Second time staying here (2019 first time) and had once again a very pleasant experience! The rooms are clean, as well as the bathrooms. Bed is more than fine, too! I particularly liked that you can turn the heating on and off and that the window can open rather wide to adjust the room temperature to your liking. Be sure to bring a medium-sized (definitely not small!) lock so you can store your valuables in the locker. I accidentally brought one that was too small, my bad! Location is perfect. I had to be at 't MAS which was both easily accessible by foot or tram. It's super close to the big shopping street (Meir) as well as the Central Station (~7 min walk). The common spaces are big with places to chill, work, and a nice sized kitchen. The bar is cute, too, and frequently does happy hours if you're into that! Really, I wouldn't ever pick a different hostel when visiting Antwerp.

Wanted something in city center but at down to earth rates. Also wanted to relive the student days. What other place than a student hostel. Any student hostel, would give a 3*. Hence a 3* rating. Booked a private room instead of a dorm. Clean, relatively spacious. Shower also bigger compared to student hostel. Beds were too soft. Ample sockets for charging but there could have been more lights for the room size. Especially where the table and chair are, it's dark as no lamps or light in that spot. For a student hostel, it ticks all the box. They have a kitchen, reading area, snooker place and a dining area as well.

It is a very simple hotel room with all the amenities you need (except hairdryer). It is very central (5 min walk from the shopping street) and the view that we had from our room was surprisingly good as we could see the ferris wheel and the Cathedral too. At night this pink LED light below the window was turned on which gave the room a very cool look but it could also be blocked off by the blackout curtains which was nice. The check-in staff was also kind. The elevator could use a makeover though since it looked very run down but this is the only real comment for improvement that i have.

The best hostel ever been in. Welcomed by a wonderful check-in attendant. She was very informative and friendly. The room was immaculately clean. Stayed for 2 nights and our bathroom towels were changed the following morning. The room was cleaned and trash was taken out. We didn't have to turn in our used linens, unlike other hostels. Their breakfast was a superb! Friendly chef and staff. We were greeted by ARLENE who did not only showed us where breakfast was being served, but also prepared our coffee and utensils needed. She didn't have to do that, but made very easy for us. She was a wonderful staff and Ash is lucky to have her on their team! Thanks, Ms. ARLENE REYES, for providing us with Outstanding customer service!

I stayed there for a night and had a great time. Check in was easy and smooth (it was done on a machine outside), and the place was a 5 minute walk from the Flixbus stop. The room was comfortable and the bathroom area was nice and clean. I didn't use the kitchen facilities but they looked great, and I loved the common room- quiet, spacious, and well lit. Would definitely come back!

It’s well situated. After staying at another hostel I reviewed it is hard to recommend. The rooms are rather small. The bathroom is… functional, though the sink is in the bedroom. If you want to take your breakfast there you can buy a 8€ croissant with a coffee way too late in the morning. (Or cross the street there’s a food place selling amazing sausage rolls and cinnamon rolls). Alternatively there’s a communal kitchen. It’s a decent place for a night if you need a place close to the train station. Otherwise it’s pretty disappointing.

Terrible experience, incompetent management. In the dorm bathrooms, there was no hand soap, no hand towels or hand dryers. No hot water in the showers, freezing cold showers. The lockers were tiny, too small to fit a suitcase. No towel rental service. The worker at the desk was kind enough to give me a towel to use. But it's clear that management hadn't thought through the most basic needs of people staying in dorm beds and has no idea how to run a hostel. Very limited reception hours - 10am to 8pm?!? Centrally located, but the building faces a major street around the corner from a major plaza, so there's loud noise of vehicles and drunk people all night. At 30 Euro a night, expensive for a hostel. And where does that money go? Towards a shiny common room full of modern furniture... where nobody hangs out because it feels like a corporate lobby instead of a comfortable hostel environment. Towards a giant open-plan guest kitchen... where the sinks are full of dirty pots and pans because nobody is enforcing the "wash your own dishes" rule or cleaning up after people. Where they have signs about labeling your food in the fridge but didn't even think to provide any stickers or pens for labeling. Nice new looking facilities but little things kept breaking, like hooks coming off the wall or the lack of hot water. Instead of glossy facilities, spend your budget on hiring more staff so you can keep decent reception hours and enforce hostel rules, and on fixing and maintaining things

