If you're looking for the best Muay Thai school in scarborough, Southside Muay thai is the place to go. I love the atmosphere in the gym. The instructors do a good job explaining how to properly do the techniques to prevent self-injury and their newly made showers are the bomb! Comes in clutch after a workout.

South Side Muay Thai is an incredible place to learn. I have completed my first month at Southside, and here's what I have to say: after being in and out of multiple martial arts and kickboxing gyms over 3 years, I can confidently say that the instructors at Southside Muay Thai are some of the most genuine I've ever seen in the industry. They put a great amount of detail into teaching you the mechanics that make your strikes powerful and efficient, instead of just teaching you a pattern of movements to follow. Mikey has selected some of the most passionate instructors I've ever seen and has also taken great care in training them to become incredible instructors. If you decide to begin your journey here with the intro to Muay Thai classes, you'll find the most technical training Toronto has to offer from Klem, Jay, and Seth. In addition, I've also had massage therapy from Bruce Ong, and I would highly recommend looking into a session if you find that you have any muscle tightness, cramps, or mobility issues. Bruce is a lifelong martial artist with a background in kinesiology, and he is able to combine his expertise in both to give you personalized treatment you just can't get anywhere else.

I joined the beginners Sgrol-Ma Muay Thai class for ladies that Shaz (of Sharif Fitness) coaches at Southside and it has been absolutely amazing. It is intense and challenging and so freaking hard sometimes, but 100% worth it. Its my current absolute fave work out that I've ever done. She's an awesome coach, supportive and nurturing when that's what you need but also a hard task master who pushes her students constantly towards the betterment of themselves (both mentally and physically). She is an advocate and role model for women everywhere. Plus, as far as I know, it's the only Muay Thai class that is for ladies only and that's a huge draw in for me as a hijabi.

I been attending this gym for almost 6 months now and honestly I doubt I’ll ever be leaving. By far the best and friendly Muay Thai gym in all of Scarborough, they really know what there doing. Coaches Kru Mikey, Jay, Seth, Klem and the other coaches really strive to make you the best person you possibly can be, and there so down to earth and chill that it’s always a blast talking to them and asking for some help. Southside Muay Thai is the place to be at if your looking for a place to train 🫶🏽

I believe this to be the best gym in Toronto if not Ontario. The instructors are highly experienced, helpful and there is always a sense of community and belonging every single time you walk in the door. Highly recommend.

Been training here for years and I can confidently say I've never regretted the decision to join. I came for lessons but stayed because of the community. The lessons: Focuses on building foundation. Classes always build upon the previous week as well. There is a very good emphasis on repetition which is the only way to get better. Remember Burce Lee: "I fear not the man who knows 10,000 kicks, I fear the man who practiced 1 kick 10,000 times". For veterans, there is a specifically designed training/torture regiment for you! Come and join along with other very-serious minded people and train with those who aim to compete. The gym: Spacious gym floor AND a regulation size boxing ring. 2 sets punching bags (x18 bags total I think) and a weight lifting set in the corner. The community: This is why I came back. I started with a friend but when he quit I didn't mind because I made lots of friends here. The instructors are great and take the time to help you correct your weaknesses. Lots of people willing to come up and partner with you, and.... The Mentality ...many long-timers are enthusiastic to teach you. Despite the high skill the gym members have, there is still an emphasis not to resort to violence and this is often taught during the lessons. All peaceful negotiations should be explored before engaging. The gym also shuns using techniques outside that you should ONLY use in the ring (elbows, for one) as they can really hurt someone else. The owner: If there was a PhD you can earn in Muay Thai , the gym owner Mikey Perez would have multiple. I watched Mikey spar both new and veteran members and he always has something to teach. He was very interested in his member's progress, and gets excited (you can see him smiling in his sessions all the time). His passion to teach is what made Muay Thai so easy to pick up. In short... Come in for a trial!

I’ve been attending the Sgrol-Ma (Ladies only) classes for almost 2 months now and it’s been amazing so far. Shaz is an awesome coach who uplifts her students/clients through fun anecdotes and positive attitude. During the pandemic, I was extremely sedentary. I struggled to find the right activity that will get me motivated enough to get moving. This Muay Thai class was the perfect choice for me. Since it’s a ladies only class, it’s not as intimidating as other martial arts classes. Also, being around women with similar goals is great. It’s a judgment-free zone and we cheer each other on to keep going and improving. Even though it hasn’t been long, I can already see how much stronger and more energetic I’m becoming. The classes are definite highlights of my week!

