In the charming city of Antwerp, Belgium, there lived a young boy named Nello. He didn't have a family, but his heart was as big as the sky. One lucky day, he met a furry friend named Patrasche, a cart dog who had been left all alone. Nello and Patrasche became inseparable pals. Every day, they strolled into town together, sharing laughter and stories. Their most special place was the grand cathedral that stood tall and proud. Inside, Nello would gaze at paintings that looked like rainbows on the walls. These magical works of art were painted by a famous artist named Rubens. Life wasn't always easy for Nello and Patrasche, but they faced it with courage and smiles. They stuck together through thick and thin, proving that true friends can conquer anything. As the seasons changed, their adventures brought them back to the cathedral they loved dearly. And in that very cathedral, their story reached its final chapter. The troubles they faced had grown too big, and they found peace side by side. Nello and Patrasche crossed the rainbow bridge together, inside the cathedral that had witnessed their friendship. Their spirits remained woven together, a shining example of how love and loyalty can overcome even the toughest trials. And while their earthly journey had come to an end, their tale continued to inspire, reminding us all that the light of friendship never truly fades away.

I find this work of art incredibly beautiful and touching at the same time! You can feel this deep connection between the two on site. The story is quite sad and yet nice that the two had each other. I think it's good that stories like this are part of the curriculum in other countries. This monument/sculpture is so magical!

For those who are into flemish novels or asian anime, this is a sculpture of Nello the small orphan and his beloved dog patrasche ! Both are interpreted as sleeping with the floor acting like the blanket making it one of the most unique statues i have seen ! Thumbs up 👍🏻 Statue made by Batist Vermeulen and is located right in front of the cathedral in central antwerp ! I was expecting it to be bigger though it is already big enough !

(Translated by Google) Nero and Patrasche suddenly appear in front of the Cathedral of Our Lady. I hadn't looked into it beforehand, so I wasn't expecting something like this, so I was very surprised. I don't know if you know Nero and Patrasche, but I was surprised to see so many people. Nero is not tolerable, but Patrache is a crocodile. Moreover, I was even more disappointed that the stone monument donated by Toyota was not found in the past. (Translated by Google) Speaking of Antwarp, Rubens! Speaking of Rubens, the story of the dog of Flanders! If you come to this town, which was the setting for the story of the dog of Flanders, you definitely want to visit here as well. If you revisit the final story of the dog of Flanders, you will be even more impressed. Whenever I come to Antwerp, I'm sure I'll go to the cathedral, where there's a picture of Rubens with a scorched Nero, and Nero finally sees his favorite Rubens and travels to Patrasche and heaven. Here is the figure sleeping peacefully. Sightseeing here is even more impressive when you visit here to immerse yourself in Nero's feelings at this time and follow the vestiges of Nero's last painting of Rubens at the cathedral. From the sad ending, it seems that this story was not introduced in Belgium. It seems that it became famous because many Japanese people visited it. It makes me more interested in this place in Antwerp when I think that it was so close to Japan through the story of the dog of Flanders. Nearby is the "Milk Market" street, where Nero and Patrasche allegedly carried milk daily. Here, after meeting Nero and Patrasche, if you follow the steps of Nero and Patrasche, you will be impressed again. Nero and Patrasche I wanted you to take a rest in peace.

From the moment I set my eyes on the statue of Nello and Patrasche in the charming city of Antwerp, I was deeply moved. This remarkable sculpture is not just a testament to artistic skill but also a poignant reminder of the timeless story of love and loyalty. Nestled in the heart of Antwerp, the statue captures the essence of the touching tale from “A Dog of Flanders,” a story that has resonated with many over the years. As I stood there, observing the intricate details of Nello and his loyal dog, Patrasche, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotions. The artist has masterfully encapsulated the bond between a boy and his dog. The expressions on their faces are a mix of serenity and melancholy, inviting passersby to pause and reflect on the depth of their story. It’s as if each detail in the statue, from the gentle draping of Nello’s clothes to the protective posture of Patrasche, speaks volumes of their journey and ultimate sacrifice. Located in a quaint spot, the statue also offers a moment of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s a perfect place for both locals and tourists to take a moment to appreciate the simpler yet profound aspects of life - love, loyalty, and friendship. Visiting the statue of Nello and Patrasche is more than just a sightseeing experience; it’s a journey through a range of emotions and a reminder of the unspoken bond we share with our faithful companions. I highly recommend everyone to visit this moving tribute. It’s a heartwarming encounter that will stay with you long after you’ve left.

Small beautiful statue of a man and his dog right in front of the cathedral. It's very small (about 4-8 feet in total) and has two signs nearby. Even though it's warm in spring/ summer, the statue remains cool since it's made of marble. Look up the history of the statue to enjoy the full context. And best to prevent children from climbing or dogs from peeing on it or it will ruin it. Overall lovely little thing and a good meet up point too. Plenty of restaurants, bars, cafe etc nearby and there's paid parking in Great Market (GroteMarkt) a short walk away which will accept major credit cards (including AmEx).

This statue is outside Antwerp's cathedral. The story is of a 19th-century boy, Nello, and his dog, Patrasche. Orphaned at just two years of age, Nello's impoverished grandfather, Jehan Daas, who lived in Antwerp, took him in.

Highly recommended visiting the center of Antwerpen. A special sculpture focusing on the delicate culture of Flanders. This statue dedicated to the story of a Flemish boy and his dog was relatively obscure in Belgium 🇧🇪, but a cult sensation in Japan. THE NOVELLA, A DOG OF FLANDERS was written by Ouida (pseudonym of English author Marie Louise de la Ramée) in 1872. It centered around the lives of Nello, a young orphan boy aspiring to be a painter, and his dog Patrasche. The story is not very famous in the region despite it being set in Antwerp, but was a big hit in Japan🇯🇵, Korea🇰🇷, and the Philippines🇵🇭. This popularity derived from an anime television series created during the 1970s that showcased the adventures of the boy and his dog. Enjoy 📸

(Translated by Google) After another day of rest, we decided to visit the monument known both in Belgium and abroad. Walking around the city in search of a monument, attention was drawn to a strange sculpture. The boy sleeps on the ground, or rather, huddled against the dog, as if hiding under the sidewalk. The sculpture is located in the square in front of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp. Let's briefly tell you the sad story, thanks to which this unusual sculpture appeared in front of the cathedral. This tragedy happened 100 years ago or more, back in the era of Rubens. A small boy, who was about five years old, lost his parents and lived with a blind grandfather and a dog. The dog fed the whole family, because it took the goods that the blind grandfather made to the market. And the boy was selling this product. And he really wanted to see the painting by Rubens, which was in Antwerp Cathedral. But the boy was not allowed there, because the entrance to the Antwerp Cathedral was paid, it was very expensive for the boy. And one day the blind grandfather died, and the boy was left alone with the dog. Then it was winter and they no longer had a place to live and no money to buy food. And then the boy came to the Antwerp Cathedral to warm himself, but he was not allowed inside. He lay down at the entrance to the cathedral, and the dog warmed him so that he would not freeze. But the boy still froze and died, and the dog also froze and died. And the next morning, going to the cathedral for Sunday service, the inhabitants of Antwerp found a dead little child hugging a dog. So they immortalized the memory of the boy and the dog in a statue under the asphalt at the entrance to the cathedral. We advise people who have visited Antwerp for the first time, be sure to visit the cathedral and touch both the boy and the dog. There you can sit in a cafe and enjoy brewed coffee. ☕️