Great place. Great staff. Great location. I got a private room which was very clean. All the windows opened which was nice. I liked the fact that your key was your phone and you can use it any time. It also provided security since you needed it in the lift. Drawbacks: Can not check in until 15:00. Tiny bathroom. The big bed I had was actually 2 small beds pushed together and every night they would drift apart causing a sag in the middle. Not real problems though. There are also bunk beds if you want to go cheaper. They also have kitchens, laundry, locked storage room and a bar.

More or less did the job. Good kitchen, bar and facilities. Staff were nice enough. Dorm and bathroom a little cramped. Horrible pillow. No curtains on bunks for privacy. The whole place was lacking in atmosphere, but I think the time of year had something to do with this.

The best hostel I've ever been to. It is fully self-service, you can check in before your arrival by filling out the appropriate form and installing the application. Thanks to this, we do not need any key or wait unnecessarily for service. The room was clean and tidy. Each guest was provided with bedding, pillowcases, a sheet and a towel. Bathroom in very good condition. There is a lamp next to the bed, but unfortunately in my case there was no socket. The room also had lockers that could be locked with your own padlock.

Very nice hostel, clean room with friendly and helpful staffs. Great location, near the central train station and lots of buses and trams. Also great walking distance to many attractions including the shopping streets and all the places you have to see in the city. Highly recommended.

The worst hostel experience I've had so far. It was an 18 person room (where you expect a certain amount of noise) but not only did 3 people snore incredibly loudly, but it also smelled super bad and some people were very disrespectful. For example, lights were turned on, people talked loudly, no headphones were used,.... After a first phone call to get help with the situation, I had to argue with the service staff about the fact that you can't sleep in this room or even only stay in it like that. I was brushed off and eventually asked to come down to reception. I then took 4 other people who could not sleep with me (there were even more) and after long negotiations and inappropriate physical contact by the service staff we got another room, which is actually not habitable at the moment because of several broken things like a broken window and non-functioning light. Apart from that I can say that the room for six people has much better mattresses and beds. The beds were very loud and it would shake if someone moves or snored and the mattresses verse very old. The bathrooms in the big room were not very clean, smelled bad and the humidity could not get out because there was no fan. Also no Soap anywhere. I only recommend the hostel if you can sleep with all the smells and noises and have no demands on cleanliness and comfort. It took a lot of assertiveness and persistence to be taken seriously at all. Social life doesn't really exist and the kitchen you can use is super dirty. The washing machine they have is also really dirty and unpleasant to use.

!! READ THIS REVIEW FIRST !! This place is pretty good. There's a kitchen, there's a place to sleep, place to eat, etc. In terms of facilities, it kind of has everything. If you are staying in a private room, I'm sure this would be a lovely experience in city centre Antwerp. However, it may not be the case in the dorm. The cheapest dorm available is the 18 bed dorm, which isn't the most pleasant experience. I stayed there during August this year, so it was warm. Really warm. There is no AC, so with 18 people in the room it gets very hot through the night. Also, the beds have minimal privacy unlike some other hostels I've stayed in with curtains and things like that, so can be a bit difficult to change and sometimes just a little awkward. The other thing is the wifi doesn't really reach the room, so isn't ideal. If you aren't spending loads of time here in the room, I would recommend this pretty highly. It is city centre, the kitchen has everything EXCEPT an oven, but that can be kind of worked around. The staff are lovely and there is also a bar and pastries you can buy in the morning. I enjoyed my time here, as the people I met were friendly and the system in place worked well. Just, if you can afford it, get a private room 😉

When I checked in, there were someone's stuff in the room, which is not a problem I know it's a hostel but this person's stuff were all over the room, things which looked like trash - paper bags, dirty clothes on the floor on the common table it wasn't really pleasant. I went out to the city and when I came back the stuff were the same and bathroom smelled really bad, I asked at the reception if there is anything they can do with it and they put me to another room, the second room was nice and clean. So I am really glad how they solved the problem. I was content with my stay.

