A two star rating is generous and that’s just for the fact you are in Hawaii! People/staff are friendly but IMO not worth it. The time stated 1.5 hours and that was pretty close. We didn’t do the garden tour afterwards and they gave us a refund which was nice. All in all I felt so bad for kids who waited so long to ride a train and just see plants and trees. I’m glad I can warn my son and family in case he ever thinks of going. I’ll post pics and trust me - these pics are the most interesting thing you’ll see. You go on the same route two times back and forth. Just get the pineapple dole whip, buy a magnet and call it a day! Go to the north shore tide pools instead!

Well, it's a plantation and this is one of very few attractions they have anyway so you will be tempted to get the ride anyway but probably not worth your money. It isn't too bad way to see tropical plants such as guava and banana but you won't touch any of it and it is hard to hear music or guide sound of the attraction anyway. Also the waiting time is way too long. I don't know how young kids can stand such a waiting. Probably wouldn't do this again.

A good fresh smell of sweet pineapples everywhere here. It’s nice to go on express train if you don’t like to walk in this hot weather. 😊👍. Remember to bring bottle of water, a hat and mini fan here. 1 hour in-line but worth the wait.

Train is a 2 mile trip along a dirt road into the fields. The trip takes 22 minutes and they play a history of the plantation on the speaker while in motion. In addition, you see some abandoned machines, and the reservoir.

Not 100% sure if it’s worth the wait. It’s “cool” to say you waited and went on it but after waiting an hour and a half (luckily it was a cloudy day with a breeze) for what seemed to be a fast 20 minute train ride, i don’t think it’s worth it. I thought we’d see so much more stuff than we did. You essentially ride up the track for a few minutes, then back down another track that’s parallel to the first one. So you basically see the same thing twice. Our train did stop once in the middle though just because the operator had to yell at some people for not wearing their masks. I thought we were gonna get out and explore 😅 guess not. So IMO, If it’s a hot day... don’t do it. Or you could have one person wait in line while the others explore. Hope you have a better experience than we did!

A fantastic experience getting off the train. Thank you U'lu for helping us find my lost Carolina hurricanes hat

Do NOT waste both your money, and more importantly, your time! On a busy day, the line to ride the train exceeded 1 hour just to get on the train. Positive was that once inside the station, the cover gets you shade. The train ride itself is not entertaining outside of seeing the various growing areas; can be cool in its own right to see quickly. Biggest grievance is that 60% of the train ride repeats itself as an “out-and-back” train ride that rides parallel to the same track upon return; what you see going out, you see coming back in. The train itself is nice and a good ride. For what else there is to offer at the Dole Plantation, this is an attraction that you can skip and not feel like you missed out while visiting. Again, the cost is high for a family, but it is really about the time you lose to ride it during busy times. Even during non-peak times, this train ride would likely not be worth the experience.

Expensive 20 Minute slowotion ride through the pineapple plantation. Train broke down 2 times, former farm equipment is rotting away on the sides. People get blasted with the pineapple express song that you can buy in the gift store for 5 usd. Would not recommend unless you're really bored.

The train ride is too expensive for just simple fields of pineapple. Not appealing views at all. The sound of the train doesn’t allow you to hear the audio presentation as well. Not to mention the wait before entering the platform then more wait at the platform! Everything is so slow and they call it express!

The train ride is very underwhelming. The train moves slower than walking. It may have been the time of year we visited, but we saw no pineapples. The plants themselves were very dried out. You will see a few fruit trees here and there. It's ridiculous to pay all this money to see red dirt. Don't waste your time or money. Instead, take a walk through the garden, you'll see much more greenery than you will on the train ride.

Would not recommend the Pineapple Express Train. Between the stinky exhaust smell, extremely loud speakers above the seats and creaking train cars, it was not very enjoyable. Additionally the “farm” looks overgrown and more of decoration than an actual working farm. Coming in January meant less crowds but everything seems too pricey for what it is. The only positive was getting a Dole Whip, same as Disneyland.

I should read the review first;;; The meaning of just riding;;; The lady at the ticket booth was completely unfriendly. With this money, I would just buy ice cream ㅠㅠㅠ

1 train, literally 1 train only for hundreds of people waiting for hours. Waited 2 hours just for my niece's first time Hawaii experience. Never again. I also don't think Dole Plantation cares about any of these reviews so just for your information if you plan on visiting.

When buying the ticket they tell everyone except the waiting will be one hour and even when you are in the line they cone and let you know how long it will take . With the knowledge of that it will take one hour minimum still we went for a ride but not much attention. It was okay but not waiting that long.

It was terrible, the cost of this tour is a maximum of $3. we were seated in trailers for half an hour, then they took us, and what did we see ???? We were shown empty fields, everything was plowed up, bare land, then we saw fields with pineapples, but there was not a single pineapple there. They also showed us several trees that are clearly already dying, they urgently need water. we also saw heaps of rusty scrap metal thrown across the fields. beautiful, large pineapple, we never saw. sadly , wasted money Do not go on this train , there is nothing interesting there .

If I could put 0 stars I would. I will begin with that the staff was extremely unfriendly and arrogant. We had to wait for 1.5 hours and I cannot imagine how young children would handle this. They don’t even provide seating for the wait. Miserable tourist trap and I wouldn’t recommend visiting. I thought ppl in Hawaii are supposed to be friendly.

Arrive half an hour early to avoid the lines! Worth the 20 min train ride if you don’t have to wait in line for it

  • 3/5 J 2 years ago on Google
Waiting at the line when it’s hot it’s just crazy so be ready to be sweating for a while bring an umbrella!!!! The 3 star is because at least they should have a shade for the people after us the costumers pay a expend much money !!

There was not a single part of this that was enjoyable. We got off the train and I didn’t see a single person smiling. Over an hour wait for a 20 minute ride that doubles back on itself. No seating while waiting and every machine you see is rusted and doesn’t work. This is the type of experience you remember for years because you can bond over how bad it was. The only remote plus is that the staff is friendly. Just google a video on pineapples instead. Or watch paint dry. Either would be more interesting.

You may not take my advice, but if you can do something else.….2 hour plus wait time. You should name it pineapple sloth instead Pineapple Express.
