This is the entrance, it might look closed but gate is not locked. Opening time is 10-14. 2KM per person. Only praying room is visited inside.

EXTREMELY COLD, UNWELCOMING AND UNPROFESSIONAL. NEEDS TO ADOPT A BUSINESS MODEL! I would give this place zero (0) stars if I could. I am Jewish and from North America. In early January, I visited Sarajevo. On January 3, 2023 I took a tour of the Jewish sites of Sarajevo. Being Jewish, I was extremely interested in visiting the Ashkenazi synagogue and learning more about Sarajevo's Jewish Community. I was to visit the synagogue as part of the tour on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. A few weeks before taking the tour in late December 2022, before taking the tour, my tour guide contacted the synagogue and was told that it would be open for visits on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. I based my itinerary on the synagogue being open on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. I was extremely excited to visit as this would be a highlight of my visit to Sarajevo. When I went to take my tour on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, I was in complete shock and disbelief to learn that the synagogue decided to be closed even though it stated that it would be open. This was complete nonsense as I have never experienced this in any other places I have visited. Unless there is an emergency, extenuating circumstance (in this case there was neither), or the website states that the synagogue will be closed, people expect that it will be open! This is not fair to anyone, especially to visitors who are visiting from other countries. This is a horrible thing to do to anyone! The next day (January 4, 2023 was my last day in Bosnia and Herzegovina), I returned in the early afternoon after taking a different tour. I returned hoping to visit the synagogue. When I rang the bel, I was coldly told that it was closed and that they were open for visits from 10:00 to 14:00 and was turned away. Sarajevo was an amazing place to visit and the Bosnian people were extremely welcoming, but nobody was welcoming here at all. Unlike other places I visited in Bosnia, everyone at this place was extremely cold, unwelcoming and unprofessional! In addition, I attempted to contact the Ashkenazi synagogue by e-mail numerous times. I waited for several weeks and never received a response. I then attempted numerous times to contact another e-mail address of the Jewish Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I never received a response. Does La anyone ever answer their e-mails and messages? In addition, I found another e-mail to contact them. I finally received a response from an officer of the synagogue and did receive an apology for the inconvenience. While I appreciated the apology, I still does not change the fact that I was unable to visit the synagogue. I was told to use this contact to arrange a visit if I ever decided to visit Sarajevo again. However, the same nonsense could easily happen again where I can be told that the synagogue will be open and then it could be decided to be closed for no apparent reason. This is both a horrible business practice and a horrible thing to do to anyone. They need to adopt a business model. Again, when a place states that it will be open, it should be open! I always wanted to visit the Ashkenazi Synagogue, but now I will never have the opportunity to do so. This is an extremely poor reflection on both the Ashkenazi Synagogue and Sarajevo's Jewish community They should be ashamed!

Ashkenazi Synagogue in Sarajevo is Sarajevo's primary and largest synagogue and is located on the south bank of the river Miljacka. It was constructed in 1902 and remains the only functioning synagogue in Sarajevo today. There also public kitchen which was open every day except for the important Jewish Holidays. Instead of canned meat and vegetables, the kitchen uses fresh items for preparation of food and side dishes such as salad, fruits and cakes have become a part of the daily menu. Paintings and nice music create an atmosphere of a pleasant restaurant were abonents can spend memorable moment in conversation.

We came at 12:16 when it is supposed to be open and it was closed. They should update their hours to avoid inconvenience.

Beautiful, insightful, and heartwarming that the synagogue and community still exists. Local staff was great to share insights into the history of the community and today’s challenges.

My very first succedded attempt to go inside a jewish synagoge. I think and its abvious that they have many restriktions and limitations for visitors all over the world. Here in Sarajevo its open monday-friday(10am-2pm). Men must have a hat( called kappa) before they enter the temple. They have ceremonies on fridays evening but not open to visitors(non jewish). There will be an english tourguide which will answer your questions.

The only active synagogue in town! We were guided by a young enthusiastic student, born in town during the war. Interesting!

👍👍 An absolute piece of paradise in the middle of Sarajevo. It is such a hidden gem definitely worth visiting and exploring. Your kids will love it here, but be cautious, it might be hard to make them leave. There is no entrance fee. You can come with a car but have to pay for a parking place. Parkin...
