Priced like a 4 Star Hotel...delivers like a 2 Star...I travel on business 100+ days a year....Nothing worse than a front desk CSR with horrible customer service skills.. After dealing with her .. I made a few calls to other near by hotels..Unfortunately no availablity... due to this being Easter weekend..I would have checked out! Our lodging in Lisbon and Porto...Put this place to shame.. Americans traveling to Braga... Stay away. You can do better!!

As with all my reviews, they are meant to be constructive… The location and amenities of this hotel are unique and almost 5 stars. Stayed three nights in two different rooms and they were both different and interesting in a very good way. The staff is friendly, however, their friendliness seems forced and not 100% genuine. It is not that the staff is bad but they are not quite 5 stars level yet. I still recommend the hotel. WORTHY OF MENTION… Marcelo, the young man working as the valet was the only genuine smile which didn’t seem rehearsed. The view from the restaurant, pool and courtyard are fantastic.

Great location, the building is inside an old monastery, with views to the old church next to it. The outside pool area is neat, we could not enjoy the bar as the temperature was still too low for it to be open. Loved the experience of staying in such beautiful building

Very nice hotel! I got everything I needed. However, there was less offer for breakfast when compared to other hotels of the same group. The main pool was out of order and that was disappointing...

I recently stayed at the Vila Gale Collection Braga and I was really impressed with the property. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located close to shops, restaurants and attractions. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding. The hotel also has a spa, which offered a great selection of treatments. All in all, I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend the Vila Gale Collection Braga to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Portugal.

Overall, the Hotel Vila Galé is a good option if you are looking for a hotel located in the center of Braga. Regarding my stay, I would say that it was less than ideal. After checking in, I asked the front desk if the rooms included a wine opener, to which the answer was no, but one could be provided and brought to the room. That is understandable, and I did not have a problem with that. The problem occurred when a staff member came to my room to deliver the wine opener, she seemed annoyed by the request and rudely explained to me that she could not leave the wine opener as it "is my wine opener and I am not leaving it". I was shocked by this response and politely told the staff member that I have never heard this before and if I needed the bottle of wine open, I will contact them later as I was not going to consume the wine at that very moment. After being dismayed by this interaction, I was hopeful that this was a one time occurrence, but upon check-out the front desk staff informed me that I had an additional room charge for drinks consumed in the bar from the previous night. I was shocked and informed them that this was not a charge valid to my room and had to explain this to them. No customer should be put in the position to explain themselves for a charge that they did not make. It is absolutely unprofessional, and there should be checks and balances to ensure that the correct room charges are being properly inputted. This hotel needs to improve in several areas in order to be considered a top-tier property.

Beautiful historic building in a very convenient location. The free parking was good, but hard to find, and there was gridlock of new guests who did not know where to go. The breakfast was very good. The rooms were lovely and spacious, but the wifi was poor.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. It was spotlessly clean. Staff are welcoming and happy to accommodate any requirements. The room was a decent size and fairly well appointed. The bed was comfortable with quality bedding. The breakfast was perfectly fine, and plenty of it. We would definitely recommend the Hotel Vila Galé and would certainly book here again.

We just walked in to snoop the first floor of the hotel. We were very impressed, and the surroundings had the makings of a very comfortable place.

There are so many things that are right about this former convent/ now large hotel in an historical setting: Good service; nice people, all willing to help; nice breakfast; good location... now the negative: the decor and carpeting is atrocious/ looks like a biohazard! It's time replace carpeting, add new drapes, wallpaper, lamps, artwork...anything to lighten up this drab dark depressing interior. This hotel could be so wonderful with cosmetic upgrades!

I was somewhat disappointed by the hotel. The building and the room was very nice. But the service was bad. You hardly get information about the hotel when arriving. There is no folder with information on the room (what is complementary, how to get towels ..) Only if you turn on the TV, which we found out on the day of checkout. For anything, you need to go to the reception which is almost a pilgrim distance. And then the employee makes internal calls and lets you wait for 10 minutes. The pool area is really bad. The sand beds would fit into a one Star hotel. It is very loud and there is a huge constructions site right next to the hotel Breakfast was again very good, but noisy. Summary: bulding is impressive, the rest not so much

Great place. Could be better managed (for what it is) especially the breakfast arrangement.

Incredible! Service 2nd to none and you could not ask for a better location. A converted old hospital; I was lost in imagining the surgeries of bygone eras. Haunted, hmmmmm... perhaps. I for one would like to think so.

The hotel is very well located and the building is incredible and historical, very interesting experience. They provide good service as well. The staff is really gentle and polite.

Hotel is in a medieval large stone blocks church. The owners refurbished extensively and even an elevator. Rooms were clean and nice.

When you enter the hotel you feel as if you are going back in time. The rooms are very large, well maintained. The location is amazing.

Very special hotel, there is a sense of history in every corner, large and spacious rooms.

Honestly…underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, the reception was lovely, the service was great, and the location is spot on. But aside that, there was nothing to shout about. The rooms were that of a 3 star hotel (at most) they don’t provide disposable toothbrushes by default (if you ask they’ll bring it up but I find this strange) hot water was not working in the morning (it did work later) and for the price of a 5 star hotel, you honestly would expect more. Breakfast was average. Definitely below standard for a hotel of this rating. Staff are absolutely lovely though, no fault of theirs. If anything, management could consider investing more into updating the look, feel and experience of the rooms.

I can't rate the rooms but only the restaurant. Excellent meal.

Great property in terms of location and history. Decor in some áreas does not match the entire concept. Lack of coordination. Great pool and spaces. Just visited, did not stay there

First class hotel with first class service. Fabulous renovated building in keeping with its traditional design. Absolutely loved our stay and without doubt we will return. A special mention for Marianne.

It’s a good hotel, with great facilities, pools, gym and breakfast. Was amazing to know the history of the hotel but cannot stop complaining the offer of water is only for the first day even I stayed there for a week…. It would be great if they can offer water everyday and label somewhere that the drinks in the fridge is for charge. Totally, it’s good.

It might depend on what room you receive. Ours (141) was in a newly-built wing, next to an elevator, and there was ongoing creaking/sliding noise from it until late into the night. Room was spacious but quite bland. Bathroom was not separated from sleeping area by any door so light/noise isn’t blocked. Mattress was OK, as was the shower. TV system was third world (welcome screen garbled distortion, spontaneous channel changing without remote being touched). Like others have said breakfast was adequate but there was a feeling of overcrowding around the food troughs. Likewise with the pool: insufficient space for the number of people wanting to use it. Check-in awkward with many people standing around waiting to be served, and, weirdly, pool towels handed out at front desk upon receiving room key. (Why not just provide them at pool?) This was my first experience with the Vila Galé brand. Not sure if I would try them again.