Friendly and accommodating staff at the entrance. Check-in was very pleasant. The room was clean and spacious. There was a bed, bathrobes, towels, shelves, ensuite bathroom, spacious desk, and shelves. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean, dry, and well-maintained. There was shampoo and shower gel. The Ash's location was perfect. It was a very short walk from lively streets with restaurants and bars and about a 10 minute walk from Antwerp central station.

The property is well located near the central station and the room was comfortable. The checkin and keys are via app, which we found a bit annoying for one night stay. The stay was good, beside the fact that we had an issue with bed bugs in our room. We had to checkout early and disinfect our belonging as soon as we got home. The staff was really helpful when we reported the issue, I almost believe that was not a recurrent issue. Anyway, this totally affected out experience.

Stayed in one of the private rooms - everything was great. Friendly service, smooth, easy check in and very spacious room. Location is in central Antwerp so very easy to get to all the big attractions, shopping and restaurants. Would definitely stay again.

The ASH exceeded expectations and is good value with full kitchen plus utensils, secure bike parking, laundry and cafe/bar. Excellent location close to the station and walking distance to city centre and restaurants. Thanks Thalia for the excellent service.

The 2 amazing staff on Friday night went above and beyond to make us feel welcome at the bar. They both spoke beautiful English and had such a friendly essence. We are so lucky to be staying here!

The place is SUPER well located (5 min from the station) and clean! The receptionist were super nice and helpful. There is a place to leave the luggage. Having a kitchen was really good and I will repeat If I'm back at the city.

Very nice hostel with clean rooms and a large, neat kitchen. A little detail is the sinks in the room that are very inconveniently sized, so you keep splashing water on the floor. The common area is practical to eat your cooked meal, but it's not a very cosy area. Adding some couches, board games and more ambient lighting will add to make it a better meeting place for (solo) travellers. The staff is super friendly and the location rather central. Would totally recommend!

Awesome experience, highly recommend the place for first timers. Beautiful and clean spaces, what I liked most was the fact that you could actually prepare your own meals in one of the shared kitchens!

  • 3/5 Angela Cristina P. 5 months ago on Google
Very noisy at night. You can hear basically everything happening in the corridor from your room. The people at the desk are very nice, the rooms are good, standard and clean. But if you are searching for a place to sleep well, that's not the case.

The Ash is a great hostel. The location is amazing, near the centre of the city, near the bus station (literally 4 min from FlixBus stop). Late arrival possible, since there is smart key system. The personnel is friendly and willing to help. The hall area is great, with a bar, tables with chargers, pool board, the rooms are clean and coincide with the pictures on the websites, the sheets were clean, the shower was warm, there was shower gel, hairdryer (the towels should be rented). A safe place, highly recommend👍🏼

All my expectations are met in the hostel. Clean all around & modern. Kind & helpful staff. The ground floor recreation area is great. There is a luggage deposit area at the basement. I like the location, close to everything. If there is flaw because nobody is perfect, it would be the low headroom of the bunk bed. But still all in all, deserves this five star.

  • 5/5 Marin “SayanMk” K. 6 months ago on Google
Absolutely fine place. Not sure why the negativity. The reception check in was a breeze, there is always someone there, working with the card is pretty easy, beds were very comfortable, bath was modern and having hot water at all times, it was clean and the location is at the very start of the main street. Meters away from the central station and Flixbus station. I would definitely keep it in my bookmarks.

The distance from the bus stop or any other tourist place was very less to this hostel. Awesome staff❤️ Room was ok, no curtains, no soap near the wash basin, toilet paper was almost over at one of the toilet. And putting your own pillow covers and everything is something i was not expecting.

  • 4/5 Victoria D. 7 months ago on Google
Lovely communal area & bar full of affordable Belgium beers. The cleaner was friendly and the beds were comfortable. Only complaint was the bathroom - no soap by the sink & no shelving to put towels and clothing on whilst in the shower.

