Neat historic spot right in the middle of downtown London. The bunker has been nicely upkept to preserve the history. The audio guides for the tour do not require headphones. I do recommend the audio tour, as it nicely complements the walk through. You can move at your own pace. We took a teenager and he enjoyed the history of WWII. We also caught a neat parade as we were leaving.

Well worth a visit to see where Churchill ran the war underground. The museum is superb giving you some insight to a remarkable man. How close we came to losing the war many times. Well worth a visit!

Amazing experience with so much history. Fascinating to walk the halls where key decisions were made about WWII. Audio tour is very well done and the museum has a ton of information with a lot of artifacts from Churchill himself. Really glad we took the time to visit the War Rooms. It is rather expensive. $80 USD for two people.

Depending on your interests, to me this is a filler. If this is your first time in London and you are short in time, I'd say just skip it and go to the highlights, unless you are really interested in WWII stuff. Don't misunderstand me, this is a great museum, really interesting and fascinating. I visit it during my first time in London, but I had one full week, which was plenty of time. I'd strongly recommend booking in advance and arriving as early as you can. This is definitely a must see, if you can't make it the first time, be sure to plan for your second visit. Truly incredible, and so packed of history.

This is such a lovely place. It is very historical and loads information about the way the war handled and ran during the war. You can Churchill was a Conservative and not with the other parties. He was very focused on winning the war even when things were not going as planned. He was a true warrior and deserved more recognition. The people who worked underground were very special people, and they deserved a medal. Back to the place in this day and age now, the place has been very well restored and looked after. There is a very well run cafe and not too expensive with lovely food.

This was our favorite museum in London. If you have several days in London, you should add it to your list of things to do. It is walkable to Big Ben, Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. The museum about Churchill's life was very interesting. We learned things we never knew about him. And the war rooms were fascinating. How they lived during World War II. It was so good that we may go back again. We recommend buying tickets in advance.

A friend recommended we go here and we are so glad that we did! This was our favourite of the WW2 historical stops. They do a great job in telling the story and making history interactive. Very impressed. We attended on a weekday and pre-purchased our tickets. Minimal wait time on the queue. Well worth your time.

Here History was made, nothing in London’s history is as incredible or interesting as it’s perseverance and Will to survive, demonstrated by no one better than the formidable and legendary Sir Winston Churchill. So do take your time to visit this unbelievable historic and iconic site. Get your audio guide and take your time.

For those that are coming their first time, plan to book a tour in advance especially during summer months. Having lived in London for ~4 years this is on of my favourite things to bring guests to- having been 5 times to the museum it still doesn’t get old. Plan for at least 90 minutes for the tour. This is a must see in London for anyone that can appreciate the decisions that were made in this bunker that ultimately lead to our modern world. Churchill is a man unlike any other and to see his and this great country’s story unfold during such a pivotal time is a once and a life time experience.

Incredibly poignant and detailed experience that's a must when visiting London. You could almost feel the spirit of the war effort as you walked through the place, which was largely untouched from when the war ended. You really got a.feel for the spirit of everyone who worked down there during the war and feel the presence of Churchill all around. The audio tour was not too long but still had plenty of detail. Not cheap at £33 but you will be there for 2.5 hours easily

I liked it. Very informative about Churchill. Sometimes a bit messy on where to go inside, but it's not too bad. Spent about 2-2,5 hours here, personally I found that enough. Though if you like reading stuff I'd think 3-4 hours would be necessary. Furthermore I found it quite busy. But didn't ruin the experience. Overall it was alright. Though I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has no previous interest in WW2 or other historic events regarding Churchill.

This was a great experience. It was amazing to learn about the history of the war rooms and the crucial part they played in the war. The exhibitions are engaging and interesting. The stories for the typists are especially interesting. My only criticisms would be that, when I arrived it was a full hour and a half before the war rooms were due to close. I felt that they were rushing me around after 40 minutes (with a guard following the crowd to stop people going back in). They were also using the electrics room for a private dinner, but still had it open to tourists, which was a bit odd. Given that I paid £30 to go in, I think they should’ve left that until after the war rooms were closed. That said, I would come back here again as I’d like to see the war rooms properly.

