"Yu garden" is the most beautiful place that you can visit in Shanghai. It is located at north east of Old City of Shanghai, where it is also close to City God Temple. This place has so many tourists, so it is a crowded place since it is close to Yu Garden Bazaar. Therefore, consider 3-4 hours for visiting this place.

Exploring Yu Garden in Shanghai was a mesmerizing journey into Chinese garden artistry and history. The classical garden’s design, with its intricate architecture, tranquil ponds, and lush greenery. Strolling through the zigzag bridges, rockeries, and pavilions offered a peaceful escape from the urban hustle and bustle. The attention to preserving the garden’s heritage was commendable. The Yu Garden is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and seeking a serene yet culturally rich experience in Shanghai. Admission fees RMB30 ... Students RMB15 half price just show passport or student identification as proof. They are very strict on security hence passport is a sure way to buy tickets successfully.

It’s a cultural and architectural treasure of Shanghai built back in the Ming Dynasty. The pavilions are remarkably preserved. Typical of old Chinese architecture, the roofs of the buildings have exquisitely carved figures. The surroundings are so well designed. The Rockery garden is most impressive, naturally sculpted rocks and stones. Very green area. This is certainly a very recommended place to visit while in Shanghai.

Beautiful must see spot for every visitor coming to Shanghai. Showing off the beautifully restored buildings built in the Qing and Ming era, these buildings have been painstaking and carefully preserved to show their off the authentic Chinese architecture. Each corner is a picture postcard worthy shot. Very short distance from most major downtown hotels and the metro is just on the doorstep. Lots of dining options here including refined restaurants and tea houses and budget street food options. You can get tourist souvenirs from the myriad of small shops and malls in the area. The buildings light up after 530pm giving a different feel of the area. Gets busy in the evenings, weekends and public holidays. Plan ahead for your visit as road closures around the area are frequent for crowd control. 😀

A good place to view a beautiful garden of Chinese architectural concept. The place is extremely crowded over the weekend. There are plenty of food stalls and souvenir shops in that area. Suitable for people of all ages where there are also ramps allocated for wheelchairs as well as strollers.

Yu Garden in Shanghai is a captivating blend of traditional Chinese architecture and lush greenery, providing a serene escape from the bustling city. The garden, dating back to the Ming Dynasty, showcases intricate design, with classical pavilions, stone bridges, and meandering pathways. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the iconic Grand Rockery, a towering limestone formation adorned with caves and winding staircases. The juxtaposition of the rockery against the delicate foliage creates a harmonious balance. The layout of the garden is meticulously planned, incorporating elements like zigzagging bridges and koi-filled ponds, enhancing its picturesque charm. Each corner of Yu Garden tells a story, with the Heralding Spring Hall offering a glimpse into ancient Chinese architecture, while the Inner Garden provides a peaceful retreat with its bamboo groves and tranquil landscapes. The teahouses within the garden offer a delightful respite, allowing visitors to savor traditional tea while absorbing the historic atmosphere. Despite its popularity, Yu Garden maintains a sense of tranquility, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history and cultural significance. Whether exploring the intricate details of the architecture or simply strolling through the peaceful corridors, Yu Garden stands as a testament to China's artistic and horticultural legacy, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a glimpse into the country's rich heritage.

We passed by during day time to see what itbwas like during the day, and came back a little bit late to see the magnificence of the area at night. If you think it was pretty in the daylight, it is most definitely magnificent at night. We were just in awe of the beautiful sight. Definitely a must visit.

Pretty awesome place overall. They have a bit of tourist town built up around it but I appreciate how they went out of their way to make sure that the architectural style matched that of the gardens. The gardens themselves are very beautiful and well worth the entry price. It can get flooded with people but luckily I went on a weekday. In fact, I think everything in China should be visited on a weekday! Otherwise you will end up with too many people in your shots.

