A truly spectacular structure. The best War Memorial I’ve seen in the county. Impressive is an understatement. Well worth the visit.

Actually, I enjoyed the place more than I had expected. During my studies in Architecture, I worked on a project that involved designing a memorial museum. The main objective of the project was to create a space that would seamlessly connect the past, present, and the hope for the future, which is exactly what I found inside. On another note, the entire area is huge, green and pretty. The rooftop area offers a splendid view of the downtown and occasionally you can catch a glimpse of an airplane flying by!

A beautiful tribute to the Australian Armed Forces. I walk around the shrine daily with my dog, before we walk around the botanical gardens. A peaceful place to watch the sunrise and view the hot air balloon’s that depart from Faulkner Park. Just a stunning shrine from the outside and informative and very interesting museum on the inside.

Only been to the outside but it is beautiful. It feels a bit like a mansion with a huge lawn. There was a good burning in a pit out front and the architecture, view of the city buildings, and well manicured lawn were all amazing.

A fantastic monument. Beautiful from the outside and inside. There is so much history that is showcased inside the memorial. Also, there is a balcony on top of the building.. where you can see a view of Melbourne city from north point and view south Melbourne from south side of the balcony. Also, They have cafeteria and toilets, and a gift shop. Also best part of it… it is completely free! (At the time of writing)

Shrine of remembrance is one of the historical monuments in Victoria. A great placement for it, amazing views all around, near to city. Nearby gardens are great for a picnic too. You can visit botanical garden which is a great place to be. You have ample of parking outside but please note it is paid till 6:30pm. However if you want to go inside you have to be there before 5pm and buy your tickets.

Shrine of Remembrance in the heart of Melbourne stands majestically as a bastion of freedom fought and won. Every Anzac, thousands gather here to honour fallen heroes. Thousands of protestors had also gathered to fight against tyranny during the Covid lockdowns. Many histories good and bad were made here.

Here’s a timeline to help you plan a dawn service visit next year. Arrived for the dawn service around 5am and there was already so many people there. Roads were closed. There were two big screens playing from before we arrived providing everyone at the top a view regardless of their vantage point but there seemed so many more people down the sides of the hill too which may have been limited viewing. The Welcome to Country was at 5:30 but the main service was 6. All over by 6:30. They opened the Shrine shortly after and ushered thousands of people through so quickly. We waited to last and was still through by 7:20. We then explored the extensive museum, crypt and surrounds. The museum is next level with knowledgeable passionate people sharing information dotted around the place. It had only very dim lighting and felt like a maze. You would spend hours in here if you wanted to read through and experience everything but we left before 9 for the parade. Note a RAAF plane flyover was at 11 and I also heard they were opening the balcony at 1pm.

Unfortunately I didn't take more photos! My eyes had to capture so much of this beautiful place. I'd definitely recommend this for a family day out. It's also good exercise if you like to walk. It's amazing to see these places of remembrance and how well they are kept. You also get to see stunning views of the city.

It's been more than 30 years since I visited the Shrine of Remeberance so it was like seeing everything for the first time. A very peaceful place to reflect and to take in the beauty of the Architecture and the thousands of artifacts from all the conflicts Australia has been in. It was also wonderful to see my Great Grand Fathers name in a book. The surrounding gardens are beautiful as well. It is well worth a visit, especially with the young so they can learn a little of the sacrifices that the men and woman have made for our country.

A unique museum experience on the inside and incredible views on the top. The building is beautifully designed, with dark halls and vast stone slabs. The educational content inside about Australian military history is interesting.

🌇🏛 Majestic, magnificent, The Shrine of Remembrance is not just a building; it's a profound symbol of reverence, an embodiment of history, and a testament to the indomitable human spirit. As a visitor, I was left awestruck by the sheer magnitude of emotions and respect that this monumental structure evokes. From the moment I stepped onto the beautifully landscaped grounds, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of solemnity and reflection. The surrounding gardens, meticulously maintained, provide a peaceful setting to contemplate the sacrifices made by countless men and women who served their country. The view of the Melbourne city skyline from the forecourt is breathtaking and serves as a poignant reminder of the contrast between the peaceful present and the turbulent past. The Shrine itself is a masterpiece of architecture. Its classical design, inspired by ancient Greek and Egyptian styles, exudes grandeur and timelessness. The bronze doors, adorned with poignant quotes and emblems, set the tone for what lies inside. The interior is equally impressive, with its stunning marble floors, towering columns, and the iconic Eternal Flame that never falters, symbolizing eternal remembrance for the fallen. What makes the Shrine truly exceptional is its educational aspect. The Galleries of Remembrance are a treasure trove of knowledge, meticulously curated to provide a comprehensive understanding of Australia's military history. Interactive exhibits, artifacts, and multimedia displays bring the stories of veterans and their sacrifices to life. It's a place where one can truly connect with the past and gain a deeper appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy today. The staff at the Shrine are dedicated and knowledgeable, always ready to assist visitors and answer questions. Their passion for preserving the memory of those who served is evident, and they play a crucial role in making the experience meaningful. I highly recommend taking one of the guided tours offered here. The guides are well-versed in history and offer profound insights into the significance of this place. Hearing personal stories of bravery and sacrifice from the guides added a deeply human touch to my visit. Visiting the Shrine of Remembrance is not just a tourist activity; it's a moral obligation, a chance to pay homage to the heroes who gave their all for our freedom. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a place of reflection, this monument will leave an indelible mark on your soul. It's a place where gratitude, respect, and reverence converge, reminding us of the importance of never forgetting the sacrifices made for our Australia. In conclusion, the Shrine of Remembrance is a solemn and awe-inspiring tribute to the brave souls who served their country. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of remembrance and gratitude. If you have the opportunity, do visit this hallowed ground; it's an experience that will leave you forever changed. Also, the Now Or Never show was simply astounding!