Absolutely brilliant afternoon out! Learnt so many interesting facts about Churchill and life during World War Two. The audio guide was very useful and covid friendly (looks like a phone so can be easily wiped down). The audio guide included interviews with people who used to work there during the war, which gave really good insight! The rooms were so well preserved, even 3 sugar cubes from the 1940s had remained untouched in one of the desks! It was like stepping back in time. Only complaint, which isn't much of a complaint, is that there wasn't much choice in the cafe which was disappointing but didn't really effect the experience. The gift shop had plenty of choices and wasn't overly expensive.

A very fascinating museum for those interested in WWII and Winston Churchill. I highly recommend pre booking your tickets for the opening time as it does get crowded fast, but well worth working around the crowds and a very enjoyable audio guide which provides a lot of information and in-depth look at this amazing place. If you are in London this is a must see

#1 Must see in London - The place that changed the course of civilized time. The reason we can move around and admire London. The solemnity of it weighs in every room PRO: - History frozen in time - Excellent guides - Tons of rooms CON: - No way you can do it in ONE trip. SUMMARY: I didn't think I would be as immersed or moved going through the war rooms. So good, I know I'll have to do it again.

Such an amazing start to our European holiday here. The location alone was close to many historic buildings and landmarks. Even those who are not history buffs should visit as they would enjoy this location. Our teenagers had a very good time. Prebooking your tickets gets you in during a 30 min window and once you are in, there are not large crowds and you can wander at your leisure. Your tickets include an audio guide which had a lot of interesting facts. We really enjoyed it here!

Fabulous tour back in war time. The depth and details in this tour was superb. Really got to know Churchill and his character. You also get free audio which is superb information to learn about the history. We spent 1.5 hours round here but could easy do 2 to 3 hours, as there was so much information. Toilets, cafe, no parking (it’s central London) Definitely highly recommended tour to learn about the history of Churchill and the war.

Fascinating preservation of an essential part of WWII history. The rooms are interesting to peruse, and the free audio guide is very well done and engaging, including snippets of interviews with people who actually worked there during the war. We arrived an hour prior to closing, so we only spent time in the war rooms, rather than looking through the museum exhibits. Staff was friendly. Admission is a bit pricey, but considering the free admission to other great London museums, I guess it balances out. Keep in mind that this is essentially a bunker, so the hallways can be a little narrow and confined. If you're a little claustrophobic, this may not be right for you.

Surprisingly well designed museum that both shows the War Rooms from which the British armed forces were coordinated, and the personal history of Churchill. Reserve about 1.5 hours if you want to have a good look, however if closing time is near, the friendliest museum staff I've ever encountered will quietly and very politely inform everyone individually, that you should move on if you want to see the war rooms as well (which we managed thanks to them). Note that the shop closes at the same time as the museum, so visit that first if you're late. Well recommended.

Underground bunkers in central London. They are located under The Treasury Building in the Whitehall area of Westminster. Used by English during WW2. Museum includes art exhibitions as well as an extensive exploration of the life of Winston Churchill. Additionally there are detailed accounts of what functions the rooms served during the war effort. Many rooms have mannequins to add a touch of realism to the exhibits. Allow yourself enough time to visit. Easily can take you a couple of hours to tour using the available audio guide.

"Winston Churchill" a historical figure in second world war. Like any other other politician he is either a warrior or transgressor depends on the time, people perspectives and political affiliation in those era. It is truly an unusual place as those underground bunkers, commentaries on the phone regarding the site, and those war rooms, infrastructures and it's surroundings gives you an immersive experience. Churchill, his staffs and army personnels of that time who assigned there during the combat seriously came up against some remarkable, distinctive and quiet challenging situations which we can hardly gasps but true understanding will always remained to those who withstanded it.

Not a place I would have gone to had my nephew not been interested, but in the end we spent 3 hours touring the 5 floors of the museum. It's free but be sure to buy something at the gift shop or make a donation. There is a Spitfire hanging from the ceiling along with several other war aircrafts. At the moment there is a moving gallery dedicated to the holocaust. You can book a free time slot online.

we waited in line at the museum for 1.5 hours. However, the queue was well worth it as everything inside was incredibly realistic. But when we entered the Map Room, we got stuck in each room, examining every detail. We had a lot of impressions, so if you're interested, it's worth adding this museum to your must-visit list!

