond.

It was very strong experience for me to visit this museum. You could feel the heaviness inside. In the museum, there is lot of stories, memories, clothes and equipments.

  • 5/5 Johna W. 1 year ago on Google
this was a truly moving experience. i learned so much about the war and genocide in BIH that I didn’t know anything about, and also learned about modern forms of torture. the museum was well laid out and had lots of different types of artifacts, models, and pictures/video. i wouldn’t recommend to take small children here but otherwise i think everyone should experience this.

Must visit. The museum has collected testimonials and stories from victims which are vividly detailed and which gives you a deeper understanding of what horrific things have been done to the bosniaks and how much they suffered. Hard to grasp and tough to swallow but it's so important that we don't forget what has happened here..

A museum that puts into perspective the horrors that the citizens of Sarajevo lived through in the early 90’s. Things that our guides never fully explained. A must see while in Sarajevo.
