A small free-entry museum about the bank of Scotland. I enjoyed my short visit, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I visited because I wanted to see what £1mil in a glass case looks like - smaller than I expected. At the end there was a penny press to use for free which mentions the Olympics because they were one of the sponsors.

This museum is fantastic, 10/10 absolutely wonderful, one of the highlights of my trip. Not too crowded at all, the museum is free and totally worth going, you can get through it very quickly. There are some interactive displays and activities, I recommend trying to crack the safe (which will get you a cool prize!) and doing the life insurance calculation. I learned so much here!! Definitely helps if you have an interest in money and banking, but the whole thing gives interesting historical oversight. The staff is the kindest museum staff I have ever interacted with, so friendly and warm. The gift shop is also unbelievably well priced. If you have a free 30 mins to an hour, definitely check it out!! We played all the interactive games and had the best time. There is one where you pick your 18th century life insurance plan that is so awesome. there was a button to print it but we didnt think that was doing anything. We got to the counter at the gift shop and they had them printed and laid out for us to take!! We also played the crack the safe game and they gave us prizes!! I got a really cool booklet on the history of currency and paper money, it was so awesome, ill keep it forever.

The museum is about the history of the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Lloyds Banking Group and how they introduced money and security of money in Great Britain. If you are near it is certainly interesting to 1 million pounds in twenty pound notes!

A very good museum showing the history of money in Scotland tracing back to the beginnings of BoS and Halifax. Includes very good exhibits such as £1million note and £1million in £20 notes. Very educational for visitors of all ages.

Pretty small and over too fast but it's a nice building with toilets and it's all free. Staff are polite and helpful. You can see piles of bank notes, old coins and a few video screens showing the area though history. With a visit for free.

I recently attended a walking tour entitled ‘Adventures in Banking’. It was an excellent example of a well-led, well-researched and well-planned tour. I learned a lot. I’d highly recommend a visit to the Museum, or a tour. Thank you.

Not very big considering the size of the building but it's obviously still in use as a workplace too. Quite interesting though. The box with the million quid looks great. Wish it was mine.

A free-to-enter museum that exhibits the history of Bank of Scotland. See £1m up close. Very informative and you can take as many pictures as you wish. Lovely security staff, too, helped make our visit very enjoyable.

Had a really enjoyable hour - 1.5 hours in here on a rainy afternoon, reading about the history of Lloyd's Bank and the bank of Scotland. The exhibition is just right, not too short nor too long, and the amount of detail is just right not to make you get bored. The fact that admission is free makes it a steal and is recommended to anyone interested in history. There is a small gift shop here but no cafe or anything.

It was awesome. They even allowed us to make our own coin. The collection is quite nice, there is a lot of history there. And it's free admission. I'd totally recommend it as a must visit place in Edinburgh.

Another one of Edinburgh's great free attractions. Was lured in by the prospect of seeing £1m, but ended up seeing and learning a lot about the history of currency, which was really interesting.

Free to visit museum where you can see millions in cash- unfortunately all cancelled notes and behind a glass chamber.. Good place to know the history of money, minting, security etc. Don't miss a visit when in Edinburgh.

Brilliant small and free museum. Well worth a visit if you're in the vicinity. The museum itself you can go round within 30 minutes easily so don't base your whole day around it. However, it's rather impressive to see £1,000,000 in a container as well as can be fairly interesting to see how money is made.

  • 4/5 Lisa L. 4 years ago on Google
Actually more interesting than I thought it would be. I'd recommend it.

  • 5/5 Ciobanu C. 1 year ago on Google
I been there and I love it, because I like to collect coins and all sorts of notes ! I bought some notes from the shop after the visit! Really enjoyed it! Nice museum situated in the same building with the bank !

A quick tour museum detailing the history of Scottish currency and banking. There is a lot of written information but also pictures, drawings, and objects. There are some interactive features for children. The main perk is that it is free, so if you have some time to kill around the old town, you can have a look.

A great museum. The banking and currency history is very interesting. The kids loved it too. The kids loved seeing what a Million Pounds looked like. Staff is friendly, dress is casual and it's free admission.

A small museum on Bank of Scotland history, banking and money in general. Allow 1-2 hours max visit time. High quality collections. This is a safe for you to crack. It’s definitely worth a go. You get a free gift if you were successful. Free to visit. Highly recommend.

  • 5/5 Euforica L. 1 year ago on Google

A free walk-in museum. Highly recommended if you’re eager to know the history of money and finances in the UK. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the museum. Allow yourself a good 1 hour there and do try cracking the safe open. We received some cool postcards on doing so. The staff is friendly as well!

A hidden gem. A small, but fantastic museum with some fascinating things on show (including £1,000,000 in £20 notes; banking and bank advertising memorabilia, etc.). The staff couldn't have been more helpful. So glad I stumbled on this place.

Friendly staff in this cozy, tiny museum about money, which ironically doesn’t cost any money! Worth a quick visit if you’re passing by.

An interesting place to read about the history of Edinburgh and its banking system. Who knew that looking at £1,000,000 in cash would not be that exciting- something to do with London housing costs i expect... And the notes all had 'cancelled ' printed on them ?

  • 5/5 Mark H. 4 years ago on Google
