Start from the last floor to discover the original Manneken-Pis. This museum has more than 7.000 pieces to discover the history of Brussels. As Brussels resident, I loved it. It’s nice to see paintings of the old Brussels. For tourists, I recommend to visit this museum only if you have spare time. The visit takes around 1h30/2h. The entrance is 10 euros for adults and 4 euros for students and kids. Brussels has an incredible story but I don’t think this exposition helps the discovery in an easy and user friendly way. A lot to improve in the journey of the visit to the museum. I recommend to start from the last floor where you learn about the history of the city. Then, go down to ground floor where there are the less interesting pottery and the statues from the old city.

Three level museum with lots of cool art, architecture and history. I really like the statues and things from olden Belgian times. It’s semi hidden in the Grand Place but you can find it if you look closely. Would recommended you come check it out!

If you want to know a ton about the history of Brussels and it's architecture in just about an hour, plus see the actual Mannekin Pis statue, visit this museum! Easy to walk through and see art, pottery, furniture and maps that describe the various eras of the city and who rules when and how. It's really cool it's using the legit original building as well.

This museum is unbelievably cool, including the building itself. It’s free with the Brussels Card - something I cannot recommend enough if you’re visiting the city for a couple days, as you can also add on an all-inclusive transit option for fairly cheap. It really gave me a greater appreciation for the city after learning more of its fascinating history.

Great museum to learn about the history of Brussels and the town square! The building is really nice and feels vintage wine it is! The collections are nice and the displayed statues from the fifteenth century are really mesmerizing! They also have the original mannikan-pis statue. The visit is definitely worth it

The museum focuses on the history of the city and all yhe important incidents throughout the years, especially the ones that are not talked about a lot. You can expect to spend about an hour or two, depending on how much you intend to read in detail about all the information.

In the XVI century the dukes of Brabant lived here and the building was called the royal. The building was reconstructed several times, the house got its current neo-Gothic appearance in 1873 according to drawings of the 16th century. Can't fault the museum. This was the last thing we visited while in Brussels while using the Brussels City Card. The architecture of the building alone is amazing, but the history of the building, Grand Place and the city in general is so rich. The museum provided us with an insight into the history of Brussels, about attacks on the city, famous artwork and sculptures and if course, the original Mannequin Pis is encased here. It was a great experience, shame we were so rushed with our own time and couldn't take everything in. Unfortunately the view of the building was partially blocked by a pop up stage :(

Very beautiful, outstandingly European, and one of the most clicked places of Belgium. Highly recommended to visit during mid - August, (the assumption of Mary - 15 August) as the empty square in the decorated with flowers and some stunning light shows are organised in the evening.

The museum’s main focus was on the early modern period, with some medieval history thrown in too. There were many interesting paintings and other works of art. Most notably this museum houses the original weathervane from the Town Hall opposite. There is good wifi through which visitors are able to access a complementary audio or visual guide

Quite a good little museum with lots of historical information and artifacts about Brussels. Not much to keep the kids interested, but it was still one of our favourite places we visited in Brussels. Relatively cheap to enter and there were free lockers to put bags so that you didn't have to carry them along the museum. The mystery is over 3 levels.

The Brussels City Museam, a Gothic style architectural wonder, was built in 1887 at the Grand Place in Brussels, Belgium. In 1936, the building was designated a historic site and in 1998 it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the rest of the Grand Place. The museum is devoted to the history of Brussels fine and applied arts, the origin and development of the city, the history of the people of Brussels and the dressing room of that quintessentially Brussels symbol, Manneken-Pis! I would highly recommend a visit here. There are lots of other beautiful places to visit and spend time around the Museum. Give yourself atleast half a day if not a full day.

(Translated by Google) It is a beautiful building and looks large from the outside, but what is shown is not what one expects. There is plenty of medieval, baroque and renaissance art material, but few explanations about the city, its demographic growth, racial integration, the EU theme, or the never-resolved language issue, etc. The icing on the cake is seeing the original Maniken Piss (top floor) and that really is a kitschy experience worth the walk. Now, compared to other city museums (the one in NY, London Amsterdam ..), this one leaves much to be desired because it does not include new technologies or anything that makes the experience more interactive.

(Translated by Google) Moving to a new apartment in the imagination of everyone is associated with the transportation of furniture, which often can not be brought in elevators, even trucks, and then the loaders have to pay extra for lifting your household treasure stairs. In Brussels, things are lifted to the apartment by special cranes through windows or balconies. Many houses do not have elevators or they are so small that they can barely fit two people. So you have no choice. A special car with a crane and loaders can be ordered through the district hall. Such services cost 80 euros per hour. At the time you ordered the faucet, the police block the sidewalk from which furniture will be lifted to your window. The carriage, which moves with things, makes loud shrill sounds, but all the neighbors endure it. After all, they were also once new settlers.

(Translated by Google) Het Broodhuis, Brussels City Museum or Maison du Roi has several names because it also has a rich history. This beautiful building on the Grand Place in Brussels provides an overview of the activities and folklore of the city in the near past. The current building dates from the late 19th century and was designed by Victor Jamaer. It is protected and UNESCO world heritage. The Dutch name 'Broodhuis' dates from the 13th century when a wooden construction stood here where bread was sold. In 1405 the wooden hangar was replaced by stone and was given the name 's Hertogenhuys. In 1695 it was destroyed by bombardment by the French and only temporarily restored due to lack of money. In 1811 the building even passed into private hands and was used for the storage of horse feed. At the end of the 19th century it was demolished and rebuilt in the current neo-Gothic style. The museum is well worth a visit. Lots to see. And also some details from the construction of the town hall.

