The "Yoga for the Inflexible Guy" class has been perfect for me. Danny is patient and runs the sessions without any pretense. This is a yoga inspired class that will help anyone improve their flexibility. Whether you haven't stretched since your last high school gym class, or you currently maintain a daily exercise routine and just need some extra work to improve results, this class can help you.

As the pandemic was coming to safer place, I was looking for a place to do yoga. I'm a guy in my 50's...I can't do the positions that 25 year old women can and frankly those studios don't work for me. When I discovered "Yoga for the Inflexible Guy", I thought it was too good to be true. It's a safe space without body judgement and Danny leads us old dudes through poses and breathing that work for my body. It's not just good for my body, it's good for my soul. I feel rejuvenated after each class. And the bonus is discovering pilates here too. I've now had a few private pilates sessions (thanks Kacie!) and have taken a number of reformer classes as well. It's a great environment with instructors that cater to a small group setting and the needs of whomever is in the class. No posers, no preeners, no judgement. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I have been taking the Inflexible Person class for a couple of years now. I am much more flexible now. I'm 59 BTW and my wife signed me up as a gift and a subtle nudge because I couldn't sit criss-crossed without groaning. Danny is a great teacher. He welcomes new class members, and gears the class toward people that are inexperienced with yoga, so don't be intimidated. Danny offers different ways to do the poses to best suit your level and growth, and you only do what you are comfortably capable of doing. It is also a fun group of participants that I look forward to seeing each week. I attend Mondays, I started out going only on Mondays. I've since added Thursdays, and Saturdays to each week. Doing the class from home on Zoom is super convenient and accessible.

Danny is a great instructor. I really enjoyed his personal concern and respect for each person's process. I'd recommend anyone with chronic pain issues, not just back pain, to take Danny's course. You will get a chance to adjust your perception of pain and learn some techniques to help deal with and reduce your pain. The class goal of giving each participant some useful tools to manage pain was clear and gradually unfolded, building on each week's lesson and homework assignment. This was my first exposure to anything yoga. Danny was great at explaining the connections between our movements and breathing and our mindset. It was clear from the beginning that I would get the most benefit by a consistent investment of about 10+ minutes of meditation per day. Therein, lies the rub. I was taking the class to help with back pain. The reason I have back pain is that I don't do my exercises. I still don't have the self-discipline needed, I still have back pain. At the beginning of each class, each of us had an opportunity to describe our successes doing the homework. I could have happily skipped that part of the class. With only a few students, I couldn't hide in the back row. Danny always made it optional to participate, but I felt guilty either avoiding confession or confessing my failings. I really enjoyed the guided movement portion of each class! The instruction was direct and easy and the individual attention was greatly appreciated. Danny really paid close attention so each of us could get the most benefit. Danny suggested that I look into the weekly Wed. evening mat class offered by Begin Pilates. I have been going every other week and intend to go weekly as I can schedule it. The instructor is also really good. The class involves more movement and that is the ticket for me.

Bones and Balance (B&B), is an excellent class. I am 68 years old and am quite fit. B&B keeps me toned and restores my energy. I know this because, I recently moved to Florida & took a break from classes for about a month. I noticed a change in my over-all fitness. I’m now back on track because, Begin Pilates offers on-line classes. Thanks to instructor/owner, Maria, I am able to maintain my fitness program while enjoying life here in Florida aboard my boat. No matter your level of fitness Maria, does a great job tailoring workouts to your age and/or ability. I guarantee you’ll enjoy and benefit from these classes, no matter where you are!

I had never done yoga before bu had wanted to for a while. My hamstrings were so tight my doctor literally prescribed going to a yoga for seniors class (I'm in my mid-50's!). A friend referred my wife to the Yoga for the Inflexible Guy class at Begin Pilates (the title alone checked so many boxes for me). The class is exactly what I needed and Danny is a great instructor. Since the pandemic we have been doing online Zoom classes and he has not missed a beat. If you are looking to add yoga and mediation to your Covid quarantine, this is the place and the class.

Begin Pilates is a great studio - the teachers are all stellar and bring their own unique voice to their classes. All teachers are also especially good at providing modifications and keeping class flowing and fun while you get a great workout. I’ve been to many other studios in Portland and feel very at home here. (And, especially if you’re new to pilates try to get a class with Kacie Dart - she’s an absolute joy and one of the best teachers I’ve ever had!)

The online Bones & Balance class at Begin Pilates is just what I need to keep my core in decent shape during the pandemic! Maria is an experienced Pilates instructor and she can expertly talk the participant through every move with clear details that we can understand. No matter what the skill level, Maria teaches to benefit one's whole body and well being. Janell Bittner Pilates student for almost 20 yrs.

I've been attending Yoga for the Inflexible Guy for the last month at this studio for the last month and I'm hooked. The instructor and classmates have been very welcoming to someone who has never really done yoga before. I'm already feeling my body becoming more capable. After only a class or two I already had more awareness of how I'm carrying my body and I'm more present at home. This class makes me feel good while I do it, but then carries over into the evening and even the next day.

Rock climbing gym
😐 I recently joined the Planet Granite and really love the gym! There is a nice staff and excellent climbing to be done (for adults). Unfortunately, it is not the best place for children (under 13). They are not allowed to Boulder upstairs, and the small Bouldering area downstairs does not have route...
