Skenderija
pedestrian
iron
bridge
is
also
known
as
the
Eiffel
Bridge
among
Sarajians.
It
is
one
of
the
bridges
over
the
river
Miljacka
in
Sarajevo.
It
is
located
near
Skenderija
(part
of
Sarajevo).
The
original
bridge
was
built
in
the
15th
century
by
order
of
Skender
Pasha,
to
connect
the
buildings
of
his
endowment
on
the
banks
of
the
Miljacka.
The
Miljacka
River
often
washed
away
Sarajevo's
wooden
bridges,
so
it
was
with
the
original
wooden
bridge
as
well.
In
1893,
the
Austro-Hungarian
administration
built
a
bridge
with
an
iron
fence
upstream
from
the
original
one.
It's
said
that
bridge
is
designed
by
Gustave
Eiffel,
the
builder
of
the
famous
Eiffel
Tower
in
Paris,
but
there
is
no
document
that
confirms
this.
You
won't
find
any
additional
information
about
the
history
on
the
bridge
itself,
which
is
a
shame.
And
the
maintenance
of
the
bridge
could
also
be
worked
on.
