The park close to Antwerp-Berchem is very beautiful with lot of trails to walk, ample of water bodies, ruins of a very old fort and most remarkably one of the largest ecologist swimming pool which is just amazing ! In summer it is a total joy to swim there . Due to summer it can get crowded and hence the authorities decide the time slot and sends 40 ( exact number not known) people’s batch at a time and once they return regulated time slot others should await their turn. Showers, toilettera , locker facilities are available . Pool is guarded by guards/rescue squad . Surrounding of pool are green and open air concept makes it beautiful . This pool is free except that you pay 2 euro for a locker which I think is refundable like normal locker system . I did not use locker .

(Translated by Google) The oldest mention of "Boekenberg" castle dates back to the mid-16th century. A deed of sale of January 13, 1555 speaks of the purchase of "a play house of playsantie, hove, bogaerde, etc." by Jiëronymus van den Manacker. He is one of the many Antwerp notables who, from the 16th century, sought refuge in a so-called pleasure castle outside the city gates, in the green area around Antwerp. The 16th-century pleasure castle of Boekenberg is successively inhabited by different families. In 1749 Maria Theresia Carolina Knijff (1705-1755), daughter of the then Antwerp mayor Jacobus Gerardus Knijff, inherits the pleasure garden and appurtenances through her first husband, Jan Carlo van Bosschaert (..- 1749). Maria Theresia developed into a builder and had the pleasure garden converted into the rococo castle as it still stands today. The castle's design is attributable to Jan Peter van Baurscheit de Jonge, or his cousin, Engelbert Baets. Over the centuries, the castle acquires different owners, who refurbish or rebuild the castle to their taste. In the middle of the 20th century, the castle became a home for many elderly people as a rest and care home.

Wonderful little park, packed with interesting features, including a public open air lido, large play park, Flow cafe and in the summer season a small Natural History museum.

The park has quite a few features, comprising the bottom of what was once a Chinese pagoda (folly), a ruin tower with it's bridge and a cute white iron bridge, and paths. There's a pond for swimming (!) and a contemporary architecture. It is clearly an English style garden/park, but it is also overgrown in parts and there were a lot of insects everywhere, probably especially because I was there after a muddy couple of days. It just seemed to me that it could be better looked after.

This place is fantastic. People, children, insects & loads of spiders (don't worry they're hidden & not aggressive) if you're looking to escape Antwerp's perpetual traffic noise, then this could be a good refuge. Although its not silent here (insects, waterfalls) it is a VERY peaceful place.

Such a great park close by! The 1.5km lap is great for running, a lot more pleasant than on the street, and it can easily be extended to 4.2km by taking in the loop of the nearby Boelaerpark. Take care in the evening though, as the ground is pretty uneven in places and not everywhere is lit up. The outdoor pool is amazing as well (the longest in Western Europe), great for a swim on warm days (or cold days if that's your thing! 😄)

Opening times of the swimming lake are good if you don't work 9-5. Every time I try to go is packed with people, I wish there were more occasions to use the lake (time wise, early or late hours even with a small contribution). Walking around the park is always nice of course.

(Translated by Google) The ruin tower and the cave complex with ice cellar have been preserved and are home to the Natural History Museum Boekenberg and a speleological foundation. Today the park is maintained as a mini-forest, which means that nature in this park can take its course within certain limits because only necessary management takes place. Regarding the pool: Well kept, free, makes sure everyone can swim while not overloading the natural cleaning system. The water is a bit green but that's normal since it is all natural. Tight swimming wear is mandatory.

Great to go on a hot summer day. The outside pools are a great refreshment. The lifeguards are also really friendly and are always ready to help. Sometimes the water is really cold but that doesn't bother me too much.