  • 5/5 Gerhard Van H. 6 months ago on Google
I stayed in an enormous room, overlooking the street and plaza in front of the hotel. I LOVED it, and will be back. Super friendly staff at the bar. And you can almost not ask for a better location if you're visiting the university.

  • 4/5 alexffVII 4 months ago on Google
Conditions are ok, though the beds are very squicky, the hostel is well equipped technologically, however the checkout reminder at 9 AM that it is almost 11 and checkout time is anything but customer fruendly, feels like being pushed out the door. Small advice: change the automatic setting to 10 AM. The location is very good, 5 min walk to the central station.

  • 4/5 Kati T. 2 years ago on Google
For private room: Simple and clean room, separate private bathroom, great view from big windows -which can be opened. A lifesaver in the summer, because there's no air-conditioning and it's HOT. Warning for light sleepers: this is a youth hostel, hence expect people loudly talking in the hallways or an ambulance on the busy street beneath you at 2am. Otherwise central location, close to the station and the city centre, not to mention the shopping street is around the corner. Big bonus: great price for Central Antwerp.

  • 4/5 Tania Camelia T. 2 years ago on Google
Nice place to stay for youth. Well situated (near to the center) with clean and comfortable rooms. The shared space also is very sympatic and includes a kitchen with microwave ovens and dishes.

  • 4/5 Romain F. 2 years ago on Google
the building is clean and modern, the rooms are good unfortunately it is really too hot inside of the rooms on summer nights, as you can only just open one window a little bit. but that was the only bad point

If you up to deal with drunk people around 3am with no respect this is the place for you ! Girls be out of this place , definitely not a safe place for you

The room was clean and very good to price, no tv but it is fine if you just sleep in the hotel, very nice location to the center Elvator did not work and our room was in sixth floor so it is like a punishment at the end of the day 😅 they did not seem to fix it at all, they deal with the elevator thing as a fixed issue they have!

  • 3/5 Татьяна . 2 years ago on Google
The room was clean The location is quite good - on the border of the city centrum, close to attractions The kitchen has a very little amount of appliances, not even for a small breakfast for two. All 10 plates were dirty, we found only two pans, etc. Personally for me one of the main reasons for booking a room in hostel is the existence of kitchen, and here I was not able to use it at all. The room is very stuffy, because you cannot open the window wide The room is said to be soundproof - maybe the walls are, but the door is not and you can hear people slamming doors in the coridor at night. Kitchen terrace is said to be closed after 7PM or so, but actually some people were speaking and laughing loudly in the yard till the very late. Just a note - the sink is in the room, not in the bathroom

Clean twin bedroom, super friendly service. For a quick one-night stay, late night check-in and early leave it was a great and affordable stay!

  • 5/5 Daniel Z. 1 year ago on Google
I slept one night in a 18 bed dorm. Even though there was a lot of people in one room it felt spacious and wasn't noisy. There was a great bike garage where I could safely store my bike overnight and a big kitchen area with 4 cooking stations. I found that there seemed to be a low amount of pots and pans available. I also liked that there was a book exchange bookshelf available. The service was great and the staff was really friendly. The hostel was really clean and the lounge areas were nice and cosy. The check-out process was quick and easy. One thing that confused me was that I was told that they didn't have any washing detergent available even though they have washing machines that you can use. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it.

Excellent location, simple check in and out, great room (large windows facing the street, comfortable bed), thoughtfully done interiors for budget travellers ( I had a double room for one night). A cool hangout zone on the ground floor is great for heating up some water, grabbing a quick meal (stove, microwave) or just chilling. There is also a bar open till 10 pm, with happy hours bw 5-7 pm. Only negative: No fan/AC, In summers the room gets really warm, you have to sleep with the windows open which ruins the whole ‘soundproofed’ concept.

  • 4/5 Huyen Huong N. 2 years ago on Google
A hotel quite close to the Central Station. The facilities were okay, yet I wish they provided hand soap (there were only 2 small bottles of shampoo and shower gel).

