This is why Americans think British food is terrible! My wife and I ate at the Griffin House shortly after they opened and we were looking forward to having a local pub in the area. Sadly the Griffin House is not that. The prices are high for and the food is average at best. The fish and chips were bland and the mushy peas were not only actually bitter and dry, but inedible, this not how fish and chips is supposed to taste. I ordered the burger which again was average. We each had a cocktail which seemed short of a full measure of liquor. Our bill was almost $80 for two non fancy entrees and two cocktails. My wife and I have both lived in NYC and I’m British, and we live locally. Charging Manhattan prices is all fine but to do that you need to provide quality, $18 for a watered down cocktail is not okay. If you want to charge elevated prices then you need to serve elevated dishes and drinks. All in all I feel you missed a great opportunity to serve the local populace and missed the boat by chasing the wallets of out of town visitors with sub par product.

I recently visited Upstate NY for the first time and was lucky enough to stay in Palenville at my boyfriend’s childhood home, literally a minute walk from the newly opened Griffin House. I’ve heard so many stories the past couple of years about this place that was a part of my boyfriend’s childhood and was so excited that we were able to dine here. The staff, the owners, the atmosphere, the food, the drinks are so outstanding! I started with the espresso martini, which was absolutely perfect. For food, we ordered the wings, fish & chips, chicken curry, and shepherds pie. The menu was carefully curated and food was a testament to it. Everything was delicious! Even though we were stuffed, I had to have the bread pudding - especially since this one has my favorite accompaniment - WHISKEY SAUCE. This seems so rare to find on a menu anymore. It was so good that I had to come back two nights later and make the bread pudding my last meal before heading home. Griffin House made our trip extra special, such a great gathering spot for locals and friends and I cannot wait to go back, hopefully in the fall. Until then I’ll be trying to recreate that whiskey sauce at home :)

Griffin house is great! We came for dinner opening night, the waiting area is spacious with chairs and a pool table although you don’t have to wait for long. You walk into a large room but it’s lighting and wood choice make it feel very cozy (the fireplace tiling is adorable). The cocktails were beautiful to look at and very yummy (recommend their take on the martini!). I had the Captain Walsh’s Curry for dinner which was delicious (I am enjoying my leftovers while typing this). Service was very quick and kind- definitely will be going back, a great addition to the town.

Absolutely beautiful venue inside and out. Intimate tables, I especially loved the stools at the table by the fireplace. Margarita was delicious and lovely selection of beer. Ordered the burger with a side salad, all around perfect dish and the real stand out was the Shepard pie… by far the comfiest coziest meal I’d eaten in a long long time. The portion was perfect and accompanied by the best garlic green beans. It’s wonderful to be able to roam around both inside and out. The picnic tables outside are the perfect place for gathering with a group and inside is cozy! Did I mention they have a pool table?! All around wonderful place and can’t wait for many many more visits with some of the nicest staff I’ve encountered.

Wife and I live within five minutes and I wanted some post hike food and also to support the new place in town. Atmosphere is good, interior design is really nice. Cocktails were very enjoyable. We got the smoked cod chowder; will be getting again soon. We enjoyed the potato skins (smaller serving) not sure if we would get again. We split the fish and chips for dinner. Very good. Will likely get again, made the wife happy. Overall we really enjoyed eating here and are likely to eat here or get takeout again soon.

We only had snacks, and they were delicious. My one complaint is that with a yard that big, I'd LOVE for it to have a separate beer garden menu/prices. As it is, it isn't the type of place you can go and drink all day and eat small bites at (both because it's expensive and lack of options). I hope the owners consider adding less fanciful food and snacks, at least to outside dining.

Stopped in for the Irish Music, and a meal. Music was really great! I wouldn't order the "Flatbread" pizza again. Shepard's Pie was tasty.

Fish and chips is authentic, light and crispy, tender noisy fish! I'll be back to try more yummy food inspired by the owners travels in Europe.

We just spent the weekend at the newly opened Griffin House. From our first interactions reserving a room we were impressed by the follow up and polite interactions with Autumn!. The room was wonderful and the grounds were very impressive from the views of the mountains in the backyard to fire pits. The place was absolutely stunning with a beautiful wood bar area and bartenders that knew their drinks and the area. They were polite and knowledgeable about the area and gave us numerous tips on what to see in the area. After arriving we realized Autumn did so much and was so attentive to all things going on with all guests it was truly amazing. Then let’s talk about the food. I truly believe I had the best hamburger ever!! And the fish and chips were fantastic. I was impressed by the whole staff and environment and can’t wait to return.

Title: A Charming Evening at The Griffen House in Palenville! We recently visited The Griffen House in Palenville for a delightful family dinner, and the experience was nothing short of fantastic! Despite not having a reservation, we were warmly accommodated with a cozy 4-seat table. The ambiance of this establishment is truly special, exuding a lovely Scottish inn feel that adds to the overall charm. The fireplace added a perfect touch to the atmosphere, making our evening even more enjoyable. As for the menu, we were impressed by the diverse offerings inspired by the owner's travels through Europe. My dad and I opted for the Shepherd's Pie with green beans, and it was absolutely delicious—flavorful and satisfying. My mum enjoyed a tasty burger, and my daughter loved the chicken tenders from the wee menu. The Griffen House not only offers a delightful dining experience but also manages to capture the essence of European inspiration. From the warm reception to the delectable food, our evening was a memorable one. Highly recommend to anyone seeking a charming atmosphere and delightful cuisine in Palenville!

One of their sister businesses “circle W” has started running their kitchen out of the griffins House at weekends. Prices have gone up and quality has gone down, $13.50 before taxes for a sandwich is getting a bit silly especially when my emaciated Ruben was very close to being vegetarian! The bar is nice but it’s a bit too expensive with so many other options around.

Another great night at the Griffin! Since they have opened their doors, my husband I have had several great meals at the Griffin. The view of the stream and the mountains from the garden, and the inviting interior make every seat in the house, a good one. The staff are friendly and local to the community, so it really adds to the spirit of the place. We particularly love the wings, fish & chips, shepherds pie & the curry.
