Pretty nice castle to visit. Surrounded by a valley with a nice view. As of Nov 2022, it was 6 euros to go inside and an extra 3 euros totaling 9 to climb tower, which I would say is worth it. There is a bathroom / toilet immediately after entering in the cellar. No food or drinks sold inside. You buy tickets in the building next door on the left. Ground floor takes about 15 -45 to explore , depending on how fast you go. The castle isn't that big, only about 9 rooms or so to visit, plus a gift shop. The tower you have to pay for separately, and you're only allowed up in timed intervals as part of a group. (We learned this the hard way after missing a schedule departure, because our primary school Spanish was not up to par and the gift shop lady did not speak good English). They say it is 152 steps, and I'd approximate it is about 4-6 stories worth of staircases. IMO not an issue at all for any healthy kid or adult, but otherwise will pose an issue. The staircase is very narrow. View is pretty good, and I think if you're already here you might as well pay the extra few euros to check it out. At a brisk pace through everything you could probably see it all in 1 hour (depends on the timing of the tower tour, it is set intervals at 00:15 and 00:45 as far as I can tell). A more moderate relaxed pace will probably land you at around 1-1.5 hours, maybe 2 hours if you take your time (as we did). Glad we did it though, was a decent castle as far as European castles go.

Iconic place in Segovia. It was nostalgic to visit it again after 40 years. The aqua duct is so impressive. Walking through the old town was amazing. Seniors be aware that it is a difficult walk. It is all up and steep down hill on cobbled streets. Difficult for people with reduced mobility. The castle is awesome A real life Disney castle!! Views of the surrounding area are fantastic.

This Castle is IMPRESSIVE! Totally worth the visit 💯. The views from the top are amazing specially the natural scenery around it. This medieval castle was the real inspiration for Disney World Castle, if you notice. All the rooms inside are beautifully layout and decorated, the armor and weapons replicas and objects and things from that time are so real that you can easily imagine life in these times. Pay attention to all the details and work on the walls and ceilings on each room, really gorgeous! And the town of Segovia is one of my favorites, such a cute and vibrant town, love it 💗💟💗

Very impressive! Well maintained, you can't find any better than this in every aspect - location, imposing structure, romantic aura, great collection of ancient armoury... Having served as a royal palace, prison, military school and a number of other functions, It dates back from the XII century and is the inspiration to many other castles of more recente times. This is the real one!

Amazing place with wonderful panoramic view of the city. Worth to go and recommend to buy a ticket in advance via official website. There are 3 parts inside this palace. The tower part is included in ticket choice but more expensive. The view from the tower is great. So worth to go. 👍👍👍

Beautiful and well kept grounds. Some absolutely gorgeous rooms with stained glass. The architecture is amazing! Don't forget to look up as some of the ceilings are spectacular. Don't spend time visiting the cellars as it doesn't live up to the beauty of the place.

Enjoyed visit around lots of rooms and ceilings marvellous. Ensure you buy ticket for both castle and Tower mine cost €8. View from top was good.

Beautiful castle to explore. Nice views around. We went there with organised excursion, so was not queuing to buy tickets. There was no queue on the entrance as well. Couple of hours will be enough to explore it without rush

Lovely fort. We did both the fort and the tower tours. Tower is about a 150 steps climb. Great views if you are able to make it.

Worthwhile trip with a very good display of ancient weapons through to the late 1700's. The tapestries are also very good. The structure itself looks more impressive from the outside and internally and is a lot smaller than a lot of other Alcazar that we have seen in Spain. Hence the 4 rating. Don't let that detract you from visiting as it still has a lot of merit.

This is a great place to go see. The aqueduct, the castle, and the sites fit right into our plans to see multiple cities in the Madrid area. We did a two city tour in one day and it was well worth the time.

One of the most if not the most beautiful castle listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site just 75 mins away drive from Madrid! A must see when in Segovia! Visit at sunset during summer months (open til 8pm) to experience a romantic stroll through the palace walls and garden. Fun Fact: Apparently Walt Disney’s Cinderella’s Castle was inspired by this particular castle.

Definitely worth visiting is you're nearby. It is afterall another castle that inspired the Disney one! The outside is more spectacular than the inside but the view from top of the tower is worth doing.

Visited this castle as part of a Viator tour from Madrid. Grounds are beautiful with gorgeous views of the lands. The history that happened in this place is amazing to hear and see where it happened. Artillery room, the ceilings, the wall decor, everything.. just an amazing place to visit and see.