Absolutely wonderful museum. Highly recommend if visiting London. We bought our tickets in advance, waited in a small queue (they stagger guests for optimal museum viewing) and thoroughly enjoyed all the information and history of Sir Winston Churchill. Audio guide is included in your ticket, which is awesome! Do it!

I'm giving it a four because it seemed like it was a great place to see. I however, did not see it because the line was two hours long. This may be attributed to it being the anniversary of D-Day and a rainy day at that. What I learned was to purchase tickets online - which you cannot do the day of. So buy them in advance. Check the weather, plan your trip. It is located within walking of many other London landmarks and attractions. So you have options. And it's London so you should have an umbrella.

Every corner of this museum gives me chills. You actually get immersed into the real bunkers where the British orchestrated the war effort in WWII. I recommend watching Darkest Hour to get the most out of the trip prior to your visit, as it will color the physical rooms, maps, uniforms, etc you will see. I also stopped for a quick scone and tea in the bunker, which was delicious

I was here two years ago and is the most impressive war bunkers where Churchill and his government spent their most harrowing days during World War II. This place is in the heart of London power. It is really interesting to visit these War Rooms, they are as they were at the time they were used, very well preserved. It has a very complete guide that is included in the ticket and that is in several languages. My favourite part is that at the end of the visit there is a shop where you will find super original souvenirs. They should open again this interesting place!

Awesome place to see while visiting London. Interesting to see where Churchill lived and managed the war from. Very close quarters with very little privacy. Amazing that he accomplished what he did while staying here. Would never know there was a bunker there, right in the middle of the city. Great history is preserved here and any history buff must stop and visit this site.

Important historic site and audio guides are great to lead you around the underground complex and give lots on information. It’s atmospheric and the numerous excellent exhibits capture and represent the WW2 history. It reminds me Battle of Hong Kong in WW2 Talks about everything from Churchill beings born and his life even before the War. It recommend spending around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours to fully experience everything.

I have always known that Winston Churchill was a great man, but being in this museum for a second time (19 years apart), I am in awe of this iconic figure. The new sections that were added over the last few years are a monument to this person. This museum should be one of the top places to visit when in London. Set aside at least three hours in order to fully enjoy the experience.

Really interesting, useful self guided audio included. We easily spent almost 2 hours. Seeing the rooms and listening to audio guide takes around 1 hour then the substantial section all about Churchill can easily take another hour or so if you are interested to have a good look around. Over priced guide book £5 unnecessary

Small but vast, the audioguide is a precious tool, such as the real guides who tell you anecdotes here and there.. everything is very impressive! And don’t miss the museum, too. I was shocked by the price at first, but in the end it was really worth it.

Went here with a few friends as they wanted to go. Not sure why I was surprised by how interesting it was and what I was thinking, but what I do know is it was a great afternoon of learning and in great detail. The lack of pictures is because I generally forgot as I was quite into it but noticed there's plenty of people who have on other reviews 😊 you start in the area where a lot of the key decisions were made and when you look above you see the steel ceilings that were made, it's crazy to think but so much history in one area. What they do is provide a phone which you put to your ear and code in each section, and then it explains in detail key moments. Location is right near to parliament so easy enough to find your way there, if a nice day would recommend walking. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and hope this review makes you go. Book in advance as always better. Solid A***** from me. LDT x

This visit/experience exceeded expectations. A fantastic look behind the curtain to see where England directed it's WWII efforts, underground and safe from the bombings of Germany. In wonderfully preserved settings, see where the cabinet met daily, where Winston Churchill worked and lived, and where the staff conducted business in unusual circumstances. The Churchill museum within us also fascinating. Reserve your timed ticket online. Small cafe underground offers some nice snacks too.

Great exhibition including the Churchill museum. Entry is a bit steep, but I have no regrets whatsoever. Personally I would recommend taking the audiotour, as a lot more is told than is on the signs. The documentaries don't do it justice, being there in person make a bigger impression than I initially thought. Recommend? A wholehearted "Yes".

