Lunch try out in ulu yam. Ordered the famous loh mee, braised pork meehoon, lobak, fish cake and kong po cuttlefish. Service was lacking due to lack of workers n lots of patronage. After 35mins wait all the foods safely arrived. The loh mee was good, they add in the vinegar during cooking. The soup based is dark in colour and the mee is flat as opposed to thick rounded type we find in other places. Only drawback is some might find the taste overpowering due to the infused vinegar. The meehoon was ok with ample pieces of meat. Lobak n fish cake is on par. Kong po cuttlefish tastes flat 😔😔. Pricing is ok but be prepared to wait.

One my way up to Kuantan, I thought I’ll detour and try the much vaunted Hulu Yam Lor Mee or Braised Sauce Noodles. This restoran comes highly recommended so I made my way there just before the lunch crowd. And the word Hulu comes to mind when I was trying get there. It was very deep beyond suburban area. But when the noodles arrived, all is forgotten. The noodles taste more like udon and it soaks up the braised sauce quite well. If you don’t like vinegar, you can ask for less and vice versa. The fish cakes were fried and very crunchy with every bite. My mistake was to come alone and I could not order fish and other stuff to try. Just sit there watching other tables enjoying. Must come again with more people the next time. Lady boss was very friendly. Offered me a type of chip made from pumpkins. Okay that’s new for me.

Even a non-fan of thick noodles will find the lor mee good. The braised meat fried beehoon is very fragrant. Fishcake is crunchy and meatroll is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also ordered ginger onion snakehead fish slice. Fresh and tasty. Try their coconut liquor. Very fragrant and sweet.

Ulu Yam old town, trying out the authentic Lo Mein 古早味 卤面. This is my second visit to this shop. Not my style (texture) of noodle. I enjoy the big jug of honey lemon in a hot noon. Ordered frog legs and fried Fu Chook with fish paste 西刀鱼炸腐竹。

Heard so much about their famous loh mee. Overated. But to my dissapointment its not nice at all. Firstly the lard taste so rancid until not able to finish it. Secondly they added in too much vinegar. Taste so sour and after taste of rancid. But the loh bak is good but on the pricy side each log bak cost rm10. Would not go again. Service here is not so good. A bit rude to customers.

We just want to find a place to try the classic Ulu Yam Loh Mee, this place seem like the most crowded place along the row, most of the shops here are selling Loh Mee. The Loh Mee is good, but beside pork, very simple and basic. Generally is a good place to enjoy Ulu Yam local foods, and don’t miss the Coconut Palm wine, can take away a bring home, RM10 per bottle.

I’m not a big fan of Lor Mee ie taste of Lor Mee for me is acquired. Hence, my review is based on being a non-fan of Lor Mee. There is taste of vinegar and the broth is a thick . Almost like having a shark fin soup . Shop also sells toddy which is easy on the tongue but sweet for my taste. Biscuits and chips are retailed here .

My favorite loh mee restaurant in Ulu Yam. The texture of the noodles is just nice. Beside Loh Mee, there are also other dishes you can order depending how hungry are you 😂😂😂 fried fish cake is good, the 5 spices spring roll is nice too. Drinks we always go for Honey Lemon in jugs, some may find it a bit sweet but I’m ok with the taste 😂😂 there is also local products displayed in the restaurant in case you need to bring home some for the family or friends 🥰

So little egg in the gravy and only 3 tiny pieces of pork in their Loh Mee S size. Taste is ok only. Don’t go

Ulu yam lor mee. Original taste. Noodle is fresh and chewy. Broth is heavy with black vinegar. Loh bak is well marinated. Fried to perfection. Crispy skin and soft meat fillings. Our favourite dish. The restaurant also serves tai chow type of food and Pahang river dishes like Patin fish. Along the road, coming from the truck road into the village, you will also see a few more house/shops selling their own versions of lor mee as Ulu Yam is famous for its black vinegar version of this noodle. Most shops have their own patrons.

Food quality is good, portion is large as well. Only service still have room to improve, should be more attentive and kind. Don't rush your customers when ordering, it makes people feel pressure. Also, toilet quality can be improved.

Food is good but be careful on the portion size. The 4 person noodle looked like it can easily feed 6-7 people. Small town portions tend to be larger. The pork bihun (khaw yoke mifun) is superb, the loh mee itself is normal but what made it good is the fragrance from the vinegar - and just nice too... Not too much or too little or too sour. The fried fuzhok with fish paste is also delish and the honey lemon in a jug is just the right thirst quencher on a hot day.

Very nice food. The loh mee already have black vinegar added in so they won’t give you black vinegar separately. The fried 白粿 is really nice, flavourful sauce and with wok hei, recommended to try. Have bought their orang asli honey many years, really nice quality honey.

Went there in the late afternoon. Ordered Loh Mee and Fried can stewed pork mee hoon. The portion for the food was huge. We could hardly finish all. The taste was good.

The best Loh Mee I'd eaten so far During my research on what to eat in Ulu Yam - it's a well-known fact that Ulu Yam is famous for loh Mee so naturally I would want to try one of the best (if not the best) - I found Swee Yen located in Ulu Yam Lama. A bit of detour from my intended destination but the lure of a good bowl of loh mee proved too much to resist. Sure enough, they were packed to the brim when we arrived but lady luck must be shining on me as one group of diners were leaving. Initially I wanted to order more food but the kids were still quite full, hence I could only order a few. ◾Loh Mee - Never thought I'd say this but I actually liked the noodle (not a fan of loh mee). The fragrant of black vinegar instantly permeated the nostrils as the bowl of thick noodle drenched in thick sourish broth.. kinda like shark fin broth. What I like about the noodle was the QQ texture of the noodle, the amount of vinegar was just right (not too much nor too little) and the fragrant from the pork lard. The accompanying sambal was such a perfect match with the noodle. ◾Fried fish cake & lorbak - ordered it for the kids to munch to keep their tummy filled but ended up eating most of them. Both were fried perfectly. ◾Fermented beancurd pork belly - still a favourite with the kids. I spotted nicely steamed river fish, freshwater prawns as well as the delicious-looking kau yuk mee hoon on other diners' tables but those will have to wait until my next visit to this area again.

22 June, 2023: Good food - loh mee, Braised pork belly meehoon was good too, but I think the amount of pork belly has reduced noticeably during my recent visit, compared with what I had last time.
