This beautiful building dates back 500 years and survived the wars with relatively little damage. Now only used religiously on special Jewish occasions it is converted to a museum over 3 floors displaying various artifacts of Jewish culture and their time in Bosnia & Hertzogovina. A large book hangs from the ceiling detailing the names of 12000 Jews killed here in WW2. The displayed circumcision knife made my eyes water. Very cheap to enter, just 3KM.

(Translated by Google) The first city in my life where Jews lived for hundreds of years in peace and love with Bosnians. Mazl Comrade! They say that Sarajevo is the second Yerushalayim, and for good reason.

(Translated by Google) A magical place, with such an incredible history. Great exhibits and educational films about the Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina and also about the Haggadah. When I visited the museum, I was led and taught by an elderly lady. To this lady I want to say one thing, that she is probably the friendliest person by far whom I have met in a long time. The other staff is accommodating and friendly. Do not forget enough time to plan, because the museum has a lot of interesting things. I would recommend to anyone! Admission is very cheap compared to other museums.

There is a Museum of the Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was the oldest Synagogue in Sarajevo and now is a museum. For 10 marks you get entry to this Museum and to 4 others; svrzo, despic, brusa bezistan, and museum of Sarajevo (1878 to 1914). There are pictures and items inside from the past.

Nice small museum tucked behind the bustling streets of the Bazaar quarter. I found the presentation quite appealing, as there was neither an information, nor an object overload. This renders the presentation even more impressive. Also the building as such is a very interesting one...

Entrance is 3 KM, 1.5 euro, Monday to Friday. You have 3 floors of expositions telling the history of Jews in Bosnia, 2WW, Holocaust, everything that happened there.

(Translated by Google) Before the Holocaust, Jews made up 10 percent of Sarajevo's population. They are an integral part of its history and tradition. A large number of Sarajevo Jews made an immeasurable contribution to the cultural, scientific, economic and every other development of the city. That is why this museum should be an indispensable part of every city tour.

(Translated by Google) The museum offers a rich content of material culture of the Bosnian Sephardim and is worth a visit, and for such a visit it is a shame to come to the curator who comes unprepared (although the visit is announced), asks questions about the origin of the visitor and tells things from his "research field" spends the object and is not acquainted with the content for which we are here.

Old synagogue, remarkable in its own right. Museum guide is one of the best we encountered anywhere. He is so much fun and education about Jewish culture Sephardic especially. Please go there and enjoy it. If you encourage him to talk you can end up spending much more time than expected and being happy about it.

A moving place to learn about Judaism and the Jewish people who lived here and the vibrancy of their lives before the atrocities that took so many lives under the Croat Ustasa and German Nazis.

A museum that needs to be visited. Jews are an essential part of Sarajevo who played a big role in its development until WW2

Beautiful building with some interesting documents and description. As they admit themselves in an introduction, the museum could be more than it is.

The museum delivers a respectful and enlightening experience with thoughtful exhibits and artifacts, offering a deeper understanding of Bosnia and Herzegovina's multicultural tapestry. During my November visit, I had the entire museum to myself, spending just over 2 hours exploring its compact yet impactful space. While the potential for becoming one of the most interesting Jewish museums in Europe is evident, there's room for improvement. A lot of the information on the labels/plaques was poorly written and occasionally a bit confusing. The stories of the Righteous Among Nations were hard to read, which was a shame. That could easily be an interactive exhibit.

first of all it is interesting to explore the life of the jewish community in bosnia and sarajevo. they have been a part of the country for more than 500 years. the building has an interesting architecture. however the presentation is outdated and on some places they seem to be careless like on some windows where you can see giant spider webs

Small and modest, the exhibit will be sufficient to give you an idea of the Sephardic Jews’ history on Sarajevo from its beginnings to the holocaust. The museum is housed on a beautiful old synagogue, which alone makes the visit worthwhile.

Amazing and poignant! A beautiful structure still being used occasionally by the Jewish community of Sarajevo, Bosnia Filled with real artifacts and photos cataloguing the history of Sephardic Jews in Sarajevo, before WWII. Run by Jews, but made as a sober but loving gift to everyone, this restored synagogue & museum give justice to the triumph of the Chosen people under the Nazis and the efforts of non-Jewish Bosnians to resist the systematic antisemitic propoganda, risking their lives to save their Jewish neighbors!