Wow!! What a place to visit! I hate wars and all things related to them ... but ... this was an amazing piece of history to immerse yourself in. Very factual account of life in that time. Did not particularly focus on the horrors of war but instead depicted the daily life of those responsible for protecting the British (and other) people. Definitely don’t miss this when visiting London!

If you have seen the movie "the Darkest Hour", then you have had a glimpse into the museum. The museum does a fantastic job of helping understand the difficulty of the era. The one thing that you must spend some time doing is looking at Churchill's past before he became a wartime leader. There is some very interesting dichotomy there! Enjoy!

A truly fascinating place depicting our darkest hours as a nation. The underground rooms that these people worked and slept in were dire and here you can experience it for a short and very much sanitised experience from how it would have been. It has been re-ordered for Covid and numbers limited etc.

Cant believe this place. How it was never hit during the war is a miracle. Its a time capsule and was definitely on my list for places to visit. Staff helpful and friendly

From friends and reviews, I knew that this place was going to enrich my knowledge about Britain and the II world war. And it didn't lower my expectations. Very well organised even in covid times and so full of information. Exhaustive audio guide. The museum closes at 6, and I recommend allocating a bit more than two hours for the visit, which means that the 4 pm slot might make you rush. Watch the film "the darkest hours" before or after your visit to the museum. It's shot almost entirely in those rooms.

Really two separate museums, one being the Cabinet War Rooms and the other a museum dedicated to Churchill. Both are very interesting but more should be done to emphasise the many other people involved in running the war, not focusing so heavily on Churchill.

Great insight into the Churchill’s wartime history. He is an inspirational leader to all, with determination and will to succeed. It was a good day out to this museum. Highly recommended to all.

It's a step into the past, your actually in the place where the war was strategically won.

(Translated by Google) For those interested in history, particularly World War II, it is highly recommended. You can see the bunker rooms from where Churchill ruled and led the offensive against the Nazis. In addition, there is a sector that exhibits his personal belongings with a chronology of his life. Everything is very well explained in the audio guide and on the posters. The tour takes at least an hour and a half.

We had to pre book tickets & got a slot 10 to 10:30. Went straight in no queue & area around pretty quiet for Central London so easy to socially distance. Hand alcohol gel used on entry & had to wear a mask. Floor clearly labelled with markings to socially distance. Was given a hand set u put the number of the display your looking at in & gives u a commentary. Definitely worth a visit, I thought I knew a lot about Churchill but learnt so much more. Was amazing to see the war rooms, map rooms, his medals, uniforms personal processions, sleeping & dining quarters. The place is huge so we must have spent at least 2 1/2 hours here. Very easy to go from one exhibit to next, all flat & on one level & easy to keep your distance. Lots of various types of displays to interact with or sit & watch documentaries. Loved it & well worth the money, shop on exit is reasonably priced too.

Great place to go visit when in London. Such an experience to walk the same halls where Churchill once was and understood the impact they really played on the outcome of the war.

Love anything to do with Wartime London. Even the location is in the heart of London surrounded by gorgeous architecture. This was another place on my ‘post COVID’ list. The staff were very welcoming and informative and I thoroughly recommend getting the audio guide. Each section gives a great level of detail at every interval. The war rooms really give you a detailed idea of how London persevered through the war and how essential the underground bunker became during hard times. The gift shop at the end was full of trinkets, books and memorabilia.

I highly recommend it! Spent 2.5 hrs without feeling it! It's very interesting and impressive. I only deducted a star because the tracks and the room order wasn't in a sequence, which made me and a lot of people confused at the beginning.

  • 5/5 Tim S. 2 years ago on Google
Had no idea I would learn so much here. An excellent museum, very well laid out. Went on my own so cost ok, not sure I would want to pay £100 for 4 people for around 2 hours though.

I didn't have any expectations of what this museum would be like, and ended up spending over two hours there and with it firmly cemented as one of the best museums I've been too. The war rooms themselves are well preserved with lots to see (it's a self guided walkthrough so you can take as much time as you want), and the exhibition about Churchill at the end was extremely informative and immersive. Fascinating place overall, can recommend making use of the (free) audioguides that are offered, which provide context and stories to multiple parts of the museum. Staff were extremely well informed and were great at sharing their own insights.

