Wanted to give five stars because the experience is great but realistically it's 3.5/5. Love that they are dog friendly, informative and fun to walk around. The price is steep though, £30 for two adults is too much. Shame but worth the visit. Not sure we'd return at that price though!

A cool and interesting visitor experience unless you have accessible needs as it's over 3 floors with various separate buildings . It's basically an old jail so you can't really expect more access. Overall it's a great way to spend an hour if it's raining or to learn more about law & punishment from the mid 1500s to the late 19th Century.

Our first time and won't be our last. Not only a child friendly but a dog friendly visitor centre. We chose not to take the audio guide, but would definitely opt for that next time. The kids looked for stamps for their certificate and were fascinated with the history of each area. Great day out - will definitely be back.

Really enjoyed my visit. It's really enhanced by the staff in character and the follow along media you can access on your phone. Makes for a fun day out.

We went in to pass the time in between rain showers and was thoroughly impressed! Spent 2 hours in there and could've spent longer reading everything on offer... if it wasn't for the kids dragging me away! Staff were brilliant and very entertaining! Surprised and delighted!

Great experience. Lots of reading, but there is the option of an audio facility. Friendly staff and the Prison Warder and Matron were very informative.

I've had some free time, so decided to give this a go as we always pass by. I'm glad we did. Very informative and detailed with loads of mannequins that are just terrifying 😳 (Also a taxidermy dog, which is just horrible) but all in a good visit. The guides outside were really only there to direct and tell you the best order in which to tour the jail, I think the experience would be better if they were actually guiding the tour and narrating, Although, there is an audio tour available if you require it

A fascinating insight in to crime & punishment in the Argyll area around the 18th & 19th century. A very good audio guide accompanies the self guided tour, along with an authentic warder & prisoner to look out for! (Careful you don't get locked in the exercise yard)! The exhibition extendes up over 4 floors & there's some steep stairs to climb to the top, but it's certainly worth the effort!
