We stumbled upon this little museum by chance and were convinced to visit it by one employee. We were astonished by the history which is gathered in this place. The staff is exceptionally knowledgable and friendly! The items on display tell a rich story of the town of Sarajevo and are themselves beautiful to look at. It is definitely worth a visit!

Unique museum worth seeing but the staff here were unprofessional. They're playing loud music on the mobile phone and laughing at full volume when having a visitor. The visitors cannot focus on the place and read calmly the information. We pay for the ticket and we are guests in your city and country so you need to show at least some respect. Even if this is some part of 'Balkan style behaviour' this shouldn't take place in the museum.

A two-story, residence-turned museum along the Miljacka River showing the life in Ottoman period. Easily accessible with 10~15 minutes walk from Bascarsija. Description of the each room (there are about five) in Bosnian, English and German are available.

If you are coming to Sarajevo, please visit this museum, because you will love it. You'll see original house that belonged to a wealthy ortodox family Despic, where you can see how Sarajevo lived in last centuries. The first house theatre was located here, so try not to miss it.

The history of the house, and how it came to its present structure, is interesting. Also, the story of the owners and their contributions to the arts is fun to learn about. There are family photos and even a copy of the funeral wishes of the owner (he did like doing things his way even if this was in the face of tradition). I am glad I put this on my to do list. Do buy the group ticket for the 5 museums. It's great value at 10 marks.

Two floors showing the differences between Austria-Hungary decor and classic Ottoman ear stylings. There are similarities, tall, tile-clad heater stoves in each room, enjoying coffee and lounging/socializing being the focus of most rooms. The ornate woods are delightful, and there is even a piano to show the modern influence.

I love this place, it was a home of rich orthodox family, Despic. They held first theatre shows in their house. Don't forget to read the letter from grandfather Despic to his heirs

The curator (who's historian) was very friendly and open, and he introduced us to the house's history upon our arrival (like a small guided tour). Very interesting museum alongside the talks with the curator, which gave us an insight into the city's history too. I highly recommend to visit it along with "Sarajevo 1878-1914" museum (you can buy combined ticket too).

The second Is used as a museum of Literary art.

Authentic and perfectly saved rooms in this house represents mixture of cultures. Some objects inside have a story of how they got there. For some people photos of this place would be enough to see, but it's worth a shot to come and visit because staff will be happy to tell you story of each family in this house.

(Translated by Google) Small, worth seeing museum, which makes the Orthodox everyday family life vivid, in particular also its change over time. The presentation is good, but could be renewed occasionally (eg yellowed labels). The relation of the current special exhibition "Heroj Valter" to the house is unfortunately not explained.
