Iconic gate to photograph. Come for pictures and enjoy the specular art. It's not too far and a nice walk from other nearby attractions. There were also people blowing bubbles in the air to help you make your photos look beautiful.

From one side it’s just a huge, spectacular gate by a road. On the other you have loads of touristy stuff to see and do. This was the busiest of any of the tourist locations in Berlin but it wasn’t too busy (October visit).

I've visited this historical and monumental gate in Berlin for a couple time. It still amazes me of how it reflects peace and unification of a great nation separated by a war. The view is amazing anytime you sit there, day, evening or night. Sometimes, while eating snacks, you can enjoy live music, or a demonstration...

Another historical site not to be forgotten. The Wall was right there as well and there are the demarcation lines of the Wall that you would be able to see. Just be careful of those touts asking for assistance . It's a must visit attraction that you cannot miss 👍👍👍🙂

I had an amazing time here, beautiful views and serene vicinity. If you are a photographer then you are going to have a time of your life. The best time to visit is around evenings and the area is super busy because of tourists. But still worth the hype, see the pictures 📸 for that

The Brandenburg Tur Berlin is the most famous attraction of Berlin. The historical significance of this iconic gate is awe-inspiring. The guided tour provided insightful information about its rich history. The surrounding area is vibrant and perfect for taking in the city's atmosphere. The architecture is stunning, and it's a must-visit for anyone in Berlin. The only downside was the crowds, but it's a testament to its popularity. Overall, a memorable visit and a must-see landmark when in Berlin!

One of the more crowded landmarks to visit but certainly manageable. Grand and historic gate. There are some plaques and an information office to learn more about it and the significance of the plaza. Worth checking out as a tourist.

This is one of the most iconic monuments in Europe. This gate not only signifies the rich cultural and architectural excellence but rather it has a very important role in history. The Berlin wall that kept Germany divided into east and west wings during the cold war era, also kept the people divided. The Berlin wall also ran through the Brandenburger Gate until 1989. Now all the bullet holes and tears are repaired and it has been restored to its formed glory. We passed through the same gate through which Napoleon passed after the battle of Jena. It is a combination of beauty and power.

A beautiful place of course that everyone in Berlin interested in sightseeing should visit. There is a lot of beautiful sights around as well. We were there a short while after it was painted by activists, so our visit had a completely different dimension.

Brandenburg Place: Icon of Political Vibrancy in Berlin Brandenburg Place epitomizes Berlin's political pulse, hosting historic events and vibrant demonstrations. Flanked by iconic landmarks like the Reichstag, it's a symbol of democracy and activism. I think everyone who visits Berlin should come to Brandenburg gate. Awesome atmosphere and beautiful touristic attraction (especially at night) with a great history behind it. I'd recommend you to visit twice: in the nighttime and daytime, cause both times it has different atmosphere and view that is really worth seeing 😍

Like it or not, this is an iconic image of Berlin. The Gate now stands alone and is usually busy with tourists. It is lit up at night although I didn't see any information boards about the structure when we walked around it. Built in the late 18th century the Gate was influenced by the Acropolis and the four horse chariot on top of it echoes Roman and Byzantine sculpture. In the Cold War the gate was a border between the Russian and British zones. It's easy to get to and well signposted although also a focus of protests - when we were there the whole area was barricaded off for most of the weekend.

Touristic place in Berlin. It looks smaller in really life compare to what you can see in TV, and it should be more into the spotlight as it s an amazing construction. Mandatory stop in Berlin, especially the first time :) advise : remember to look up, the details are beautiful.

I recently visited the iconic Brandenburg Tor and was blown away by its beauty and historical significance. This stunning monument is a true symbol of Berlin and a must-see for anyone visiting the city. The intricate details of the architecture and design are truly breathtaking, and it's hard not to feel a sense of awe when standing before it. There's also plenty of space around the Tor to take a leisurely stroll or relax on a bench and take in the surrounding scenery. The area is very well-maintained and clean, with helpful signage and information about the monument's history. Whether you're a history buff, architecture enthusiast, or simply looking for a great photo opportunity, I highly recommend visiting Brandenburg Tor

My second time here, the first being in summer, and it's still a lovely sight to behold. Barring the sea of people that come and go, there's nothing spectacular besides the Gate. It is difficult to take pictures without having people in the background unless you're extra patient. There are many restaurants around and the German Parliament is like a 10-minutes walk away.

