A must visit when you are in Brussels. Beautiful building, amazing collection of artwork! You can easily spend a whole day wandering around. Staff were friendly and helpful. Entrance is free on the first Wednesday of the month! The old masters collection is simply amazing. Lockers and drinking water available.

An extraordinary mixture of old and new masters. One wing is dedicated to the works of Rubens, the greatest Flemish artist bar none. A must visit when you are in Antwerp. I visited the museum as part of the annual Museum Night.

Spectacular museum with an arriving collection of old masters and other art. It is impossible to see it all in one day, you just make a few visits. We came for the Breugels and saw so much more. Dutch Masters from the centuries past, just excellent!

This museum is huge! Your basic ticket gets you entry here and the early 20th century museum in the basement levels, but there's also options for up to the 7 museums in the complex. This one has lots of art from 500ish years ago, some masterpieces and some just really strange. We quickly saw everything in an hour, but the audio tour would def add a lot of time with how much art there is

During my time in Brussels, the museum of Fine Arts was the best museum of all the museums in the city. They have a very large collection of mainly Dutch painters from the 16th and 17th century. The room in which the show a detailed analysis of Brugel's painting was really nice.

This was a fantastic museum. It was great to see up close things that before I only saw in books. The process of getting in and out of the museum was quick despite the security checkpoint. I went early in the morning so there was less pressure than later. I would suggest you make this your first stop in the morning to avoid the lines. This was a great experience. I would like to return again because the was just so much to see. Recommended

The royal museum of fine arts is one of the most massive museum buildings I've seen. It features a huge variety of arts in many categories. When I visited, there were extensive exhibits of the old masters and many famous artists from Belgium. There is everything from paintings, sketches, furniture, statues, carvings, sculptures and much more. The same building also houses the famous Magritte museum and is a must visit for any art lover. It's recommended that you have a lot of time on your hands as this building is so large that you can spend the majority of the day trying to see it all.

Brussels richest art spot. It is an institution split in 3 museums, so make sure you have enough time to enjoy the huge collection. It can get very busy especially in summer. Tip: The entrance to these 3 museums is free every first Wednesday afternoon of each month.

The least enjoyable museum experience I've ever had - utter disappointment! The entry is pretty cheap, but you'll know why when you get here. First of all, has no one taught these people how to hang paintings? Good luck trying to see any of the paintings properly - the rooms are all dark and the lights right above the paintings cause so much glare that a good part of each painting will be not visible. Secondly, the staff are some of the least friendly museum staff I've ever encountered. Just a bizarre and unwelcoming museum experience.

Well curated, with interesting use of space and good story telling. The museum contains some engaging works and a good smattering of the famous. Certainly worth a visit. Look out for what temporary exhibitions are on, as these add a bonus, and are often comprehensive. If staying a couple of days buy a Brussels Card, as this offers a good deal.

Beautiful building, a good range of works of art, most of them Belgian or Dutch. Mostly paintings, but also a few sculptures (two by Rodin) and some nouveau art pieces too. The ticket is 10€, and you have to leave your bag/backpack in a locker, so be prepared for that. It was not too crowded, and there is a balanced mix of different types of art, painting, sculptures, and some modern art items, which you may or may not find interesting. Would recommend if you have time while in Brussels, but don’t make it your top priority. As a note, the building itself is beautiful and can be considered a work of art on its own.

Seven flowers of art, from Medieval to Nova days. Plus temporary collections (usually 2 - 3 months). There is presented an amazing collection of the old Flemish masters, like Bosch, Bruegel and Wan Eyck. The museum contains 4 separate exhibition, you can buy a ticket for one exhibition, or for all of them. Be ready to spend bout 2-3 hour to see all pictures. As a separate part of the museum, there is Rene Magritte collection. Try it , if you like surrealism.

When going to this museum, reserve a lot of time. It took me more than 3 hours to visit the two exhibitions, but you can certainly spend more time here. Very good collections of paintings and Art Nouveau - especially beautiful furniture and lamps.

Surprisingly complete and large museum. When people told me that It takes lots of time to visit I doubted but it took us more than 4 hours to only visit the old masters and the Magritte museums. Bruegel’s and Bosch’s paintings are the best of the old masters collection. Simply amazing. I recommend picking the audioguide.

Magritte has his own space in this great museum and only this exhibition is already worth while the visit. Vast collection of old masters and always most interesting temporary exhibition. At this moment a retrospective on the cubism period of Pablo Picasso. Free lockers ( bring a piece of one euro though...) or free cloackroom.

Buy a combined ticket for 3 of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium for 15 euro and visit the same day the Oldmasters Museum, the Magritte Museum and the Fin-de-Siècle Museum. Must see paintings, spend at least 2 hours for Magritte and another 2 or 3 for the Oldmasters. The Oldmasters Museum has an extensive collection of European paintings, sculptures and drawings from the 15th to the 18th centuries. The bulk of the collection is formed around Flemish painting, presented in chronological order. For example, there are valuable panels by the Flemish Primitives (including Bruegel, Rogier van der Weyden, Robert Campin (the Master of Flémalle), Hieronymus Bosch, Anthony van Dyck, and Jacob Jordaens). The museum is also proud of its "Rubens Room", which houses more than twenty paintings by the artist. The painting Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, long-attributed to Bruegel, is located there and forms the subject of W. H. Auden's famous poem Musée des Beaux Arts, named after the museum. Located in the heart of the city this is the great place to be on a rainy day!