Beautiful classical Chinese garden, at the old city of Shanghai was built in sixteen centuries by Ming Dynasty. It was spread on two hector of land & had lot of pavilions, halls, stages, ponds, arch bridges & stone works. Big white dragon walls had big greyish black dragons on the top. A huge porous jade stone weighing five tons was on display. Beautiful Koi carps were in the ponds. A lot of tourists were enjoying the classical Chinese garden & were busy taking pictures. A must visit place while at Shanghai.

A must see if you come to Shanghai. Remake typical Chinese style with some shops selling some interesting tourists gifts. Worth seeing the temple and visiting the garden itself. Just try to stay clear of main festivals and weekends because it gets busy.

Yuyuan garden is a traditional chinese style garden with a history of around 450 years located at the heart of the old town. The garden was created and established in 1577 during the Ming Dynasty by the “Pan” family. In chinese, Yuyuan means peace and happiness and that was the main purpose of building the garden. . . The garden covers around 20000 square meter and divided into six main sections, where each section has its own scenic views, features, pavilions and halls. Walking through the place will make you feel that you are in a labyrinth, where the six sections are connected with each others by stone bridges, caves and lakes. This historic attraction became a home for artists, architects and poets. Some of their artworks, calligraphies and masterpiece can be found in the decoration of the pavillions, the furniture of the halls and the sculpture of the walls. The best time to visit the garden is the spring to enjoy the green. It will take you around 2-3 hours to finish your walk in the garden and will cost you around 5USD. At night the part will be closed but I recommend to visit the area just to enjoy the amazing lighting and take some Stunning shots. Traditional chinese musical live show will take place inside the garden at the theater. You may check their timing if you are interested. .

Great touristy place to check out food and souvenirs for the family. Gets crowded, so be prepared and be careful of the hustlers there. It's fun place. Not sure if you can get many vegetarian options for food, but you could try. I didn't want to waste my energy explaining. Definately a visit once. (It gets monotonous after 45minutes..😜)

The historic architecture, traditional bridges, and ornate pavilions are beautifully illuminated, creating a magical ambiance. The iconic Jade Rock and serene ponds reflect the shimmering lights, enhancing the charm of this classical Chinese garden. It is a so lovely historical place that is so recommended to visit in Shanghai. Yu Garden or Yuyuan Garden (traditional Chinese: 豫園; simplified Chinese: 豫园; pinyin: Yù Yuán, Shanghainese Yuyoe pronounced [ɦy²².ɦɥø⁵⁵], lit. Garden of Happiness) is an extensive Chinese garden located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai at Huangpu District, Shanghai. It abuts the Yuyuan Tourist Mart, the Huxinting Teahouse and the Yu Garden Bazaar. This garden is accessible from the Shanghai Metro's Line 10 and Line 14 Yuyuan Garden station. A centerpiece is the Exquisite Jade Rock (玉玲珑) a porous 3.3-m, 5-ton boulder. Rumours about its origin include the story that it was meant for the Huizong Emperor (Northern Song Dynasty from 1100 to 1126 AD) at the imperial garden in Bianjing, but was salvaged from the Huangpu River after the boat carrying it had sunk. Yu Garden was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, the minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan began the project after failing one of the imperial exams. He named the garden Yu Yuan, yu(豫) meaning "pleasing and satisfying to one's parents." His motivation to build this garden is to show filial piety to his parents and make them enjoy in their old age. Thus, Yu Garden is also known as "Garden of Peace and Comfort." However, Yunduan's appointment as governor of Sichuan postponed construction for nearly twenty years until 1577.

Beautiful garden however, it is extremely crowded even in the mornings. As it is cobblestones/uneven surface would not recommend if you/someone you are with has accessibility issues. The Yuan Market is extremely close. The QR codes to book outside the venue don’t work so you may need cash to buy tickets in person, line takes like 2 mins and the wi-fi connection is poor.

Beautiful garden in the heart of the old city. The shopping and old-Shanghai style buildings around it make it fun to get to. There were a lot of people and many tourists, so it was fun to meet and speak with a lot of people from all over China. All the kids there loved the fish and turtles, and if you want to save a few bucks or forgot to buy tickets at least a day in advance like we did the first time, you can spend a while on the zig zag bridge overlooking the pond. The garden's entry price is very reasonable and it is worth a look.

