Initially, we were hesitant to visit the museum given the low ratings, but because we love potatoes and fries, thought it would be fun to pop in. It was also only 8€ I believe which is a great price! We got an audio guide, and learned a ton about the history of the potatoes. It was really interesting learning about how they came to Europe from Peru, different methods of preparing potatoes, different types of potatoes, and how the Belgian fry came to be. Really interesting learning about why people call them French fries too. All in all it was a super informative visit and I learned a lot. As someone who doesn’t usually like museums, this one was captivating to me and I wish I had more time! I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re ever in Brugge for a history lesson and a good time!

It's a little bit confused to go upstairs and downstairs to explore the museum but is funny.also the elevator is not working so is unfriendly for People with walking difficulties. The french fries is not tasty so good and i saw someone of the staff to sniffing his nose in front of the food. Also is closing early in the evening so you should be harry if you want to eat something there.

The Frietmuseum in Bruges offers an interesting insight into the world of fries, but falls short of higher expectations. The historical journey of potatoes to fries is engaging, though the overall museum experience feels somewhat limited. The variety of exhibits could be expanded, and the audio guide, while informative, lacks depth. The on-site café serves decent fries, but the menu options are limited. For tourists, it's a quick visit rather than a full-day attraction. Conveniently located, it's worth popping in if you're a fries enthusiast, but don't expect an extensive exploration of the subject.

As you expect from a museum, it’s one of those place that require a lot of attention. If you don’t really want to read or listen, then it might not be fun for you. For me it’s rather enjoyable and informative. You’ll get to see a lot of history before the potatoes from Peru transform into the fries we know today! You’ll also get to see all the machines associated with making the fries throughout its history! It’s really interesting if you have the time.

Fun place to learn about the history of potato, and fries. The museum provides many interesting stories about fries. Also very informative on the sauces for fries. Also it’s cool to have a fries museum in a building that can be traced back to 15 century.

It’s a great experience to see and know more about potatoes 🥔 and how Bruges become famous and popular on it. Inside you’ll see many types of it and the old tools they was using it plus there is a restaurant will cost you 8€ Note You have to book a visit one person 7€

The museum itself is nice but make sure not to buy any fries from the restaurant downstairs. The fries taste like meat and fish. I’m pretty sure they fry everything at the same oil. The fries taste very bad. Thats what ruined the visit for me otherwise I would’ve given the museum itself 5 stars

Brilliant and quirky museum of French fries, how potatoes were brought over to Europe and fries throughout history. Love the interactive audio device that guided you around which were set to your chosen language. Great for children and adults, plus you get to sample some friets at the end! Loved it! We also got a combo ticket to the Choco-Story chocolate museum as well for the following day at a discount. Great idea, as we had planned to go to both anyway! Loved it.

Initially I didnt expect so much from this museum. I thought there would be only Informations and history about frying fries. But they offered more than that. I knew and learnt different kind of potatos from different continents and their origins. Also they have entertainment area for kids with games of shooting the potato beetles and karaoke. The restaurant is a bit pricey though but you can get a recipe of belgian fries there. Perfect for a family trip with kids. Have some fun.

A must visit when coming to Brugge. The history of the potatoe from early beginnings to the modern day is fascinating to learn. Eating a portion of frittes at the end of the tour was very welcome and so very delicious 😋

While in Bruges, you need to see this. Gives you an insight of the origins of the potato and the Belgian fries and why it is an institution. The little restaurant where you can buy fries and other dishes was OK. Couldn't understand why the fries weren't as good as I thought they were supposed to be though.

The museum was very crowded and narrow what made it hard to stand at one place and listen to the audio guide. You basically get "pushed" through the museum. It's also a small exhibition, I expected more for the price. You learn a lot about potatoes, but not so much about fries. In the basement of the museum is a fries restaurant but you still have to pay if you want to eat something there.

An off-beat museum in Brugge elevating knowledge about the humble potato and (Belgian) fries. The museum is situated close to the Market but can be easily missed with its nondescript entrance. Highly recommended for a visit to know about the origin of potatoes, varieties and some unusual facts about fries.

What a great place. Who knew there was so much to the humble potato. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip there and the fries at the end were gorgeous, even if there was a school trip having lunch at the same time 😂😂

From V&A in London to Deutches Museum in Munich, and all museums in between - this is the most fun you will ever have in a museum. We went in because it was raining. We stayed for hours, learning stuff from the cultivation of potatoes, the history of kitchen equipment (for potatoes), to representation of fried potatoes in pop culture! And of course, we ate Belgian fries in cafeteria downstairs. If you wonder why I don't call them "French fries" - visit the museum. As a chocoholic, I am still laughing that I preferred this museum to chocolate museum across the street (we could visit it for free with our Frietmuseum ticket!).

This was a pretty fun trip. I made such an egregious error when I went into the museum and made the comment "French" fries lol. I was so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. Definitely don't make that same mistake by calling it french fries. The museum actually goes into why and how fries became known as french fries to Americans. They also offer tour speakers in multiple languages so they make it pretty accessible for everyone. There are also some small games inside the museum but in total it should only take maybe an hour to get through everything. The cafe/restaurant offers fries at the end with Belgium beer which added a nice ending to the experience.

