(Translated by Google) At the heart of the Medina of Sfax we hear the songs of prayers. From the top of the café Kamour you will see the minaret which is erected like a sunflower in the middle of the daisies. Magnificent mosque with historical architectures of the 13th century. Many monuments, fascinating places to visit in Sfax. I loved it, moreover the locals are very open minded, very friendly and courteous.

(Translated by Google) The Grand Mosque of Sfax occupies the heart of the city, surrounded by many approaches in all directions. It is located in a depression from the land until it was famous among the ancient residents of Sfax in the al-Hafra Mosque. Rather, the interesting thing is that the ancient religious teacher in Sfax was also known by other names that are dated to events or stations in its history, including: (Mosque of the Oligarchs), according to a narration that states that few donations are put in place for repair and restoration, as this jar was tightened on one of the pillars in which worshipers throw money at Their exit from prayer and in the evening the custodian of the mosque collects the money with the (few) money, even if a share of it is accumulated made in his reform. It was also known as the Sabaya Mosque, where seven early girls are said to be marrying, and they followed the life of asceticism until they grew up, and they gave alms to their funds to repair and restore the mosque. It is said that after their death, they were buried under one of its pillars. According to the oldest inscription in the south corner of the mosque, it was written in Kufic script in six horizontal lines and two vertical lines - and despite the demise of many of its written parts - we read what indicates that the earliest date for the construction of this central mosque in Sfax is the year 370 AH corresponding to the year 980 AD i.e. the end of the fourth century AH / late tenth century Gregorian. As for the old original establishment, it was mentioned by Sheikh Al-Faqih Abu Al-Qasim Abd Al-Rahman Al-Labidi, who died at the beginning of the fifth century AH, in mentioning the virtues of his Sheikh Abi Ishaq Al-Jabaniani (d. 235 AH / 849 AD) that his grandfather Ali bin Salem Al-Bakri, the judge of Sfax and the rest of the villages of the Sahel, was the one who built the wall The city and its mosque with milk (brick mixed with straw) between the year 234 AH / 848 CE and the year 240 AH / 854 CE, and most historians agreed that the foundation was precisely in the year 235 AH / 849 CE. As for the second phase of building this mosque, it was indicated by an inscription from the alabaster above the upper threshold in the eastern facade that this monument was renewed with stone and more solid materials during the reign of the Senhadji Abi al-Fateh al-Mansur who assumed African rule from the year 374 AH to the year 386 AH (984 AH) 996 AD), which was part of the Fatimid caliphate, settled in Egypt. It appears that the construction during this period included almost the most parts of the mosque, and this is evident through the urban and decorative aspects, especially in the southeast corner of the landmark. The chapel included the place that rose in the wall of the eastern facade from the rest of the north. As for the third phase, the mosque was ruined and its space diminished in the second half of the fifth century AH, after the city struck strife and wars. And the fourth and last stage is the one that printed the architectural and decorative specificity of the current mosque, during the Ottoman period during the period of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Furati Al-Akbar Imam of the mosque in the year 1114 AH corresponding to the year 1702 AD, i.e. the first of the eighteenth century AD, by order of the Turkish Prince Ibrahim Al-Sharif, and he ordered its reform, renewal and decoration, which is what He gave him his current urban and decorative character. This landmark is rectangular in shape, extending from north to south, and is spacious and highly structured, has eight doors ending in the house of prayer and saucer, and two doors leading to the wooden cord and then two doors leading to the Imam's compartment. There is no doubt that the architectural elements in this ancient mosque mixed between the character The local African and Turkish oriental nature, and this is evident in the luster and beauty of these elements in the chapel, corridors, windows, doors, silo and other elements of this religious landmark, in which the sheikhs of knowledge have been exported throughout the centuries and students of knowledge gathered from inside and outside the Tunisian countries, where education was developing Yes, the number of his students reached about six hundred pupils and students, and judicial hearings and scientific councils were widely welcomed, and this ancient teacher also contributed to resisting the French colonizer in various available means.

It was built during the Aghlabid period of Ifriqiya in the ninth century, which was a vassal state of the Abbasid Caliphate. The mosque was specifically constructed during the time of Imam Sahnun, a Maliki jurist from Kairouan (Original)

(Translated by Google) Historic center of the city of sfax; first mosque beaten in the city; on the other hand, the markets and the settlements are slowly being built; to achieve a singular and specific architecture of the medina of sfax. This monument is worth seeing; especially to see how its minarea jealously guards the secrets of a civilization made of plowing and knowing how to live. (Translated by Google) Large and characteristic mosque in the center of the city. It looks like an excellently restored brick building with an elaborate tower in the upper part, giving it considerable momentum even if the structure is squat. The interior, as always scattered with carpets, is collected and suggestive, with the environment supported by beautiful columns. Magical atmosphere.