Fantastic place to visit with great atmosphere in the square and lively ambience all days but especially in the evenings when there’s music or concert. There’s some renovations work in progress that may restrict the view in one corner of the square but the charm is still there. A must visit place while in Brussels.

Gorgeous building filled with historical facts about Brussels. Definitely use the audio guide, it's available in English and gives lots of in depth information about the items you're looking at. This building also holds the original MannekenPis statue, the one in display in the city is a copy to protect the original from further damage. I very much enjoyed my visit here.

A very unjustly overlooked museum! Most tourists to Brussels stand in awe facing the central square's magnificent town hall and then move on to Manneken Piss. More should turn around and dare enter the excellent City Museum within the walls of the "King's House". Indeed, it will give the patient visitor with a taste of how the city evolved over time, from the early settlements along the river Senne (near the present Halles St-Géry) until the modern pedestrianisation of the central boulevard. Personally, it's the intermediate periods which I found most interesting, like for example the exposition detailing how Louis 14, the French sun-king, decided to bomb Brussels in 1695 "just for the lolz". Besides that, the building itself is a treasure worth of admiration. Rebuilt in the late 1800's to match its initial 16th century form (with some bonuses), it breathes the spirit of the mighty emperor Charles 5, born in Gent and destined to rule over an empire upon which the sun never set. The real sun-king! :-) Don't miss the beautiful tainted-glass windows along the inner staircase which display the armories of the various provinces in his dominion, including of course the tiny province of Brussels! Check out my IG accounts @vincentdegreve and @usheadedeast for more Belgian and international reviews

Sitting in the center of the Grand Place, this museum leaves all hustle and bustle outside and provides a cool and serene atmosphere. With numerous artifacts, painting, sculptures, and tapestries, the museum tells the rich history of the city and the nation. I specifically enjoyed the large model displaying the City of Brussels in the 13th century. It really shows the life and landscape 800+ years back. The museum has the original Manneken Pis statue and some interesting stories behind it. There is a VR game to bring you back to the night when the city of Brussels was bombarded by the French troops. The building itself is beautiful with architectural charm. The entrance fee is included in the Brussels Card. If you don’t have a Brussels Card, a single entry ticket also enables you to go to the nearby Manneken Pis costumes museum. Well worth the visit.

One of the good city museum!! a lot of maps and explanations, multilingual and the building itself is attraction enough. Besides the uprising of brussels one, besides other stuff, also learns s lot about the city bombardement of 1695, the manneken pis and sees the former original statue living on top of hotel de ville.

A collection of images and artefacts that tell the story of the city of Brussels with an emphasis on the history and renovation of the Grand Place. My favorites were the Tapestries and the gilded Altarpiece. The building itself is noteworthy as an example of 19th century Gothic revival architecture.

In the period we went, the discount ticket was 2 Euros and the normal ticket was 4 Euros. You need to reserve at least 1 hour to visit this place. The ideal time is 1.5-2 hours. Especially the paintings depicting the burning of Brussels are very striking. You can visit the GardeRobe MannekenPis museum free of charge with the ticket you bought while visiting here. In this museum, different clothes that are dressed in Manneken Pis are on display. (Original) Gerçek Manneken Pis heykelinin ve birçok görülmeye değer eserin bulunduğu müze. The museum is very well located, the building itself is part of the city history. Show the key elements of the city through out the ages. Should have been easier to understand how the city changed along the years, it has some maps but it's kinda of confusing. Well worth the price!

(Translated by Google) Unfriendly staff, we went with a 24-hour card from Brussels and one of the employees at the entrance discussed that it was "expired" in a very bad way, and we had bought it that same day. If it was not for his partner we did not enter. The signage is not in the groin: you have to grab some cards that are in other languages but it is very uncomfortable .. Small and dirty bathroom was. It doesn't matter what exhibition they have, because the building itself is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, inside and out an amazing experience. Pay attention to the details and buy the postcards/book markers!

Great museum that explains how Brussels was made from mediavel age. It's also the original maneken piss. There's an audio guide you can listen for free on your cell phone, so be sure to have you headphones handy.

If you want to learn more about Brussels and the folklore then have a look at the City of Brussels museum, over two floors it will start at the early settlements to today, I suggest this is more of an rainy day activity unless you have an urge to know more about Brussels, having said that it is a on interesting visit.

There is no unifying theme or organization to this museum. It is in a beautiful and historic building, but the artifacts don't measure up to the space they are in. There is a hodge-podge of items. There is a uninformative display of Leopold I, with nothing of substance indicated, and a little further along are glass display domes with stuffed bats. How are they related? The placards are in French and German(?) and no English, but an app can be downloaded to explain what you are seeing. The app, however, is not synchronized to the displays. Some are explained and others aren't. There are several numbers on displays, bit they don't match. The app. On the plus side, there is a free coat rack and lockers are only one EUR, which you get back when you are done. I wish I had not wasted my time on this museum.

It's an eye treat for history lovers. There is a lot to consume about the history of Brussels city. You can easily trace back to the hundreds of years of historical events. Changes and renovations over the period of time including taxtile art and crockeries.

Fantastic place in the heart of city to visit with great atmosphere in the square and lively ambience all days but especially in the evenings when there’s music or concert - it will be lively moments. There’s some renovations work in progress that may restrict the view in one corner of the square but the charm is still there. A must visit place while in Brussels. History of Brussels city and how it evolved. Also real Manneken Pis kept.

Nice place, quite small museum but with a good overview of the expansion of the city of Brussels. The thematic rooms have however only a couple of pieces in exhibition, be it beautiful ones.