Unfortunately this museum is quite narrow, so when it gets crowded, it's difficult to see anything. Even with a relatively small group of people around me (one school class of uninterested teenagers and a handful of other tourists) it seemed very crammed, which at times made it difficult to reach the scanners for the audio tour. Despite this, it's a nice museum with a lot of history to discover. From the first documented usage of potatoes to modern fry production, they have everything. I do wish there was a bit more elaboration on different varieties of potatoes and what they're used for. Still, there's a lot to see, the audio tour is great, there are a lot of interactive elements, and downstairs they have a little restaurant that has really reasonable prices.

This was one of the museums that I didn't think would be this fun. If you love potatoes or fries, must go place. Would be nice if they gave free fries too🤤

This museum was incredible! We were surprised by how much information they had to share! It was well done both for adults as well as younger kids. They explained everything more in depth as well as more concise and fun for younger public. There was also some fun interactive moments. However there was so much information that even we didn’t know! I would definitely reccomand to visit! Plus the fries at the end are worth it!!!

Campy museum + random fry art = fun. This museum has a lot of content (fortunately there was an audio guide), a lot of potato facts, lots of art, and some pro-frites propaganda. There’s also a room with a singing potato and fry - 10/10! It was a fun museum to explore.

So so experience. Good to know such many varieties of potatoes in the world, the hardship of having it in the old times, some animations for kids. The most disturbing one for me is the fries sold in this museum is my least favourite fries ever. We couldnt even finish it. I saw others too!

Such a fun museum, interesting history of the chip. Also, very tasty and reasonably priced chips available in downstairs cafe at the end of the museum tour. We visited with children who loved the exhibitions, especially the game where you have to shoot the bugs to protect the potatoes. A special thanks to the very helpful staff who directed us to some other attractions when we asked for advice. Well worth a visit overall.

A good story of the potato to fries, a few interactive elements which the kids will enjoy plus a cafe in the basement. Staff were very friendly, gift shop was not huge but seemed to be reasonably priced.

Decent albeit small attraction about the history of potatoes and fries. Lots of interactive bits for the kids and an excellent (and inexpensive) chip shop at end of your visit. No sauces in the gift shop is a missed opportunity!

A fun but relatively light museum that does a good job of covering the history of the potato and its impact on Belgian culture but doesn't go deep enough to feel like more than a quick tourist stop. Signage is in multiple languages but I would still suggest getting the audio guide for the best information. Probably the best bit of the whole museum is the fry stand at the end that sells some truly excellent fries.

We decided to check out this museum since we had already been to Choco-Story museums in several other cities already. It was an ok experience. Our kids enjoyed the “scavenger hunt” for the prize machine at the end of the tour more than anything. Not something you “must” see, but can serve as a change of pace for the kiddos.

The museum is okay but the customer service for groups was weird at best. At the end of your tour there's a basement snackbar with 2 people working there. We came with a group of 18 and there was nobody present when we came down. When asking for food we were told that we could order a total of 4 portions of fries for all to try. Other than that placing an order was simply not possible. The menu was plastered everywhere with loads of options. With the size of our group it would have been impossible they said. Both employees stood there arms crossed while enjoyed some soft drinks. Just when we were about to leave a group of about 20 people came down the stairs. They weren't together as one group so each one of them was allowed to order anything they wanted. Just a weird situation all round.

Great place. Entertaining for kids as they can play a game while you are walking. Correct stickers have to be placed on a game sheet. I would expect frites degustation to be included in the price. Instead you got only 40c discount . You have to pay 2,5€ plus 90cent for sauce per person.

This frietmuseum is a delightful museum devoted to the humble potato fries. Starting off with the interesting history of how this potato was discovered and there are well over 400 varieties worldwide. As the trip progresses, the museum becomes more interactive with games and multimedia. There are antique chip pressers and frying vats to observe. You finish your visit in the crypt with a well-deserved portion of fries and mayonaise ;-) This museum is partly housed in an old church that adds character to the museum as a whole. Families are bound to enjoy a few hours in this lovely place ;-)

Nice museum in Bruge explaining the History of French Fries. I was a bit sceptical at first as their is not much about french fries, but was surprised once I visited. The museum expains the history of potatoes, how it was imported from the americas and how french fries was invented in Belgium along with how it has been portayed in pop culture. At the end of the museum, there is a friterie where u can have order french fries. Recommended especialy if you are visiting with small kids.

Great museum to learn about the history of the potato and 🍟. The offer a discount for students which is really nice. Also you get a discount on a cone of fries in their restaurant. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Bruges and have some spare time!

This place significantly beat my expectations. You can get a free audio guide but everything is also written down, allowing you to go at your own pace. A lot of the early part of the museum is dedicated to the history of the potato. It's not a large place, can be done in c60 mins or less. You can get frites there, but you have to pay. I strongly recommend!

I went for my sister who is addicted to potatoes- she believes it is a separate food group. Surprised to learn so much history of the humble potato on the first floor, the 2nd floor had historical advertisements, cartoons, and food preperation tools. I had no idea that one of the carts annual rent is upwards of 100,000€ per year. That is a lot of fries to sell. Of course there was a full section of the never ending battle between Ketchup vs Mayonnaise camps. It was a good museum and I’m glad I spent the time there!

We bought a combiticket for this museum and the chocolate one. They're both quite interesting museums and my personal favourite was this one. You learn a lot about the potato and the history of fries. There is also a basement at the end of the tour where you can sit down and eat fries. They were some pretty good fries!

  • 5/5 Monica B. 2 years ago on Google
Interactive, fun museum. Definitely suprised! Really interesting historical information, botanical information, art section, child-friendly section and even a fun game you can choose to play. At the end you can buy great fries and snacks. Definitely worth a visit!