  • 2/5 Ivonne M. 2 years ago on Google
The service was nice, it's perfectly located near the Central Station and the city center, rooms were clean. However, for what they offer, the price seems unreasonable. The bed situation in a private room was atrocious. Probably very old thin matresses, not comfortable at all. Also, the beds don't face the door, quite uncomforting to have your back to the door direction when in an unknown place.

  • 4/5 Cezar S. 2 years ago on Google
Nice hostel placed in a good location. We booked a private, which was quite large. The only downside was that at 1am, someone decided to smoke, and the fire alarm started annoying everyone for 20 minutes. The next day the elevator was still unusable.

  • 3/5 Laura P. 2 years ago on Google
The hostel is almost the cheapest you can get in Antwerp and close to the main station, which is convenient. But you check in with a machine. There are barely any workers and I guess that because of that, there was absolutely intolerable loud music until late in the night in the common areas. So if you want to sleep and don't want to party, don't go.

  • 5/5 Chris W. 2 years ago on Google
I've stayed at quite a lot of hostels around Europe and The ASH (especially for the price) has been one of the best I've stayed in - I've certainly never been anywhere with friendlier, more welcoming, or more helpful staff! If I came to Antwerp again I'd definitely stay at this hostel again!

  • 4/5 Alice L. 1 year ago on Google
Quite nice location! Not too far from the central station and the shopping area. I booked a room with private bathroom +double bed + window. Room size was ok but cozy. Staff were quite friendly

  • 4/5 Veronica R. 1 year ago on Google
Clean modern hostel with great facilities. The rooms are hot though, but luckily you can open the windows. Beds are very soft so I didn't sleep well.

Friendly reception with great service. The hostel was very popular. I visited over the pride weekend of 13-15 Aug. I booked two nights but I’ll have to spend the night in two different beds - most likely because the hostel is popular with groups. For this inconvenience, they offered me a free drink at the bar. I got a sprite in a bottle - refreshing in the summer heat! I could also leave my luggage with them for free, in between checking out of Bed 1 and checking into Bed 2. The dormitory was pretty comfortable. I had to put on my own linen for the bed. It was warm in the summer but bearable with the small fan that someone brought The one downside is that I could only find 3 power points in the whole shared room of 6 pax, and 1 power point was right next to the door (and hence not useable). I recommend bringing an extension cord.

Nice hostel. Large kitchen facilities. Cosy garden. Cooperative staff

  • 4/5 __ 1 year ago on Google
I needed a bed for one night as part of longer trip. This hostel met my budget and expectations. My only complaint had to do with one of people in the room refusing to turn his light off late into the night. This is not the hostels fault but what can happen when you stay in the hostel.

  • 2/5 Marta W. 1 year ago on Google
Hostel by its self is an really nice place. Very nice staff and nice facility. But the stay was quite unpleasant, people being extremely loud on the corridors all night made it impossible to sleep.

Very nice and centric, the room is very big and tidy. It has a private bathroom and a kitchen on the bottom floor so that you can cook. The kitchen was not clean though.

It's in central of Antwerp and everything is so close to you. Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. You can leave your bag in the luggage room after checking out or before checking in but it's your own responsibility.

I recently stayed at the hostel and overall had a positive experience. The location was great, as it was within walking distance to many popular tourist attractions and restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful, always willing to provide recommendations and assistance. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The dormitory-style rooms were a bit cramped, but to be expected in a hostel setting. The shared bathrooms were also clean and had enough showers and toilets for the number of guests. The common areas were comfortable and had plenty of seating options. The hostel also offered a variety of activities, such as walking tours and movie nights, which was a nice touch. Overall, I would recommend the hostel to budget-minded travelers looking for a convenient and comfortable place to stay.

anti Asian place, did not enjoy staying there. Employees encourage racial slurs and I personally would not recommend this place to anyone of East or South-Asian descent.

Very affordable and extremely central hotel. Simple room which is all you need, unless you plan to spend your days in your room. Modern system for accessing the hotel via your phone if you want. A bar with a happy hour. 👌🏼 You’re about 5 minutes walk from the train station and less to the main shopping street. Everything is within a very convenient walk which is ideal for exploring the city.
