We live in the area but there aren't many sit down restaurants we'd personally visit but this was different. We decided to give it a try and was shocked at the quality of food and service. The place is regularly busy for a good reason. We'll definitely be coming back with friends and family. So far this is the only restaurant WE feel like is worth sitting in and eating at. All the foods fresh and the quality doesn't disappoint.

The Highlands Cafe and Grill is a brand new restaurant in the Penn Branch Shopping Center but behind it and next to the Planet Fitness. I went today for breakfast with the family, and it was a great experience. This place has a great neighborhood feel to it, which is good considering I live about a block from there. The service and food were great, as were the portions. You can tell the menu is rooted in family recipes and classic dishes, some with a modern twist to them. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they have a bar inside as well. About 40 people in all can enjoy themselves inside. Penn Branch needed a restaurant we can call our own, and Highlands Cafe and Grill delivers on that.

Ordered on UberEats. Turkey burger was over cooked and it was the thickest burger ever. They forgot my grilled onions and turkey bacon in which I paid extra for. The chicken empanada filling wasn’t good. Wings were fried too hard and very dry, probably due to them being overcooked.

This was my first time at Highlands Cafe and I will be back. Great food, decent prices and ok service. The portions were a good size. My friends and I had 4 drinks, 3 appetizers and 3 entrees for $150 (20% gratuity automatically added). Highly recommend!

I was not greeted upon entering into this establishment I had to grab someone’s attention to place my to go order. besides the customer service lacking in the first five minutes, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I got my usual, the brioche french toast, eggs scrambled cheese, bacon, and home fries. Although my home fries didn’t taste like the ones at their uptown location, I still ate them. They were pretty decent. The bacon was pretty good as well,cooked to perfection👌🏾.The French toast is on a whole nother level. The bread is soft, fluffy, and simply amazing.

I first would like to say the customer service is good; but it can be a little better. The food is excellent. I have a comment about the automatic gratuity that they add to our bill whether you dine in alone or not alone they add an $11.10. Its fine I understand why, but I am a person who is not cheap and tips well and of course based on the service I am getting. I do not agree with this instant gratuity because it makes you feel as if your being forced to pay a tip and its not just any percentage its a 20% tip. So lets say the service was horrible so when they give me my bill i am forced to pay additional for horrible service. I also think its absurd the audacity of them even daring to ask for an additional tip just come and pay with cash that way there is no additional signing being asked to pay an additional tip. The food and the inside of this place and the one on 14th Street are very beautiful and colorful and the culture of the place represents the neighborhood. This is a nice size cozy restaurant and the other one is small and cozy represents the community, but by automatic adding this high amount tip amount to me i think its going a little too far this is not a 5 star large restaurant its a nice size cozy café. The chef who cooks yes nice guy excellent food but the community has supported the restaurant located at 4706 14th ST NW its been there for many years we all love the food the people there's new people at the SE one i do not know yet i ate there one time so far so good. I just want to comment about the community has patronize this store for so long and for this new added gratuity i don't feel the community should be forced to pay a high gratuity. We do love this place trust me; the community has supported this place and i don't believe they deserve high gratuity's added to their check.

Wonderful food! Nine people and everyone was happy with choices. Especially liked the fried green tomatoes, Shrimp PoBoy, and Oxtails. Favorite dessert is still Bread Pudding, but Creme Brulee is also good. Great service!

Great bustling atmosphere with grown folks, serving a variety of delicious freshly made food. And service with a smile. I can't wait to go back and try another meal.
