If you have a medical emergency, don't come here. If you urgently need medical attention, don't come here. If you want to be seen by a doctor within a fair amount of time, don't come here. If you want to be treated as a patient and with decency, respect and compassion, DO NOT COME HERE!!! Now if you want to sit in a waiting room full of sicklypatients for 4-5+ hours while the nurses and doctors hold lengthy conversations, BY ALL MEANS! This is the place for you! Take a look at the proof - is this what our tax dollars pay for? "Medical Professionals" who don't know how to conduct themselves as such? "Nurses" who are more concerned about holding personal conversations instead of assisting ill patient's? Observe exhibit A.

Getting in touch with someone useful/helpful is an exhausting challenge at this hospital. I've been transfered 7 times and 5 out of the 7 different departments I've encountered rude/dismissive representatives. Its unfortunate and if I could tell others to NEVER deal with this hospital I would. Getting a call back is a big NO. I've left voice-mail and I'm still waiting for that call back. Fortunately, I'm very proactive and I've been calling everyday. If I could give this hospital phone/service/representatives zero stars I would. You guys need to work on patience and communication skills. If you absolutely are not happy helping or working in this position then please remove yourself if you're unable to be respectful and patient.

This hospital basically killed my 2 and a half year old son. The treatment here sucks in the E.R. If someone has a chronic illness, they should not be in the waiting area for hours nor waiting on transport for hours. My son was giving the wrong meds and went into cardiac arrest. Donot bring your children here. Go across to kings county hospital.

Utterly ridiculous! Why do I have to be transferred 10 times before I get the correct department, then I have to leave a message. From prior experience I know I will have to call back. In the middle of talking the operator just transfers me over without saying a word. I was just discharged and have a follow up appointment with internal medicine but I have no idea who my doctor is. I'm from out of town, this is disturbing

The nurses are so rude, especially the Caribbean staffs need to go back to nursing school to take people skills to learn how to speak and respect people.

If I can give Zero stars I would!! Do not go to this hospital! My dad has been there a week for a Stroke, we still haven't gotten answers, they never answer the phones or answer your questions. It's like, they don't know their patients. 3 MRI's later, now they tell us he might have Brain cancer. I TOLD THEM OFF!! Once he's discharged, we're going straight to NY Presbyterian. DISGUSTING, NO ONS CARES!

I'd give 0 stars if I could but- Pleeeeeease Don't come here... Despite being fully insured and having strong ties to both NYU and NYP- My ex-wife took our daughter here b/c it was nearby... The student doctors that run this place had my daughter in the pediatric ER for 7 hours without IV fluids b/c they claim they didn't have a RN... My umbrella was stolen by either staff or neighboring patient's family members in the same peds ER... Extremely short staff... Aaaand they discharged my daughter 2 days premature with her lab value extremely high...

Horrible! The doctor who was assigned to me, was no show. I had 4 tests done, plus blood tests and I had not heard any results yet. Patients need to know what is going on with their tests, we are anxious to know. 3 days in the hospital, cannot take a shower, because there is NONE. Most staff unprofessional. My doctor is sending "interns" to do their jobs to see me, they are very young, have no idea what they doing. My doctor did not want to be with the patients. WHY ARE YOU A DOCTOR, THEN?

Nothing great, nothing bad. All hospitals have rude staff, all hospitals have sleeping staff, all hospitals have a wait time. I prefer Downstate than the hospital that's across the street(KC)

GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!!! I promise you will regret coming to this hospital for care! Nurses ASLEEP at the station! They almost killed my grandmother she refused food for over 2weeks, was coughing up blood and is suffering from dementia yet they refused to feed her intravenously or even attempt to find out what caused the bleeding! She wasn’t even receiving fluids! Shut this place down

I have had excellent experiences at Downstate including 2 cancer surgeries. I totally trust their doctors to do the right thing. I have found the staff there polite and helpful with positive attitudes and I have been treated at some of the best health facilities.

My visit here was awful to say the least… most concerning they seem to have no record of me paying my bill despite showing them the receipt to show proof of payment. Has anyone else had billing issues here? I try to get in contact with billing department and it seems to go nowhere and they’re extremely rude and incompetent of answering a question.

Staff is careless (from the Nurse’s aid to attending physicians). It is clear that the staff does not communicate with each other, resulting in delayed care (and efficient care). Today, the theatrics were at an all time high due to higher ups visiting the hospital after so many malpractice allegations/ letting patients die. There is a current lawsuit pending alleging that some doctors committed several ethical violations by performing their duties negligently and/or under drug/alcohol influence.

I WISH I COULD PUT NO STAR I was a worker at Downstate hospital, dealing with health issues. One day, I ended up in the emergency room and they were so rude & dismissive. Showing no real human decency or care for my chronic illness. After being at this hospital for a few hours I was traumatized & utterly devastated on how many people at this hospital did nothing to help save my life. I ran out of there as fast as I could and stopped working there good riddance…

I had the unfortunate experience of seeing Dr. Rupali Saraiya for a BACTERIAL sinus infection something i am prone to, and have been treated for many times. I was told that sinus infections are viral and not bacterial which is untrue and i knew, sinus infections can be EITHER viral or bacterial, yet this doctor refused to treat me with antibiotics, told me i was wrong about how previously when i have had sinus infections that i have needed antibiotics for because they did not go away on their own when i tried at home treatment, she then told me i was wrong that the antibiotics didn’t help me in the past…. So apparently she is also psychic and could tell what type of infection i previously had had and how it got better… this doctor then ENDED our telehealth appointment because i was insistent on an antibiotic for my BACTERIAL infection, which by the way i did need 2 weeks of antibiotics and a round of steroids to get rid of… I ended up with a way worse infection with bleeding due to waiting to get on antibiotics…
