We never get disappointed with this local museum. Kids love it! Great location as you have a playground and a nice family friendly caffe across the road. The collection here is very interesting and I’ve been coming here since I’ve moved to Brighton. There are chairs and tables, keep an eye for activities for the little ones. There’s place for buggies. Accessible toilet. It closes for lunch.

It is a very beautiful and interesting place. It is possible to see many animals. animals all died 200 years ago and they look alive there are quite a few specimens in the bird section. It is recommended to go.

Fantastic hidden gem! Amazing taxidermy, free entry (suggested donation is £3) and loads for kids to do. Today we got to do screen printing, for free! Not too hard to find on road pay and display parking nearby that's not too expensive (for Brighton). Staff really friendly. Toilets clean.

Absolutely brilliant couple hours spent here. An unplanned trio and not expecting much but it's completely filled with things to look at and interactive bits for kids. My 1 and 2 year old loved it.

The museum was lively when my friend and I arrived! The animal displays were also varied to show the habitats of the birds, and some included prey. Not all of the animal names were visible in the glass cases portion, and there weren't additional placards providing information about each species, which I would've liked, but I may have also missed a QR code or something that led to an online guide. The back portion was no less fun, and the informational placards there had some humor! There was one about the rhinoceros skull with artificial horns that poked fun at their value-- since they weren't real, they couldn't be used in Chinese medicine or we'd be sick or sold at cocaine-level prices. Anyway, it's a quaint smaller museum in Brighton :) I liked it for an afternoon activity to spend a few hours in.

An excellent little museum curating the collection of Edward Thomas Booth a Victorian collector who insisted in the terms of donating the museum to the City that his Victorian-era dioramas, mostly of stuffed birds and other animals not be altered. As such the museum now works as a fascinating time capsule into a past era of museums. The museum itself does a great job modernising around its innately old-fashioned contents, with interactive elements, crafting/drawing areas for younger children, trails and videos of an actor reading out excerpts from Booth's original notebooks in character as Booth (mostly about his love of birds and hatred of the local cats). Entry is free, the staff are consistently polite and the gift shop is decently stocked. 100% recommend a visit.

Best kept secret in Brighton, such a great museum with a really great old fashioned vibe to it. Highly recommended.

Probably not everyone's 'cup of tea' but my 8 and 6 year old loved it and I couldn't help but admire the skill of the taxidermist! The museum has made a lot of child friendly crafts available which my two thoroughly enjoyed. We went round twice then played the 'Find me an...' game. I also liked the tactile exhibits, it's nice to be able to go somewhere the children are invited to touch and explore. The park and cafe across the road made it a complete day out for us. Looking forward to a return visit.

This is a FREE museum in Brighton. If you can make a donation, then it Will help with the costs of running the building. What an interesting place. Things for the adults to have a read up on, activities for the kids to get involved with. Loads of exhibits to have a look at, some really interesting. So glad we went.

Fabulous experience. We loved it. Amazing staff and a style of exhibit that will never be seen again.

Amazing collection of specimens! Loads of birds made to look like they're in a natural habitat, and you can tell all of the specimens are looked after well. There is still a variety of other species there too! Quite an old fashioned looking and feeling place inside but I think it adds to the museum feel

This is a free museum where you can see the vast collection of largely taxidermy and skeleton amassed by a local Victorian collector.

Free old-style museum of birds in cases that started as a private collection of birds by a wealthy British eccentric. A tremendous collection of butterflies and insects has been added. Also a collection of skeletons! And great human children sound effects by screaming school groups! Worth the time! Open 4 days a week.

I have lived in Hove for a long time and had never visited the Booth museum but what a little gem. OK it might not be to everyone's taste but it was so interesting! Free entrance! My 2 and 3/4 year old grandson loved the activities and I think the added touch of free torches, magnifying glasses, etc is a great touch for little people!

Free entry! Can’t turn away anything free. Also very easy to get to. The museum is great, it’s essentially a huge gallery of taxidermied animals and critters, from huge eagles, to cicada moths. It’s great to get a close up look at a collection of animals you’ll probably never get to see in your lifetime otherwise. The staff are incredibly friendly and always give a little talk about the background and history of the museum, and how most of the animals and critters were acquired. Don’t bring your girlfriend though! Or you may be stuck here for hours whilst she looks at everything.

An absolute gem. Mostly reconstructed / animals, birds and insects. Play/reading area for children. A great little learning place for both children and adults. No disabled facility. Clean toilet and baby changing facilities. Afternoon opening hours only. Currently free entry. Donations accepted.

This place is well worth a visit. It has countless displays with stuffed animals (mostly birds), a whole room of insects and one with skeletons of several different mammals. I spent a good couple of hours there and was fascinated by their displays. It wasn't very busy at all, even though it was a bank holiday. It's also free to visit, although I would encourage you to make the recommended £3 donation to keep this place going!

