I am grateful to live only a few hours away from this sacred and historic site. Each time we visit is a special experience. You can choose to simply walk around if you don’t want a formal tour. Both options yield an uplifting memory. The spirit of this place is pretty special and speaks of great faith and sacrifice.

This is an incredibly spiritually moving, sacred and inspirational place. Step into the 1830s walking in the footsteps of Joseph Smith. Be in the same room where the Bishops storehouse began. Relive several key moments in church history. Imagine 500 wagon trains lined up to head out west. Start in the visitor center and have a free guided tour from very knowledgeable missionaries. Plan to have a relaxing picnic here. Don't forget to go up the road to Kirtland Temple OR drive 45mons to Johnson Farm.

Loved the history and what happened here. Elder and Sister Davis were so kind, eager to answer all our questions, and tried to taylor the visit to our interests.

This was an interesting find while out driving the area. Didn't have much time to work with, but the people staffed there was more than willing to take us through a tour and explain everything. I would have liked to do it. We did walk around for a few exploring the site. I would really have like to see the sawmill in operations.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has done an amazing job keeping this site in good repair. It is amazing to hear about the past, and see Joseph Smith's legacy. Very spiritual. Learned a lot!!

My family came out to check out this really charming historic community. We are not Mormon but that did not matter and the Elders who met us at the visitor center made us feel very welcome. We were introduce to our guides Elder and Sister Johnson and they were very kind and very informative. They took us around the grounds showing us a really cool sawmill and ashery, a store with copies of old ledgers, a school house and one of the older residences. The tour guides were great with the kids and answered all of their questions. I would definitely go back; it is a really interesting look back at a different time in American History.

Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and kind. Plan to spend about 2 hours here. Also, there are picnic tables for use next to the parking lot. The tour itself takes you through all the different buildings.

I come to see the multitude of nativities they put up every Christmas Season. Such a wonderful variety to view They are from many countries. They also offer tours of the grounds the old store and the mill. Nice people and willing to discuss the church or just a fun conversation.

Went to see the Nativaties that were set up. Over 400 on display, with over 1000 in storage. The guides are members of the church and were so well versed on every piece. They change the displays every year. The pieces were so beautiful, from all over the world. I can't wait to go back and see the displays next year

I’ve come multiple times. Wonderful place to learn about some of the rich religious history of Ohio. Free guided tours with kind knowledgeable volunteer staff. Kid friendly, but it is easier if your children are old enough that they will mind you not to touch the antiques that are in almost every structure and can listen to the tour guides. We’ve done it wrestling toddlers before, and it’s possible. The tour guides can give shorter explanations that are kid attention levels if needed. There are many buildings to walk in and see. Don’t miss driving up the hill afterwards to see the Kirtland temple and Joseph Smith home too. (The seasonal interior temple tours do have a small $10 admission fee that I think helps with temple preservation). Take a walk through the beautiful historic cemetery. Around Christmas they do a large nativity display that is definitely worth seeing! If you have questions or need accommodations don’t hesitate to call them. They have been very helpful when I have questions about planning our trips.

Fantastic historic site of great significance to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many interpretive exhibits, a visitor's center, and a number of restored buildings from historic Kirtland, the headquarters for the early Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The highlight is the Whitney Store, where Joseph Smith resided for a time and where a number of revelations significant to Latter-day Saints were received--also the location of the "School of the Prophets." Tours are conducted by missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They range from young and enthusiastic to older and more knowledgeable, but they are all amicable. They will be pretty open about how they feel about their faith; the tours definitely have a religious theme they don't shy away from, but I haven't seen them be overbearing.

Fascinating history with a spiritual feel. A special place to learn about the history of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints.

The Church of Jesus Christ has done a terrific job here of restoring a small portion of Kirtland to represent some aspects of life in the 1830s, with focus of course on Church founder Joseph Smith and other Latter-day Saints who lived in Kirtland then. Tour guides/missionaries are terrific and can adjust their tours based on the amount of time you have. Check it out for sure if you are on the area.

They offered two tours one historic, one religious, we asked for the historic and after a bit of shuffling a married couple appeared and begrudgingly tried to keep it mostly historic. While the wife was better prepared they both were terribly lacking in knowledge about the buildings their contents or inhabitants. While I understand that the secular and the religious are inseparable, there is a difference between religious history and religious proselytizing. This was heavy on the latter. As a major history buff I was very disappointed. It was amature at best if your interest was history Many of the articles in the buildings were not of the period ie mail in the general store from 1924 when it was supposed to be 1850

Super inspiring historical sites! A must see if you are visiting Kirtland! Come and get a tour of the building from a friendly tour guide couple! And watch the movie they have in the theatre upstairs! You won't regret it!

It was so spiritual and clean. The movies I saw were superb. It was fun learning about the saw mill. I love the fact that I was were my prophet Joseph Smith was at it made it real to me. I know that he saw our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ and was instructed to reorganize Jesus's church... I am a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
