Been here a few times at various periods of the year, it is a very nice, cosy and warm place. The staff are very friendly and relaxed, when you go you will appreciate where they are. Has great local food and drinks, but I think hit chocolate is the way. On a good day you can sit outside and take in the view, with the sound of cow bells in the distance, just awesome. From the Ebenalp bahn terminal to the Berggasthaus is an uphill walk about 400 meters on a very narrow path. No cars.

One of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. The staff is kind, the food is delicious and it is very clean and comfortable. There is a lot of love and care put into this hotel by the family who run it and it is very special. Please note that you have to be in reasonably good shape and have the right hiking boots to get here as it is very steep and at times slippery. I will return as much as I can!

We were there in summer. The first room given to us was on the upper floor, which was very hot. The second room was better but still too hot to sleep in. We wanted to go outside because it was cooler, but the hotel was closed early. The family appeared unwelcoming, perhaps due to language barrier. The hotel is the most accessible in the area from the lift, but still a steep hike. Don't carry a lot of luggage with you.

Beautiful, fun little mountain house. We booked a private triple room for mid October. Highly recommend the Gluwhein and their Wild special for dinner. The room was quite chilly but they provided a heater that had no problem warming it up. Plenty of hiking options around and beautiful views! Thank you for the hospitality!

Took the cable car up here and enjoyed lunch at Berggasthaus Ebenalp, and it was a delightful experience. We had super clear conditions with stunning views of the surrounding mountains made for a breathtaking backdrop while dining. The food was hearty and delicious, perfectly complementing the alpine setting.

It was a little challenging to get to the Berggasthaus from the gondola station with 5 large luggage bags. We didn't plan correctly, and recommend leaving all unnecessary items at the gondola station. You also have to pay to use the shower as they use rain water.

I have been there for a quick and nice lunch on the terrasse. The restaurant is 10 minutes walk up the hill from the Ebenalp lift arrival. Big terrasse with great views on mountains and Appenzell countryside. The food was good and portions generous. Friendly waitress 👌 It’s also a guesthouse.

We enjoyed the most incredible New Year’s Eve here. This is a wonderful, family-run guesthouse with great food, warm atmosphere and stunning views. The rooms were comfortable and, even on new year, quiet. My one point of negative feedback was the allergen information could have been better — we had a friend with a dairy intolerance and it was hard to know what was available to her.

Amazing views, amazing dishes, surprises to see a hotel and restaurant so professional and many food choices, so clean. I would only expect to find hot black coffee and an instant noodle, boy am i wrong, this is a really good establishment, tried the local sausage with mac n cheese and an apple sauce? Taste weird when you combine it but its quite unique in a way alsi the price itself is very affordable

An amazing view!! We stayed overnight and got to experience a local Swiss band in the evening over dinner! The food was delicious, and the experience unforgettable! It is worth the extra effort to stay on the mountain overnight and experience the mountain, the sounds, the food, the culture!

We stayed last night the 26th of August 2024. We were really happy with the room and service. The guy that served us gave great tips for our hike. I would stay again.

We didn't stay at the Berggasthaus but we had lunch after our Wasserauen-Seealpsee-Altenalp-Schäfer-Ebenalp. Everything was delicious; generous portions and very reasonable prices! I would definitely go again! Some main dishes are not available between 2.30 and 5.30 pm.

Had a great lunch then walked down the mountain via the hotel in the mountainside that can be accessed from this one. Very steep terrain so need good boots NOT as two idiots wore, flip-flops!

First and last time there!! We decided to do a three day hike in Alpstein. We booked then two Berggasthaus and the second one was Ebenalp. I know there is a difference between Berggasthaus and Hütte, but as we had our little dog with us we had to stay in a Berggasthaus as in the Hütte it is difficult to have the possibility to keep the dog with you during sleeping. We were so tired about the entire day, having hike 800 m high and 1'600 m down i total..and we just want to have relax in a warm place. But unfortunately Berggasthaus Ebenalp seems to be more a Kindergarten than a place to rest, eat and relax. There were a lot of children shouting loud all the time. And during the night a group of people sing loud till 3 am. Moreover when in the morning I've told this to the young woman at the desk, she said only "sorry" but she made me pay full price. I was very upset! We could not sleep from 2 am to 5am and we had a lot to hike+3 hours driving to return back home. This is the first and last time we stay there!! Exiting the door I've really said "A MAI PIÙ!!" Location is perfect but rudeness of people is astonishing!!

S P E C T A C U L AR!! Be ready for some serious hiking and shine spectacular views. Listen to three view bells without seeing the cows. If toy like nature and hiking, THIS IS YOUR DREAM PLACE! Much better than expected food four such a remote place, reasonable prices. I just wish Iwould have been able to spend three night there!!!