The S and U bahn train station is very nearby as well..Plenty of seats to have a rest as well..

Incredible monument that is much more intimidating and beautiful in person. A lot of history has passed through this gate and it’s easy to feel the weight of it when you’re there. It’s probably the most recognisable piece of Berlin and is naturally busy most of the day. You may find more space on Sunday afternoon or early in the morning.

In the time of Frederick William (1688), shortly after the Thirty Years' War and a century before the gate was constructed, Berlin was a small walled city within a star fort with several named gates: Spandauer Tor, St. Georgen Tor, Stralower Tor, Cöpenicker Tor, Neues Tor, and Leipziger Tor (see map). Relative peace, a policy of religious tolerance, and status as capital of the Kingdom of Prussia facilitated the growth of the city. The Berlin Customs Wall with its eighteen gates The Brandenburg Gate was not part of the old Berlin Fortress, but one of eighteen gates within the Berlin Customs Wall (German: Akzisemauer), erected in the 1730s, including the old fortified city and many of its then suburbs. The new gate was commissioned by Frederick William II of Prussia to represent peace and was originally named the Peace Gate (German: Friedenstor).[2] It was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans, the Court Superintendent of Buildings, and built between 1788 and 1791, replacing the earlier simple guardhouses which flanked the original gate in the Customs Wall. The gate consists of twelve Doric columns, six to each side, forming five passageways. Citizens were originally allowed to use only the outermost two on each side. Its design is based on the Propylaea, the gateway to the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, and is consistent with Berlin's history of architectural classicism (first, Baroque, and then neo-Palladian). The gate was the first element of a "new Athens on the River Spree" by architect Langhans.[3] Atop the gate is a Quadriga, a chariot drawn by four horses driven by Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, sculpted by Johann Gottfried Schadow. 19th and early 20th centuriesEdit The Brandenburg Gate has played different political roles in German history. After the 1806 Prussian defeat at the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt, Napoleon was the first to use the Brandenburg Gate for a triumphal procession,[4] and took its Quadriga to Paris.[5] After Napoleon's defeat in 1814 and the Prussian occupation of Paris by General Ernst von Pfuel, the Quadriga was restored to Berlin.[6] It was now redesigned by Karl Friedrich Schinkel for the new role of the Brandenburg Gate as a Prussian triumphal arch. The goddess, now definitely Victoria, was equipped with the Prussian eagle and Iron Cross on her lance with a wreath of oak leaves.[2] Quadriga on Brandenburg Gate in daylight The Quadriga faces east, as it did when it was originally installed in 1793. Only the royal family was allowed to pass through the central archway,[5] as well as members of the Pfuel family, from 1814 to 1919.[7][8] The Kaiser granted this honour to the family in gratitude to Ernst von Pfuel, who had overseen the return of the Quadriga to the top of the gate.[9] In addition, the central archway was also used by the coaches of ambassadors on the single occasion of their presenting their letters of credence to council. View over Pariser Platz, June 1945 Bernard Montgomery and Soviet Marshals Zhukov and Rokossovsky leave the Brandenburg Gate on 12 July 1945 after being decorated by Montgomery When the Nazis ascended to power, they used the gate as a party symbol. The gate survived World War II and was one of the damaged structures still standing in the Pariser Platz ruins in 1945 (another being the Academy of Fine Arts). The gate was badly damaged with holes in the columns from bullets and nearby explosions. One horse's head from the original quadriga survived, and is today kept in the collection of the Märkisches Museum. Cold WarEdit After Germany's surrender and the end of the war, the governments of East Berlin and West Berlin restored it in a joint effort. The holes were patched, but were visible for many years. The gate was located in the Soviet occupation zone, directly next to the border to the British occupation zone, which later became the border between East and West Berlin. Vehicles and pedestrians could travel freely through the gate until the day after construction began on the Berlin Wall on Barbed Wire Sunday, 13 August 1961. West Berli

The gate was built at the request of the King of Prussia. Inside the door are sculptures from the baroque period. The door was very glamorous. It is one of the must-see places in Berlin. I definitely recommend you to see it when the lights are on in the dark, because it looks more glorious because you have starbucks across the street and enjoy your coffee....