(Translated by Google) Very pleasant visit. We visited on the Grandes Maitres where we enjoyed the part dedicated to Bruegel. However, I would point out that certain elements of the maintenance of the building must be weighed. How is it possible that the plasters and wall panel of a royal museum are in such a condition? It's not everywhere, but a concern in a few places. The latter removes its attractiveness.

Beautiful architecture, well presented artworks and reasonable price (€10). The museum was not crowded when we visited on a Sunday afternoon. The temporary Picasso exhibition was too expensive (€15 when bought together with the museum exhibition) and doesn’t have much content.

Beautiful museum but the collections get repetitive after a while. It’s a lot of the same religious renaissance art over and over. They have Death of Marat in a side room on the second floor. I was shocked. That was really a treat to see. You can see the whole museum in 2 or 3 hours which I think is nice. It means you want get too tired to do other activities. Large gift shop but the person working there was very upset I interrupted his reading time to purchase a magnet lol.

This place is stunning - mostly the space. We found the Magritte museum a little more exciting in terms of exhibitions, but the Royal Museum had the wow effect. It was a lot of repetition though: a lot of Catholic and classic art.

I had an incredibly enjoyable experience at this museum, but I must admit, its sheer size caught me off guard. With over 7 expansive floors to explore, I quickly realized that dedicating a minimum of 3 hours to fully appreciate everything on display was necessary. As enthusiastic as I was, after about 2 hours, fatigue started to set in, and I had to breeze through some collections, missing out on examining them closely. Nevertheless, the Magritte area stood out as an absolute highlight, captivating me with its mesmerizing exhibits.

I've only seen the Old Masters, but I'd like to see everything if I could. You can choose which part of the exhibition you want to see, because there are several of them, the museum is large. The Old Masters is a very good exhibition because you can see, for example, masterpieces by Bosch, Rubens, Memling and Bruegel. There are lots of people on Sunday, and of course a lot paintings.

The most important museum in the city that you must visit if you are in Brussels but which alone is not worth the trip so to speak. To visit this museum well it takes some time. Ideal for lovers of Flemish art, well maintained and organised, it hosts the permanent Magritte exhibition in an adjacent building connected from the inside. At the entrance there is the cloakroom area where you can leave your backpack and clothes for free, possibility of having wheelchairs/walkers. Audio guides at a cost of €4, it's a shame that they aren't available in all European languages and above all they aren't well synchronized with the works on display. The museum building itself is very beautiful, the architecture is imposing and the atrium leaves you speechless. The bathrooms are on the ground floor but I found them not very clean. Easily accessible by public transport. Of note is the room with Rubens' paintings and the collection of Pieter Bruegel.

I have visited this museum a number of times, to see the very good collection of Flemish Primitive Painters and Rubens, in the permanent collections; as well as a few of the temporary exhibits of which two stand out clearly: Chagall and the most recent Salvador Dalí-Picasso exhibits. In every instance, I have chosen a guided visit. Guided visits deepen my appreciation of the painters and their works of art ... even repeat visits.

I really appreciated the talent of the actor who masterfully interpreted fables of Jean de la Fontaine. He created links between different works of art and fables. It seemed great to me to learn about paintings and sculptures by looking at them from a different angle. I learned a lot about de la Fontaine, too. So I now want to know more about this author who intelligently used art to say sometimes harsh things about human nature. A big thank you for this extraordinary literary walk (there will be two more walks in August, August 20 and 30, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.; price 10 euro - you have to buy a ticket for Collections on site) AMAZING paintings, amazing stories. The direction is doing its very best to make one pay as much as possible. The room dedicated to Rubens' large-format paintings, paintings by El Bosco, temporary exhibitions (this month there is the great photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto with his latest work ... impressive) and the art rooms of the late nineteenth and early of the XX are some of the jewels of this impressive museum. My favorite: the room with the paintings of Jaques Luois David, with Marat's death included. It takes time, a detailed visit of the ten floors of the museum can take you four or five hours. With over 20.000 drawings, sculptures and paintings from Flemish Primitives to the present, The Royal Museum provides the best overview of Belgian art. The magnificent building by Alphonse Balat was funded by King Leopold II. A must-visit to grasp the Belgian artistic heritage and identity. The Magritte Museum is connected with the Royal Museum, and boasts the richest collection of paintings by René Magritte.