Worth the trek to visit this beautiful castle. Tips buy the tower pass. You get great views of Segovia. But the best view of the cathedral is from the terrace behind the Alcazar's restaurant. It is said the towers were the inspiration for one of the Disney castles.

Definitely the best place to visit in Segovia. The Alcázar is beautiful is well conserved and has a lot of interesting things to see inside. I recommend to take the tickets with the access to the tower.

Absolutely without a doubt a beautiful place to remember. It had a lot of history and the most astonishing views inside and outside the palace. Fantastic place to visit!!

Everyone loves this castle 🏰. Wonderful views, lots of history but presented in a family friendly way. Easy to navigate around, except for the tower which is sadly only accessible by the able bodied, and then only at a push. Narrow spiral stone steps lead to upper levels of the tower offering unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape. We saw birds of prey gliding on the thermals, hundreds of feet up and yet at eye level. Brilliant experience.

Beautiful place! Best to get the audio guide as it will explain the history about the place without being boring. Best views from the tower (you need to book it with the ticket purchase ) but bare in mind the way up might be challenging as it’s steep and staircase is spiral 🌀

Wonderful historical site. So well kept. We visited first when it opened at 10am and literally had the place to ourselves. Beautiful views of the countryside. If you have ever been to Neuschwanstein in Germany and like it, you'll enjoy this castle.

What a fantastic experience for everyone. Young and old can come here and experience a castle and the beautiful scenery. The views from up on the castle are amazing. The walk to the castle is fun with shops and eateries along the way just remember that between 2-5 you’re gonna miss out on a lot of them.

This fairy tale castle is well worth a visit as well as the tower which takes a different entrance fee. The outside looks like a Disney castle and the inside houses knight outfittings, ancient weapons, wall carpets and more. The 152 steps to the top of the tower takes you to a grand view of Segovia and the surrounding area.

Alcazar is a must visit for anyone touring the side trips around Madrid. Such a beautiful and magical castles full of fanciful spires and exhibits of knights in shining armor. Don’t forget to walk down the hill to see it from a distance too! Such a beautiful and memorable castle!

The Alcazar de Segovia is a true gem that transports you to a fairytale world. As I walked through its enchanting halls and explored its towers, I couldn't help but feel like I was living in a medieval fantasy. The blend of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic, showcases the castle's rich history and the various cultures that influenced its design. The interior is adorned with intricate decorations, ornate ceilings, and stunning tapestries that provide a glimpse into the opulence of its past inhabitants. The highlight was undoubtedly the breathtaking view from the tower, where I was treated to panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply seeking an escape into a magical world, the Alcazar de Segovia is a must-visit destination that will leave you spellbound.

Impressive castle with outstanding views and well kept grounds. The tower is nice, but not worth the wait or the climbing with the group.

Beautiful place I would recommend to visit el torre as well, but you have to climb many many stairs , so be ready:) Tickets : 1. general admission and 2. GA + the tower

Mandatory landmark to visit when in Segovia. Climbing the tower is not as bad as advertised, and the view of the Cathedral and the city is priceless. It is good to buy the tickets in advance as the time for entrance and climbing the tower follows a tight schedule.

The highlight of a day trip to Segovia! The castle is impressive and iconic - and an inspiration for Disney’s castle! Be sure to purchase tickets online, which will save you time and effort. The castle is incredibly well preserved, including its medieval chambers and ancient foundations. You’ll totally feel like a king or a knight! The highlight would be the armory (complete with dozens of weapons) and the Torre de Juan II. Although entrance into the tower costs a little bit more (€9 vs €6), the view of the town and the countryside is completely worth it.

  • 5/5 Derek M. 6 months ago on Google
Well worth a visit! Takes about an hour to see, plus time for the tower, which provides a nice view of Segovia. All the rooms are beautiful, well appointed with artwork and the designs of the ceilings are intricate.

  • 4/5 Kero C. 4 months ago on Google
You probably need about 15-20 minutes to finish a tour inside the castle. I would not say this is the most beautiful castle, but it is still unique in its own way and is well maintained throughout the years. Some say that even the castle in Snow White was made mirroring this castle. P.s. Toilets are found at the entrance of the castle. Free of charge.

  • 5/5 Eric G. 1 year ago on Google
Great place to visit. Lots of history to be seen. The down side is that inorder to visit the tower, it has a timed entry. This doesn't work at as well when you are on a time crunch. Still worth the visit.

