The Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye (Церковь Вознесения Господня) is an Orthodox church of the Danilovsky Prosperity of the Moscow Diocese. The temple is located in the Nagatinsky Zaton district, the Southern Administrative District of Moscow, in the former village of Kolomenskoye near Moscow. The temple is a masterpiece of world architecture, the first stone hipped temple in Russia.

Ancient Church built by Ivan III, the father of Ivan the Terrible. UNESCO Heritage site. Worth a visit. The park around this site is also nice to explore but best by bike.

A really nice place, I think this is the first church built with this type of steeple structure. Take a good walk in the park too.

We went on a Monday. The park was closed. There was maintenance work going on. No guidance on how to go about the place. No one speaks English. I wonder if all Russia is even interested in getting non Russian tourists!!

Church of the Ascension, built in 1532, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built by an Italian architect, it's the first "tent-roof stone church" in Russia. Apparently, it was built to celebrate Ivan the Terrible's birth.

Beautiful architecture but the exhibition inside is ridiculous in winter. It's not even possible to see the church, just some sort of basement with a couple of findings from the surrounding area. At the ticket office they didn't bother to warn us

Very unusual architecture, not typical for our churches, or maybe just little of that era has survived to us. Couldn't see inside. Closed for restoration for approximately two years

Now renovations are underway and the entire temple is covered with scaffolding. Those who want to shoot a beautiful landscape should wait.

(Translated by Google) Probably the most calm and sincere place in Moscow. In summer, on the banks of the Moskva River, views from here open up, from which life freezes, and everything around seems unimportant. Partly because of this place, I call Moscow a city of contrasts. I recommend everyone to visit.