Brandenburg Tor in Berlin is an unforgettable symbol of unity and history. Its majestic neoclassical architecture and iconic presence captivated me. Located in Pariser Platz, it's a lively hub for exploring the city. The gate's historical significance, witnessing both division and reunification, adds to its allure. Don't miss this must-visit landmark, conveniently close to other attractions. Visit early morning or evening for a less crowded experience. Brandenburg Tor left me with a deeper appreciation for Berlin's rich past and its spirit of unity. Highly recommended!

Without a doubt, one of the greatest historical sites in Europe. Truly a majestic gate, with rich history. Seeing it restored to its former glory after the devastation it suffered during the Second World War is an unexplainable feeling. Historic site of Berlin, built by the King of Prussia to close the city of Berlin. There were other gates but this gave access to the main (and most beautiful) avenue in the city. Subsequently, after the Second World War, it was on the famous "death fringe", a region that anticipated entering the eastern side of Berlin. With the reunification of Germany, the surroundings were reconstituted giving place to hotels and embassies. A must for a visit to Berlin!

The gate faces one of Europe's most famous historic squares, Pariser Platz, with bank headquarters, the ultramodern French embassy, and the offices of the federal parliament. On the southern side, Berlin's sleek Academy of Arts, integrating the ruins of its historic predecessor, and the DZ Bank, designed by star architect Frank Gehry, stand next to the new American embassy, rebuilt on its prewar location and reopened on July 4, 2008. The legendary Hotel Adlon (now the Adlon Kempinski) looks on from its historic home at the southeast edge of the square. Once the pride of Prussian Berlin and the city's premier landmark, the Brandenburger Tor was left in a desolate no-man's-land when the Wall was built. Since the Wall's dismantling, the sandstone gateway has become the scene of the city's Unification Day and New Year's Eve parties. This is the sole remaining gate of 14 built by Carl Langhans in 1788–91, designed as a triumphal arch for King Frederick Wilhelm II. Its virile classical style pays tribute to Athens's Acropolis.

✅ 📸 Must see picture point! 🏛️😄🤳 The Brandenburg Gate was part of the old Berlin Customs Wall, build in the 1730s. On top of the gate is a chariot with four horses - driven by Victoria , the goddess of victory. She is equipped with the Prussian eagle and the Iron Cross on her lance. In 1806 Napoleon stole its quadriga and took it to Paris. Prussia restored it to Berlin in 1814. ☀️Today, along with the Straße des 17. Juni avenue, it is a beautiful location neighboring a huge park🌹and the Reichstag just a few minutes away. The surrounding Pariser Platz is also used for celebrations like New Year's Eve 🎇🎆 or the Football World Cup public viewing 🙆⚽🏆.

The structure is greatly lighten that it just looks marvelous. However the best suprise for me was that even tho there was a lot of people, you could easly find a spot in which while taking photo you will look as if you are there alone! I think its just perfect how people respected each other desire to take pictures. The crowd was huge but as you see it does not look like that. Also it wasnt like I had to wait for my turn to take a picture, I found the place right away. The Tor is marvelous and the conditions are great so I definitely recommend!

Iconic gate to photograph. Come for pictures and enjoy the specular art. It's not too far and a nice walk from other nearby attractions. There were also people blowing bubbles in the air to help you make your photos look beautiful.

One of the iconic photo spot on Munich it’s look beautiful plus there is so historic place. The place surrounding also look nice easy to go just just few steps from the Brandenburg metro station. We were there in the morning the place was not so crowded and when be back there again in the evening there were a lot people. So I Recommend to go in the morning to avoid crowded and get nice photo shoot.