Amazing castle with a long and intriguing history. Beautiful and standing proud, it is no wonder that this is said to have motivated Disney's castle.

Absolutely gorgeous palace. The exterior is like a fairytale castle, and the interior is stunning. I particularly love the ceilings of the different rooms.

We enjoyed it especially the decorative ceilings so look up. The tapestry and artillery museums were nice. We chose not to do the tower. We also didn't book in advance and got tickets to go in straight away.

This castle is beautiful. If you come to Madrid, visit Segovia. The tour is an all day tour and only 50€.

  • 5/5 Burke H. 1 year ago on Google
We had a wonderful time at the castle in Segovia. The location is incredibly picturesque, with the castle sitting on a rocky outcropping alongside a river with a large plain below. The castle rooms were very interesting - I would have liked to go on the ramparts but that may be included in the Tower Tour, which is separate from the castle tour.

  • 4/5 Shahnoosh R. 2 years ago on Google
I loved the exterior architecture. It was like the castles in Disney animations. Although there is not much to see inside the Alcázar, it is worth visiting. The ceiling designs are beautiful and also the view of Segovia from the top.

  • 3/5 Stoian R. 7 months ago on Google
Take care, the tower is not always open. Overall this is a nice relaxing old building, well preserved and well restored, it deserves your attention. Moreover, you have some awesome views from the terrace.

Dazzling castle and grounds with stunning views in every direction. Worth taking a tower tour. The interiors are marvelous too. The highlight for me was the substantial and mind-blowing moat system. Truly one of the most historically significant places in Spain, the entire grounds (and great cafe/bar with outdoor terrazza) are filled with eye-popping treats and fine metal work. A must-see!

  • 5/5 William A. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful castle - great history tour. I wouldn’t recommend trying to park directly near, instead park at the aqueduct and walk - much better. Make sure to take the tour while there and go up to the tower.

A beautiful well preserved castle a must see whilst in Segovia. We booked tickets on line for the castle and tower visit. We walked from our accommodation but there are carparks close by. Incredible history and stunning views.

  • 4/5 Louis D. 1 year ago on Google
To enter the castle you must buy a ticket in the building left to it. You can choose for the tour to the tower (€7) or a normal visit (€4 for students). The castle has multiple rooms with each their function, the last room is a museum about artillery. Every room was decorated in a medieval style, some rooms have moorish influence and there is a info sign in almost every room explaining the history in English and Spanish. On the walls you can find Flemish tapestry and paintings. There is an arms room, throne room, study room, fireplace room, chapel room, a place outside with view and at last the (small) artillery museum. Very interesting experience and a must see for everyone visiting Segovia.

  • 5/5 David R. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely worth visiting, the scenery around the castle is a great backdrop. I bought tickets when I arrived and had to wait around 45 minutes for my time slot to enter. Rooms in the castle are ornate with a lot of weaponry but it’s quite quick to tour through. I’d recommend going up the tower for views back to the cathedral but it’s only accessible via stairs which require decent physical condition, so bear in mind.

  • 3/5 Dave C. 2 years ago on Google
Interesting building with a small museum inside, but overpriced to visit, since it only takes about 20 minutes to see everything inside. Personally, I think the outside views of the castle and Segovia are more interesting than the interior, and at no cost.

  • 5/5 Loer E. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent example of medieval architecture and lifestyle in Spain. The castle and the science laboratory are both excellent, well preserved and well-worth a visit. Views from the castle are truly breathtaking and its history has so much to tell. Architectural influence from the Ottomans and all art pieces make for a fantastic experience. A definite must.

  • 4/5 Cheng X. 1 year ago on Google
Super interesting medieval castle to visit, steeped in rich history, the home of 46 kings and queens. Probably not worth it as a standalone trip (it is a 90-minute drive from Madrid), but worth it combined with other sites (from Toledo or the aqueduct). Despite some rooms being rebuilt after fires or the thrones being replicas, the castle is extraordinarily well preserved. And it was fascinating learning about Queen Isobel and how/why she sent Christopher Columbus to explore. It wasn’t busy even on a weekend, so no advanced bookings are necessary I believe, but always nice to be able to go straight in. Recommend!

  • 5/5 Dan L. 9 months ago on Google
Most people walk around inside the town, but you should get out of the stone wall and enjoy the view from outside. It would not disappoint your kids to bring them to the castle which is distinctive by virtue of its shape - like the bow of a ship. Has served as a royal palace for 22 monarchs, it has a rich history and beautiful art and architecture.