By far one of the best places I have visited while in London. Everything is well curated and the audio tour is highly fascinating. Specifically the room dedicated to the live of Churchill was impressive and very detailed. The whole experience exceeded my expectations and was worth every penny. I would highly recommend to visit this place.

Really enjoyed my visit here, lots to see and learn about. They have a cafe which seemed nice but didn’t go in so can’t comment on what the foods like. I would say it’s a tad expensive and wouldn’t say it was worth as much as i paid to get in. However I would say it’s definitely worth a visit.

A great insight into Wartime England & the effect it had on the nation while under the watchful eye of The Bulldog.

  • 5/5 Steve D. 2 years ago on Google
This is a MUST visit/to do if you are in London. The war rooms are steeped in history, and as soon as you set foot inside. Love him or hate him, you will learn so much about Churchill. His battels, his thoughts ànd how he was the hero of WW2. The volunteers are fantastic and so knowledgeable and a special thanks to Rod for showing me the items of interest. I highly recommend watching the film, darkest hour and then visit and you will feel and smell the tension. Its a must visit museum whilst in London. It is expensive, however IWM have a membership scheme where you pay £5pm and that gets you free entrance to all IWM sites plus 10% discount in the shop. It makes sense to visit HMS Belfast to as its free with your membership. You will see so much of Churchill in the new exhibition which holds many of his items and love letters to clemmy. You will not be disappointed and I highly recommend at least half a day if not longer and soak up the atmosphere.

So atmospheric! You can completely imagine the secretaries and dashing officers rushing around these claustrophobic corridors during World War 2. Entirely understandable why Churchill only slept here on 3 nights. The Churchill Museum has highlights of some of his brilliant speeches but I particularly liked the display that described a day in Churchill's life during the war. There's a cafe about half way round, with good sandwiches and cake. A really fantastic way of reflecting on what our grandparents and parents had to deal with during a terrible time.

  • 4/5 Samice L. 1 year ago on Google
What a wonderful experience to look at the famous war cabinet room and Chruchill’s bedroom inside these War Rooms (used to be Britain’s headquarters in WWII). The museum is way more extensive than expected. Strongly advise to save at least 6-7 hours for a full visit. Just come in the morning and leave as it closes would do. The museum is in multimedia with a good portion of excerpts by the War Rooms staff working closely with the PM then. Staff are generally nice. However, a number of them are unprofessional and even notably rude when it comes to the brink of closing time. Guards chattering around does hinder the experience a bit, especially you are on the audioguide speaker. Minus one star for that. Hope that the War Rooms would be included in London Pass for tourists in the future.

  • 5/5 Algeiba C. 1 year ago on Google
As someone who loves learning about history, especially anything that has to do with WWII, this was the most fascinating place I visited in London. The admission price was very reasonable, and the souvenir shop had some great items at excellent prices.

  • 5/5 Matthew H. 1 year ago on Google
This was a neat historical visit. Some demonize Churchill and some love the guy. After seeing the exhibit I think he was a good guy with a few flaws that we all share. He did well protecting his people given there was no 20/20 hindsight at the time.

  • 5/5 Gil M. 1 year ago on Google
The museum tells the story of Churchill throughout his life with extra focus on WWII while he was the prime minister. If you do the tour quickly you can wrap up in about an hour, but it would most likely take at least 1.5 hours if you want to cover it more thoroughly. You get an audio device at the entrance with guided info for every room. They have info in multiple languages including Hebrew.

  • 5/5 Kara P. 1 year ago on Google
The curators here are really focused on the details and it shows. I really enjoyed learning about the history here. I will say the museum room during my tour was confusing to follow and from the lack of photos from other reviewers here I’m guessing I’m not alone in finding that the least engaging. I greatly appreciated the audio guide through the map rooms and living quarters. I’m glad I went!

