We had a restful and peaceful experience. The food was delicious, fresh, and cooked to order. The African omelet for breakfast was my favorite, along with the fresh bread and banana. My room was clean and comfortable. I appreciate the guesthouse house style. 3 other colleagues and I each had a common room for discussion each night.

This was a 1.5 hrs tour of the sanctuary. It an excellent place to visit. Good for all ages and cost about $15 in Sierra Leonean curency. You can also spend a night there. Go to the website for more details.

A phenomenal sanctuary that is doing everything possible to fight for some of SL's last remaining green space and to protect the chimps. Come visit if you can and definitely support them as much as possible. We need to protect our planet.

An extraordinary experience! Very knowledgeable tour guides and exciting opportunities to witness the chimpanzees. Be prepared to hike up a steep hill to access the sanctuary, unless you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

One of a handful of restaurants in Kenema that sells Middle Eastern and European food. The prices are reasonable and they deliver food free of charge. Waiting time for the food is hit or miss when dining in; sometimes a sandwich takes an hour to arrive. The staff are extremely friendly. The hotel rooms are nice with mosquito nets, large beds and bathrooms, AC & TVs. They also have a generator for power cuts.

Definitely recommend to go and spend a night in Tacugama in their eco lodges in a little jungle - it is a special experience. Beautiful surrounding, good food, amazing staff who is taking care of the cimpanzees. We did a tour and a long hike and we had a great time!!

Stayed here a couple of years ago. A wonderful eco-tourism place to stay with the benefit of helping the chimpanzees. This history of Tacugama and the ongoing work it does is a testament to the owners and the local people.

Doing an excellent job rescuing and rehabilitating chimps that have been kept as pets. Knowledgeable and passionate guides. You definitely need a 4x4 to get up the hill to get here.

Paloma guest house is a nice place. However airconditioners in their rooms don't have individual remote controls and therefore visitors are unable to adjust the temperature.

Beautiful experience. It was my first contact with chimpanzees and I was utterly impressed by their resemblace to humans.. The sanctuary seems provides a very good and spacious place for the chimps, which seem to have a lot of fun living there. I also slept in the sanctuary's lodge and I loved it. Woke up with the chimps screaming, which was quite fun! Highly recommend!

Rooms, cleanliness and facilities are good when you compare it with other hotels / guest houses available in this small town. But the service is too poor. Waiting time at the restaurant is too long. At times you keep calling for the waiters, they don't care much. Most of the time They just serve food at the table and disappear. They don't serve beer, but can bring for you from outside shop. However, due to no competitors in the town and non availability of comfortable facilities, you have no other choice! Also I must mention here that the evening restaurant environment is pretty noisy due to the church activities across the road.

Chimpanzees are rehabilitated and cared for here. You would love this place because it is one of the very few places to have fun in Sierra Leone. This is one of the most interesting places to visit in Sierra Leone. Though I visited this place before the flood that happened in Sierra Leone, I am not so sure about the status after the disaster.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in Freetown! This sanctuary provides so much support for the chimpanzees, including food, water and a shelter. The rangers protect the surrounding area from poaching. The road up to the sanctuary is challenging, you will definitely need a 4x4.

Went to the yoga retreat here and had a lovely few days! The food was genuinely so tasty, the lodges were stunning and it was generally a very relaxing place to stay. The sanctuary walk was beautiful as well, and the chimps appear to be treated very well and are being rehabilitated to allow them the best chance to return to the wild, even after some very traumatising abuse at the hands of people. I definitely recommend a visit.

The chimp tour is excellent. I would not recommend the bird walk though. There was very little to see and it was not good value for money, 4 stars given because of the excellent chimp tour.

By far the best option in Kenema that we found. We initially went to Ericson’s and Paloma is much cleaner, more spacious, and has better food. The staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. I liked their pizza. It’s near a nightclub so can be loud, but the AC drowns it out. I recommend asking for a room facing the courtyard.

  • 4/5 FERAS H. 2 years ago on Google
In comparsion with other hotels, this one is very good. The rooms are clean and equipped with AC. The location is near to a crowded zone so don't expect it as very quite Added comment: the resturant is nice and the waiters are very responsive (when it's not crowded) leabnese food is served and a delicious traditionally made coffee is available

One of the nicer hotels in Sierra Leone. Generator was too loud to sleep but they moved me to a quieter room. The bed was very comfortable and the room dark and quiet. Food is okay. No hot water.

Stayed here recently while on a research project that took me to Kenema. Rooms are basic but clean and functional. Staff are very helpful and try hard to do a good job. It's a busy place and sometimes things just don't happen on time.

Located near the city centre. The GH is clean and provides great hospitality. The rooftop sitting is great.

For a regional hotel in Sierra Leone this place is pretty good. The location doesn't look promising but once inside the compound it is actually pretty good. Rooms fine and beds reasonably comfortable. Considering what these kinds of places can cost, then about $70 per night was good. Restaurant and bar (no direct alcohol sales but you can send out for some). Nice food and a good place to watch the football if you are into that.

Paloma Guest House is the big name here in Kenema. If you are in Kenema Sierra Leone and requires a place to pass the night it cool then. With several detached small house they are able to accommodate many. They have good meals in their menu.

A great place to visit and the staff are brilliant. The guides have many stories and a sounds knowledge....although watch out for the stone throwing! It's worth staying a night too in their cabins, waking up to the sound of all the animals is amazing. They can also provide dinner and breakfast; both of which were very tasty. If you're staying, they are also self catering, so would recommend stocking up on some food and a bottle of wine before hand.