Superb museum! It’s huge. Couldn’t do all of it at the time we went as they close at 4 so tip is to go early. We saw the Margaritte exhibition. Very interesting to see the love between the couples and their work as artists. We got a 2 for 1 ticket as we had used Eurostar to travel. We were not even aware we could get a discount. So one to note. Great art, good history to learn, staff super polite but they were quite rigid just before 4 to close and shut down rooms. But I enjoyed the entire experience. The art exhibitions were across 3 floors starting from the 3rd floor and making your way down. Definitely worth going to for art lovers.

The audio guide for the exhibits on the ground floor didn’t work at all, and on the first level it did but with such dull descriptions that I wonder if it’s worth taking at all (4 euros). There are a lot of exhibits, mostly paintings, and with corona style sightseeing (for each room there is a limited number of visitors to 5 to 10 people) it is difficult to see everything, it takes time ... hence the three stars

(Translated by Google) Yesterday the exhibition "be modern" and visited the rest of the museum. Visited the old masters several times. There is a great lack of information in the "be modern" section. The works cover a whole century but are haphazardly (or so it seems) linked together, there is no system in them. Perhaps there is a system, but the lack of explanatory panels makes it wrong. The halls with old masters are insufficiently lit. I understand the building is old, but there is so much more that could be done with adequate lighting. Now everything looks dull, old-fashioned and gloomy. I also note that the KMSK does not participate in the group of museums that are affiliated with Museumpass. This is also a missed opportunity. They themselves may note that parts of the museum can be visited for free on the first Wednesday of the month (I believe), but it remains a pity that they do not want to enjoy more visitors who have a museum pass. In short: "be modern" is not really worth the relocation because insufficient time and effort was put into it.

I learned many things thanks to Rene Magritte's exhibition, most important of which is that virtually all his famous paintings are located somewhere other than his eponymous museum (the irony!). You still get a nicely curated chronological display of his other works and memorabilia. The gentleman at the ticket booth by the origami was kinda rude though, maybe having a bad day, but it's kinda scary when you're a tourist and clueless.

Too many sections split up in different area, without proper information given at the ticket vending machine. I end up getting ticket that does not fits my need, and also waste tons of time and money going back and forth the hall to get the right one. The guy is so impolite that he keeps threatening me that they will not refund me if I get the wrong ticket without actually helping me figure out what is the ticket that I need. But still, lots of great stuff to see here, just gotta be patient

If you're in Brussels and are an art lover, definitely pay a visit! The museum is quite extensive, but I didn't find it overwhelming. I went to see the Old Masters Museum, and I spent the whole afternoon here just because I love viewing art, but you can go at a quicker pace 😉 The interior is nice and spacious, and the staff is friendly. The gift shop offers a good variety of souvenirs as well. If you visit in the colder months, I recommend wearing enough clothes because the temperature is relatively low to keep the art in good condition. I will definitely visit again!

Complete and amazing art collections. It’s like several collections in one place. Very very old art pieces. You could easily spend two days there to appreciate all the art. The only thing I saw somewhat different from other museums is that most art pieces don’t have an explanation next to them. It’s mostly the name of the artists and dates

  • 5/5 Michele A. 1 year ago on Google
It definitely worth a visit if you are on Bruxelles for some days. It has a very wide collection of paintings spanning from the old masters of the Flemish Reinassance and the subsequent counter-reformation baroque, to fin de siecle and early '900s artists. Although the visit path could be (in my opinion) be better organized, this museum offers a complete overview of the art evolution over the last half of millennium. If you visit in summer, consider to bring with you a jacket, because the air conditioning is set to "artic" and after a while the cold cannot be ignored; unfortunately this could ruin the otherwise very pleasant experience!

I was expecting a lot. But I was still wowed. The size of the musuem is not too big compared to other European big cities, but the quality of artwork is truly staggering. Any fans of Flemish art, from the renaissance to reubens late works will be super satisfied. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of Hieronymus Bosch works, although a copy they have is pretty impressive. The main draw, of course, is the Bruegel Family works, which did not disappoint! The ticket prices were super cheap for the quality of works and size, just 3€ for students!

The museum has three parts: the old masters museum, the fin-de-siècle museum (1868-1914) and the Magritte museum. It demands your constant attention and it's the perfect place to learn about Netherlandish art from the last 600 years. The staff was friendly and helped in any way they could while talking in many languages, even English. Fantastic experience, but beware, you'll need to take your time and take breaks.

Museum with a very large selection of paintings. The museum is very large so allow lots of time for viewing. Unfortunately at the time of this review, the cafe was still closed and had not reopened since closing during Covid.

very benelux focused museum. split into two sections: belgium classics and international, it seems like both places have a focus on the region. lockers cost 1 euro, amount which is returned. they have a machine that changes 5 euros into coins. wardrobe for free. including umbrellas. entrance 10 euro and 15 if you choose the magritte collection. p.s. their temporary exposition is focused on ukraine art.

Visited the Old Masters and Magritte museums. The OM collection is extraordinary, with important works from Van Eyck, Claissens, Van Der Weyden and the very best of Peter Brueghel the Elder. The Magritte museum makes up in volume what it lacks in quality. Much of his best work is elsewhere, but this collection has a lot of early and commercial work.