This is hands-down the best Muay Thai gym in Scarborough. Kru Mikey and all the other instructors are fantastic and really know what they're doing. The community is great too and I can't wait to keep coming back!

Damn… i’ve only joined the gym for 2 weeks but it feels like home-coming! I’ve been practicing Muay Thai for a couple of years at different gyms, but there’s something so humbling about South Side @ St Clair. In such a short time, I’ve learnt so much from the instructors and my peers, and I leave the gym eager to come back for more! I look forward to the next class already! :)

I have trained at several of the most popular and well known gyms in the GTA and my experience with Southside has been by far the best. Not only are the coaches some of the most skilled and insightful I have ever come across, it is an extremely welcoming and friendly environment for practitioners of all levels! Doesn't matter if its your first day or you have been training for years if you are considering going to this gym pull the trigger because I can say with confidence you will not be disappointed!

So this is a review geared towards parents who are interested in enrolling their child(ren) into Southside. My 7 year old son has been with Southside for just over 6 months and we cannot be happier with our decision (as I know there are many options out there). All the coaches are super professional and are experts in their art. On top of that, they are so friendly and approachable. They make every child/student feel welcomed and maximize their opportunity to learn. My husband and I have seen many new students join the class and a coach will work specifically with them, in order to bring them up to speed and make sure that they learn their basic skills first. I have never seen any class so attentive and focus on small details that can otherwise be overlooked. Most importantly, my son absolutely LOVES attending classes. He adores his coaches and truly wants to learn the art of Muay Thai. Just a side note, the gym is filled with walls of Championship belts, trophies and medals. These guys/girls are no joke! Parents, this is THE place to be.

Perfect gym for both beginners and advanced fighters looking to compete. I've been to several gyms in Toronto, and this is by far the best. The coaches are very knowledgeable and welcoming, and there's a great sense of community.

This morning was my free first trial session. The place was huge, thus comfortable in Covid social distancing context. The trainer, Lucas, was friendly. A great place for Muay Thai athletes to train. Though, you don't have to be a professional athlete to train here. I trained for fun. Thanks for the free trial, will come back soon.

Southside felt more than just a gym. Their community is amazing and despite the new social distancing regulations, everyone is friendly and welcoming. I've been to several gyms in the Scarborough area and Southside offers the best authentic Muay Thai! The coaches and trainers push you to new levels, but ensure your safety at all times. Building physical and mental strength through martial arts make up the foundation of their curriculum. The confidence you build, skills you acquire and connections you make here are all a reflection of the people at Southside.

Southside Muay Thai Academy has a great environment to improve your overall mental and physical health. The trainers are fantastic at teaching the art of 8 limbs and are extremely friendly. The gym community also helps build each other up to achieve each other's fitness goals, which will motivate you to strive for your personal best version of yourself. As a result, it will improve your self-confidence and self discipline.

I've been training here for over 2 months building my foundations, and I've had great experience with the staff and other students so far. Staff members/coaches are so approachable and professional at what they do. Some of the experienced athletes who trains there even helps other newer students like me on their techniques and forms, even giving them tips, which shows how positive the environment there is. The locker room is clean and no funny odors, though I wish the space for it isn't that limited so they could make more room for changing and more lockers because it could get crammed some times. Definitely recommend this place for people who's looking for new and challenging experience.

I've been training at SSMT for about 1 yr now. The instructors are all highly knowledgeable and have excellent pedagogical ability. The facility itself is also outstanding, with plenty of space, heavy punching bags, and a well equipped gym to boot.

I have been at SSMT for more than six months, and the atmosphere is phenomenal. The trainers are patient and supportive while pushing you to experience more advanced movements, combinations and techniques. Furthermore, everyone at SSMT challenges one another and, at the same time, builds upon their basics during partner sessions. Overall, I strongly recommend SSMT for recreation and discipline or to achieve and grow to your highest potential.

The level of knowledge and skill that is taught at SS is world-class. The coaches, staff and the community are all very kind and knowledgeable in Muay Thai. Everyone is willing to help you achieve your goals from Day 1. The facility itself is very big, lots of room to conduct multiple classes, a weigh lifting area and showers. Would highly recommend training here!

Southside Muay Thai is hands down the best place to learn traditional Muay Thai in Scarborough. Coach Jay is excellent at working with beginners and Kru Mikey can teach anyone at any level something about the sport. The facility is clean, well equipped, and spacious.