This museum is absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend visiting it during your trip to London. It is filled with so many areas, artifacts, video content, written content, and things to see that you could spend hours here. I spent nearly 3 hours inside the museum myself. It was really interesting walking through all the exhibitions and learning about Winston Churchill's life leading up to WWII and what occurred after the war had concluded. There is just so much rich history inside the Churchill museum and the war rooms that I feel like everyone should experience it at least once.

  • 4/5 Nigel M. 10 months ago on Google
First visit, have seen most all other IWM sites so had high expectations. It was a great insight into what is a very symbolic site for us during WW2. Great to see how things were back then, how the staff lived day to day and the very insightful volunteers who help provide further information to you as you walk around. As the site isn’t the most spacious it can get crowded and there isn’t much room to move around in some corridors.

  • 4/5 Brad C. 10 months ago on Google
We visited this place under the assumption that it was all related to WWII. There is a large part of it that is just about Churchill's back story and personal journey. That was great but not near as interesting as his specific role in the war (based on my preference, of course). The underground bunker is not very conducive to large crowds, so things get tight. All of the maps are behind glass in elaborate displays and most were difficult to see. Overall, it was good but not what I was expecting. An audio guide comes with the admission ticket.

  • 5/5 Kristy D. 11 months ago on Google
Very interesting museum. I am usually not a museum person (I hate reading everything). But this one gives you an audio guide where you press the number of the station and it gives you an exert of the area you are looking at. The middle of the museum is a bunch of interactive displays and reading portions, but it kept my interest for the most part. Staff was very helpful and inviting.

Fabulous Museum, so much to see, read and explore. You are supplied with listening device at the start to explore the majority of exhibits. Winston Churchill's life is depicted through the war and his colleagues and allies alike... A day to see it all just wasn't enough. My only critism is to avoid the sandwiches in the cafe, they were very dry and hard to swallow on the day we visited.

A very interesting exhibition, if you're interested in the 2. World War. It's an exciting and excellent exhibition about the life of Churchill in a unique underground complex. We can visit the underground War rooms, the map room, the bedroom of Churchill and his wife's bedroom. It's absolutely worth of visiting!

A must visit if you're in London. The CWR really takes you back to the dark days of WWII. The Churchill museum is very interesting and gives a good overview of this complicated yet great man. It is a good place to visit for both adults and kids. If you listen close enough, you can imagine what people in the bunker went through when bombs were being dropped around them.

  • 5/5 Lawrence B. 6 months ago on Google
The War Rooms and fittingly, the Churchill Museum share this location. Both are astoundingly informative. I will leave most of the surprises for travelers to discover on their own. His favorite firearm, which he purchased in 1916 and used on the western front in WWI, was an American M1911 .45 Auto.

  • 5/5 Julian B. 8 months ago on Google
Very impressed by the authenticity and amount of original material still in place here. It was much bigger than I expected and I spent nearly 3 hours doing the tour and could have spent a lot longer. There is a very comprehensive museum just on Churchill and his life story.

  • 5/5 Mike C. 5 months ago on Google
Really interesting place, lots to see and take in. Also a lot that can be learned whilst there. We did the tour with a wheelchair and staff were excellent, with all areas surprisingly accessible. Such a different experience to the one at the British Museum!

The little over 2 hours spent there was well worth it. As Americans, seeing the English side of the world wars and the troubles was good. The museum is well organized and has tons of detailed artifacts if you have the time.

Considering that W. Churchill is one of my greatest historical figures, it was an absolute treat to visit the W.C. War Room. Let me tell you it DID NOT disappoint. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting London to visit the Winston Churchill War Room and get a first hand glimpse of what these brave men and women did during WWII to save democracy in Europe and the rest of the world as we now know. The Winston collections in thbe museum are excellent. Many things I did not know.

  • 5/5 Steve O. 3 months ago on Google New
This is a really cool place. Kids will get antsy fairly quickly. The corridors are tight so be prepared to wait while others view the area and listen to the free audio tour segment. The museum section was a great addition to the War Rooms.

We very much enjoyed the visit to the museum. Very informative and helpful to provide an appreciation for the war effort and insight into Churchill himself. Buy tickets online to get a spot to visit. Allow for 2-2.5 hours to take it all in.