The shrine of remembrance offers a wonderful war museum as well as stunning views over the botanic garden. There’s an eternal flame in the WWII forecourt. There’s no entrance fee but a donation is recommended. There’s a gift shop, cafe and restrooms in the visitors center. Street parking only.

Yes, this is a must see if you are visiting Melbourne, or perhaps you live in Melbourne and not had the chance to visit. A truly iconic place to remember war heroes and also one of the top places for photographers. Take great photos, videos, panoramas. Walk right up the steps to take great scenery pictures of the CBD. This place is simple to reach, if you are within tram access, take the tram down St. Kilda road and stop at the Shrine of Remembrance tram stop. I would heartily recommend a visit to this wonderful place.

The Shrine of Remembrance is a truly awe-inspiring place. It is a war memorial that commemorates the sacrifices of all Australians who have served in wars and conflicts. The Shrine is located on a hilltop overlooking Melbourne, and it offers stunning views of the city. The Shrine is a beautiful building, made of white marble and granite. It is adorned with sculptures, mosaics, and stained glass windows. The interior of the Shrine is equally impressive, with a large Hall of Remembrance, a Sanctuary, and a crypt. The Hall of Remembrance is the heart of the Shrine. It is a vast space with a high ceiling and stained glass windows that depict scenes from Australian history. The Sanctuary is a smaller space that is used for quiet reflection and prayer. The crypt is home to the Eternal Flame, which burns in memory of all Australians who have died in wars and conflicts. The Shrine of Remembrance is a place of great significance for Australians. It is a place to remember those who have served their country, and to honor their sacrifices. It is also a place to learn about Australian history and to reflect on the importance of peace. If you are ever in Melbourne, I highly recommend visiting the Shrine of Remembrance. It is a truly moving experience. Open every day from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free. Cashless payment carparking on the streets.

Beautiful monument dedicated to remembering Australian fallen heroes in war. Night view was impressive due to quietness and no crowds. The constant fire is also solemn. There is a visitor centre to learn more. Great location that is easibly accessible by public transportation next to city centre.

I have been to the shrine itself a couple of times as I like to walk around the area but I’ve never been inside. It was such an amazing and interesting experience to learn about the history of war of Australia. Exploring the shrine is free and there’s audio and video checkpoints that will tell you about the history starting in the 19th century until today. There are quite a few stairs going up to the top of building but you’ll be rewarded with a nice view of Melbourne. The staff was very friendly and super helpful!

This place is one of a kind, everyone who visits Melbourne shall see it at least one time. No entrance fee, but free parking nearby on the avenue. You can see all the military history of Australia from the Boer wars until nowadays. Can be visited with wheelchair as well, no stairs at unnecessary places. Lift fits for wheelchair as well. A small gift shop is on the ground floor, you can buy some sweets or some souvenirs if you desire to do so. A whole lot of info collected, takes up to 4-5 hours to visit the place and dig all the information out. The view from the balcony on the top is spectacular. Can spend 30-40 minutes there too.

Really impressed with this place. The gardens and outside area are just so beautiful. Would highly recommend going into the museum. Bigger then you think and so much amazing (but also sad) history to explore and see. No formal fee to get in but they work in donations. Also has a good sized seating area in the cafe. A must must see if you’re in Melbourne

The 15-minute service occurs every Sunday at 4:45pm and encompasses bugle calls, a piper, Shrine Guard in historic attire, a wreath-laying ceremony, recital of the Ode, and the solemn lowering of the flags. Upon its conclusion, i was requested to provide a review of their experience. Recommended.
