I have been here today ( March ) to be honest for me has been a beautiful day, it was sun and I didn’t hire any tour guide, it was little bit hard at the first part because a lot of mud and I have only trainers not proper mountain shoes…but for the rest I found quite easy arrive to the top! The visibility was good, but when I left the top started to be foggy so I would suggest to check always the conditions etc.

Opt for a guide will be easiest and safest to go while ensuring someone is there to answer your question about the surroundings. I went with Geleng and we camped a night there so it will be easy for sunrise. The walk to the camping area is about an hour. We had no luck for sunrise cause it rained non stop... But the crater is still very real and beautiful on its own. Some parts (mini landslides ) were extra muddy during the rainy season so just be careful.

We did the 4am start sunrise hike up the mountain with Geleng, and he was amazing! Very funny, very chatty, and LOVES volcanoes! It was the most mind Blowing experience being able to stand inside a volcano carter, especially with the puppies! Once we finished our hike, Geleng took us to a hot spring to relax. The whole trip took about 5hrs including travel time between each location and back to our accommodation in the heart of Berastagi. I don't think he has a website but we got his number from our accommodation to book which is on WhatsApp: 085297700529

Superb sunrise trek up mount sibayek. It’s a straightforward 15 minute drive to the parking area. Around 1 hour to climb up to the summit. No guide needed whatsoever, provided you have suitable lighting and are not walking alone.

I camped at Gunung Sibayak overnight on a weekday and I must say, it had a spectacular view of the mountain range with the constant flushing of the geysers. Camping grounds are easy to find due to the presence of a heck lot of rubbish in around it. However, the camping area is relatively clean area with some form of clay on the ground. As it was a weekday, we were the only ones on the mountain. The environment, though littered with rubbish, is quiet, tranquil and peaceful. Words won't describe how beautiful nature is. However, the lack of cover makes it dangerous in a lightning thunderstorm. In addition, there wasn't any mobile signal even at the crater top. Pro tip: Set your tent door away from the direction of the geysers + on the many flat surfaces

We started hiking up at 4.30am and reached there at about 6am. Could not really see much when we hiked up the mount. Sunrise was not very clear as it was abit cloudy. Pak Geleng (+6285297700529) being a very experienced tour guide and geoscientist had showed us lots of interesting spots and facts of Mount Sibayak. On the way down, we could see the real colors of Mount Sibayak i.e. flowers, gigantic pandan leaf, etc. This is definitely a must visit place. Worth the hike in super early morning!

Amazing views. 2-3hr climb depending on your fitness level. I started walking right off the base where the angkot dropped me off. Should you get a guide? Idk, for me i did coz im bad at directions & didnt wana take a risk. Should you go for sunrise walk & set off frm your guesthse at 4am? Based on my guide, it's a hit or miss, but in Sep 2017, it was mostly a miss w only 2 out of 15 sunrise views. To me, you need to wear long pants if you're descending via the forest+bamboo route. & i definitely recommend trekking shoes.

Beautiful hike on an active volcano with super interesting features. We came on a quick trip to Berestagi. Came on a cloudy day though so we missed a lot of the view unfortunately but it was still a nice hike. We went with a group of 4 with a guide Geleng (085297700529) and I can't recommend him enough! We've done plenty of hikes all around Indonesia and he was the most knowledgeable. He knows everything about volcanos in Indonesia and the surrounding geisers, as well as the rocks and plants all around the area. He also had great info on jungle survival skills. He was also very kind and had a great relationship with the local 3 dogs + 2 puppies - they hiked with us for the full summit. Not only that, he spent the 2 days prior to the hike messaging back/forth on WhatsApp to help us take the public busses from Medan to berastagi, and gave great info on how to travel around the North Sumatra region. The hike itself was easy if you have good shoes and a reasonable level of fitness

A few days ago we went for the sunrise tour on mount Sibayak. A nice volcano to climb if you are not really experienced yet with climbing/walking for a long time. We went together with Geleng, a local tour guide who knows a lot about volcanos. We can really recommend him! His English was good which made it possible to have nice conversations. Also he could answer all our questions about volcanos, which was nice because we didn’t know much about volcanos yet. You can reach Geleng on +62Β 852Β 97700529 he is very fast with replying! After the volcano he took us for breakfast and afterwards we relaxed at the hotsprings!

A unique experience. A must do if you are nearby! If you don't go in the dark, you can easily do the track without a guide!

We walked today with the help of our wonderful guide. It was a really nice walk. Not to hard. It was beautiful at the top. The only problem is the rubbish. It’s disgusting and so much everywhere. The government need to do some education to the local kids about taking their rubbish home. Even our local guide commented on how disgusting the locals were.

Very beautiful place to visit, especially at sunrise. You can climb the mountain within 2 hours via an alternative route. The route can be overgrown and muddy. Not many people take this route. Price 20k

Climbing Mount Sibayak was a genuinely memorable experience! Climbing an active volcano was on out holiday bucket list for our holiday in Indonesia. Our guide was Geleng (WhatsApp 085297700529) and when he was not amusing us with his cockney accent was an encyclopaedic fountain of knowledge about Sibayak and Sinabung. The climb is not too difficult as long as you are reasonably healthy.