Iconic landmark. Always busy with tourists, difficult to get a clear photo. Even at night the place is busy. Easy to get to whether walking and talking in other wonderful views or public transport. One must see landmark in Berlin and Germany.

Massive place. Loads of space to stand in front of it. Completely free. I'd recommend going in the day, but also passing by at night as well. It is a different atmosphere at each time. In the evening there were more street performers playing music. Also there were individuals throwing lights into the air which looked really good.

Looks very nice, monumental! There was lots of people there, but it actually wasn't so bad because everyone kept their distance (like 2 to 3 metres from each other).

Nice place, very clean, not many people (not like in front of Milan duomo for example), can enjoy pop songs played live for free 😸 Was interesting to see some peaceful demonstrations. I also went there on Sunday and could even sit on the bench and eat my lunch.

Of course no first visit, or even a second or third visit, will not include a sight of the Brandenburger Tor, epic sculpture, symbol of the division between west and east. It's an impressive construction, a real triumph arch, a proper city gate. And if you have enough of the tourist hustle and bustle, there is a room of silence at the gate, where one can experience only silence, and that in the middle of one of the busiest areas in Berlin. Cool stuff.

If you feel like you want to meditate on all the trauma this city readily presents to visitors, look for the non-denominational, chapel located in the right-side building as you look the bronze horses in their eyes.

The Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin's most important monuments – a landmark and symbol all in one with over two hundred years of history. A former symbol of the divided city, it drew visitors who used to climb an observation platform in order to get a glimpse of the world behind the Iron Curtain, on the other side of the barren "death-strip" which separated East from West Berlin, geographically and politically.

Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 1996, by UNESCO. The Cologne Cathedral is a majestic structure, its impact lives up to the 630 years that it took to be built from 1164 with the arrival of the relics of the 3 Magi from Milan to Cologne. The Brandenburg Gate, or Brandenburg Gate (in German: Brandenburger Tor), is an old city gate, rebuilt at the end of the 18th century as an arch of neoclassical triumph, and today one of Germany's best-known landmarks. It is located in the western part of Berlin's city center, at the intersection of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße, immediately west of Pariser Platz. One block to the north is the Reichstag Palace. The gate is the monumental entrance to Unter den Linden, the famous avenue of linden trees that previously led directly to the City Palace of the Prussian kings. Built in the neoclassical style in the Carl Gotthard Langhans project, it has twelve Doric columns in Greek style. Six on each side. There are five central spans through which five roads pass. On top of the arch is the "quadriga" (statue of the Greek goddess Irene - goddess of peace, in a chariot drawn by four horses). Its dimensions are: 26 m high, 11 m deep and 65 m wide. (seen from the front). It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of war and was built by Carl Gotthard Langhans between 1788 and 1791. Having suffered considerable damage in the Second World War, the Brandenburg Gate was completely restored between 2000 and 2002 by the Stiftung Denkmalschutz Berlin (Berlin Monuments Conservation Foundation). During Germany's postwar partition, the Gate was isolated and inaccessible immediately next to the Berlin Wall, and the area around the Gate stood out most prominently in the media coverage of the opening of the wall in 1989. Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a place for major historical events and is now considered a symbol of the tumultuous history of Europe and Germany, but also of European unity and peace.

Regardless of the thousands of people here taking pictures during the day time, i had great memories of this place. We accidentally ended up at the same place at night and there happened to be an unbelievable light show walking you through the history of Berlin. I was shocked by the sense of unity and power of love for the country reflected in the show. Respect.

Also, it was very clean, despite the amount of tourists around, which was a plus.

The pompous gate is an imitation of the Propylaea, the gateway to the Acropolis in Athens. Originally a peace gate, the Quadriga bore Eirene holding a laurel of peace. Things soon took a darker turn, Eirene mutating into the more aggressive Victoria, with an Iron Cross being stuffed into the laurel wreath as a military boast to the French. Nowadays droves of tourists shuffle around the gate taking selfies, while armed police stand by.