We live in eastbourne and drove down so if I'd only cone for that I'd be abit disappointed as its small and looked around within a hour but it is interesting and my older children like it

Great little museum to walk around, lots and lots of taxidermy to see. Mostly aimed at children but interesting for adults too. Excellent value considering it is free entry.

Different to most of the natural history exhibitions, which only showed animal samples with short description or featuring mainly the evolution; Booth museum displayed the habitat of most species of UK birds. Everyone will knows where each bird live at a glance, which is astonishing.

Rather too many stuffed species for my liking, but I guess it has historical value, plus interesting skeletal remains of some species! Rather cold inside but it's free and it should be cherished, if just to highlight that wildlife is to be cared for, not shot and decimated. It does highlight for me, as a birder, how many species are suffering decline. 😐

Such fond memories from my childhood.

Great visit and lovely specimens. Went on a Sunday and was quiet. Only down side was a rather surly (short hair/bearded) security guard who was tidying up after some children and made it quite clear and loud he wasn’t happy. It was rather awkward to hear a member of staff express his frustration at doing his job. Other than that a great afternoon and recommend it to all.

Really interesting place, lots to see! Just like I remember it from when I was little. Amazing that it is still free!! (Only down side, which is of no fault of the Booth Museum itself, is that it is near a college, so when we went there was a group of loud rowdy teenagers, who tainted the experience a bit, but I'm not sure that can be helped)

Not as interesting as I had hoped. It seems to be mostly a family legacy of keeping someone's collection of stuffed birds with some bone collections at the far end (which was my fave area). Many displays are very high up and you can't see well (but with so many birds and limited space you can understand why). This place isn't for me. If you like bird species you might enjoy it. It's a shame there's not more variety. Sorry Booth museum.

Interesting place to go on a day out. Got a chance to see lots of birds (taxidermy) that we normally wouldn’t see. Highly recommend for an interesting day out. And they have a nice little gift shop too.

So much packed into this little, but quaint museum, there is a large range of birds and fish, cheetahs, monkeys etc.... very interesting indeed...

A beautiful Victorian collection of natural history. Slightly macabre to modern eyes perhaps, the display cases are captivating. One for the whole family. They've even got a jar of weasels - and you don't see that very often!

  • 4/5 Ami V. 1 year ago on Google
They have a pretty neat collection of ancient items that are described really well, and it is also convenient to navigate among different eras in the museum.

Interesting collection and must say very helpful staff. I went specifically to see their stuffed Egyptian vulture - a rare visitor to britain. Their example was sighted, shot and stuffed in 1860. The next one was seen in the Scilly isles last year and reported on the news - it would be nice to see Brigjton's example better displayed. (Top row - tracked down by the staff.)

A really interesting place to visit, and it's free. The staff there are great too. I Would highly recommend, especially for children, even the grown up ones.

Very nice old-school museum with countless specimens and beautiful dioramas. Great for visiting anytime and with anybody - family, friends, or solo. It's by donation so please support.

Lovely examples of skeletons and taxidermy, small but cute museum

  • 5/5 Ann m. 1 year ago on Google
Took our 3 children here for the 1st time and we wasn't disappointed at all. Not a large museum but definitely educational. We will definitely be visiting again and to top it off it is free to enter (donations if want to) and the staff were so polite.

I took my daughter here over the weekend. Now it's only a small place you could run round in 30sec. But if you take your time. Take advantage of the middle maybe sit down and do some colouring by the butterfly's it's a nice FREE activity. Fair warning though he anyone sensitive. Some of the stuffed animals are brutal and aren't always in the cutest of poses so keep that in mind before going. There's also a gift shop at the entrance

  • 5/5 TeachEasy T. 2 years ago on Google
Fantastic gem of a museum. Kids loved it. Very educational. Excellent collection of birds and animals. Long may it continue to educate and excite for free as I'm sure Booth intended!

  • 5/5 Anna G. 1 year ago on Google
Such an interesting museum - small but plenty to see. Helpful staff - although I didn't have children with me I could see there was plenty to keep them interested. Great way to spend an hour or so

Very good and deceptively large. It’s a relatively small collection but I could have easily spent all day in there because of how many specimens there are neatly packed together. The taxidermy and skeletons are all impressive and well put-together and everything felt very tidy and well up to date. There are plenty of spots to sit, including a cozy Victorian study. Definitely a must, especially if you’re interested in birds and taxidermy.

😐 They're beach huts! They don't provide any type of service. They just kinda sit there, being huts. As huts go, they're quite colourful. I'd go as far as saying that they're probably the best beach huts I've ever seen, which isn't saying that much. If you're a beach hut fan, or maybe just dabble in g...