Definitely need to come here at night to see all of the Chinese style buildings light up. Be prepared for large crowds though there's a lot of people that it was hard at some points to move around. There's lots of cafes and restaurants everywhere with lots of food carts as well selling local delicacies and treats. Also there's lot of souvenir and touristy stores here but I would recommend to avoid them as they're very overpriced and usually tourist traps. The garden itself is very beautiful and takes you back in time. Apparently it was a garden that was gifted from a loving husband to his wife during the dynasty so it has a pretty romantic history. Garden is very well maintained too, lots of koi ponds around and little bridges that connect each other. Come during the day for the gardens and back again at night if you can for the food and light sights.

(Translated by Google) The only well-preserved ancient garden in the center of Shanghai, adjacent to the Old City God Temple in Shanghai, is a Jiangnan classical garden. It was built during the Jiajing and Wanli reigns of the Ming Dynasty and covers an area of more than 30 acres. It was once one of the eight scenic spots in Shanghai at the end of the Qing Dynasty, and then became deserted. It was restored and opened to the public in the 1960s. It is a rare classical landscape in Shanghai. It is also the most popular classic tourist attraction in Shanghai due to its proximity to Chenghuang Temple and Laochengxiang.

One of the most popular tourist sites in Shanghai is the Yu Gardens (Yuyuan, 豫园). This classic Chinese garden is located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai. There's entrance fee to the Gardens, which is well worth the ticket price. There are lots of stalls selling souvenirs around the area, as well as plenty of local street food for the stomach. This area is an attraction for the locals as well as international tourist. The Gardens were very packed with visitors during our visit.

When darkness falls, the garden closes, but at this time in the old quarter a very beautiful illumination of buildings turns on - you can walk for a long time. In the old quarter there is a large food court, a lot of cafes and street food.

Pretty cool area. Little small but was really enjoyable. Little Rock areas to crawl around and almost a bit of a maze. Wasn't that busy. It's not a "holy cow" attraction but definitely enjoyable. Also a really authentic looking souvenir store. Items ranging from ¥20 mini tea sets to ¥60,000 Jade carvings.

Really huge garden with a distinct rock architecture, dragons walls, some courts. It is quite touristy and lot of tourist crowd. Close to the Bund and walking distance. You can get lost walking around. Nice water flowing small canals , rooms. Good to sit and relax

Yes, as others have mentioned often, it’s busy here whatever time you visit. But don’t let that put you off because it’s a friendly place and well worth the queuing to reach the front photo perfect spots. There’s plenty to see and admire without having to pay to enter the main garden area and roaming the narrow shopping streets is also a must-do in itself. There is quite a few people in the surrounding area hassling you to buy stuff, but a simple “no thank you” keeps them away so don’t be put off or discouraged by them. It really is a hive of activity here and beyond the stalls and bustling groups of tourists lots of culture and architecture to marvel at. If you’re in the city then you really have to pass through.

(Translated by Google) After a zig-zag bridge over a body of water, I buy my ticket and enter the famous Yu Garden (entrance tickets are not expensive (especially if you are a student)). A word of advice: go there on weekdays in the morning so as not to be bothered by the crowds. What a haven of peace ... The trees were budding, some were starting to bloom. The garden is large and the walk pleasant. I took full eyes! I highly recommend. Take the opportunity to then stroll through the old town.

A scenic oasis and beautiful temples to visit and admire. The ornate statues and beautifully trimmed topiary complemented the Chinese architecture. There is much to see and just soak up. Hope to return.

Old town, with chinese bazaars, little stalls and little eateries. Bought some souvenirs and had some quick bites. You will spend at least 2 hours here, checking out old streets. Pretty packed during tour seasons )

Such a wonderful place to visit. There are beautiful spots to enjoy the beauty. Get lost and walk around the garden. Just outside the garden there are vast numbers of shops and soup dumplings and stalls.