The Brandenburg Gate (German: Brandenburger Tor; [ˈbʁandn̩bʊɐ̯gɐ ˈtoːɐ̯]) is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II after the temporary restoration of order during the Batavian Revolution.[1] One of the best-known landmarks of Germany, it was built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, which used to be capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. It is located in the western part of the city centre of Berlin within Mitte, at the junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße, immediately west of the Pariser Platz. One block to the north stands the Reichstag building, which houses the German parliament (Bundestag). The gate is the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, a boulevard of linden trees which led directly to the royal City Palace of the Prussian monarchs. Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events and is today considered not only as a symbol of the tumultuous history of Europe and Germany, but also of European unity and peace. One of the top 10 beautifulliest place of berlin is this place

The Brandenburg Gate is the symbol of the city of Berlin and the gate bears the name of the state of Brandenburg that surrounds the state of Berlin and is located in Pariser Square. Its construction began in 1788 and ended in 1791, but part of it was destroyed in World War II, and then the destroyed part was rebuilt again. At its top was placed a "quadriga" that represents the Greek goddess Irene, goddess of Peace. It was ordered to be built by the King of Prussia, Frederick William II. Due to damage suffered during World War II, the Arc it was restored at the beginning of the current millennium. It is one of the most representative landmarks in unified Germany.

We climbed to the top of the Dom Tower in Utrecht. Also known as St. Martin's Cathedral, it is the highest cathedral tower in the Netherlands! A wonderful view from the top of this beautiful city. And as Alabama sang, "you see that mountain? One day I'm gonna' climb that Cathedral! All the way to the top! Oh my. It was mostly built by 1382 A.D. so is it great shape for being so old.

This gate, famous all over the world, its a must see place in Berlin. It was rebuilt lot of times and now is Imposing like it was during the past eras. From this you can reach almost every place in Berlin, by foot or by metro. One of the most famous monuments Berlin has, and the details on the architecture is quite pleasing to look at. Iconic and magnificent structure. You can’t miss this when in Berlin. Full of tourists any time of the day. It symbolises the Berlin’s cold war division into east and west. This is the only surviving gate of many neoclassical gates built in 18th century. Easily accessible from any part of Berlin by S+U trains. Worth visiting and strongly recommended.

  • 4/5 Eric J. 1 year ago on Google
The history is powerful and deep surrounding this iconic gate. Berlin: the story of a city is a great read for preparing to go and see the city of historic power. The square near the gate holds the American embassy, a star bucks, and a bunch of pickpockets, hustlers, and street performers working for a euro. The iconic buildings in the area have value in learning about prior to arrival too.

  • 5/5 Luis Javier O. 11 months ago on Google
Like the great gates of European cities, Brandenburg is the entrance to Berlin, with an imposing structure that has been maintained throughout history despite multiple attempts to conquer it. The building remains in perfect condition to this day and is undoubtedly one of the greatest attractions that the city has.

I don't think I can say anything that is so profound that it is new. I think we all know what this place represents in the course of human history, and standing here next to it is literally giving me the chills. Very nice to visit in the summer. The sun is warm, the place around feels festive. There were lots of tourist and it was generally fun to look around and enjoy the sites. I joined a few tours and the history is very interesting too.

This is a iconic landmark of Belin. This is the only city gate which is still standing. Old days you had to pay a toll to go across. The place is very busy and usually gets very crowded so the best time to visit here is early morning or late night.

Great to know the history of this gate though it's sad and a bit scary if you try to imagine what it was like in the past. But there was an event surrounding it at the time we were there so it felt quite festive.

It was a memorable visit to the Brandenburg Gate, with family. The historic place attracts a good number of visitors or tourists and it was a pleasant autumn morning with the changing colours of the leaves.

The Brandenburg Gate is a must for every visitor to Berlin. Hardly any other attraction features in as many tourist selfies as the large sandstone gate in the heart of the city. The Brandenburg Gate is one of the most important sights in Berlin. It plays a correspondingly large role on city tours and during events such as New Year's Eve or the "Festival of Lights".
