Stay away or be prepared to lose anything or any money in your room. The room was nice but I had $600 USD stolen from the room safe while I was out. Other reviews also mention that money is stolen from rooms. The hotel was very rude when I brought this to their attention, I was shocked that they were angry with me for bringing theft in their hotel to their attention. Service generally was inattentiveness or annoyed with myself and other guests so it would not be surprisingly to me that employees regularly steal from guests. Nobody other than myself and house keeping had room access but there were also routinely escorts soliciting in the lobby asking people to swipe them into different floors on the elevator and offering illegal services so who knows what is going on at this place.

I attended the 36th floor for after dinner drinks and while the venue was half empty with many available seats, we were confronted by staff and management requesting a minimum charge of RMB 2200. We asked why this was necessary given we only had one hour to share a drink and they mandatorily insisted on the minimum charge advising us that this was Shangrila policy. From my experience in staying at 5 star hotels (including other Shangri-La branches worldwide) this is the first time of have been requested to spend such mandatory minimum charge. We were not offered a special room, space or table but only offered a bottle of Macallum which would require us to finish within the hour. This is unrealistic and very unfortunate that we experienced this. I would suggest that if this is Shangri-La policy that they should revise this policy (or exercise discretion in certain circumstances). An unwelcome response especially with China now reopening for travel. Very disappointing.

Hotel and rooms are good but for a brand like Shangri La, its quite foreigner unfriendly. Not much English is spoken either at the reception or for services like housekeeping etc, which makes it very time consuming to get help organized on any issue. Housekeeping response in particular os extremely poor. Not quite sure how such a big hotel manages to survive with such basic elements missing

Stay is not awful but should not be considered a 5 star hotel. There are much better places to stay in the area. Things that could be changed: 1) Check In seems to take 20 minutes per person and insufficient staff on the counter. 2) Rooms are clean and fine, but if being picky you could say dated. 3) Breakfast is a shambles and this is my main problem with the hotel. Don’t bother coming at 8am because you won’t find a seat. If you do you’ll be shown to some dark seated corner in the bowels of the hotel devoid of sunlight and then have to fight for your food. You’ll be pushed out the way whilst you’re waiting for your eggs and the staff will do nothing to help. Orange juice is from concentrate. If you like the idea of a Chinese food court but want to pay top notch prices then this place is a go!

Stayed here for a week and was able to see all of the hotels amenities. The facility is immaculate, staff courteous and welcoming. All of the food service was refined, fresh, contemporary and innovative. The chef at that time did culinary sculpture demonstrations. The hotel is located convenient for walking or taxi to many dining, shopping, banking and historic venues. View from the rooms of the Yangtze River and its' bustling traffic is an attraction of its own.

Very nice room and atmosphere. Great location! Judy in the Executive Lounge was extremely impressive...after meeting me once, she remembered my name every time she saw me and was also extremely attentive to my needs. Rarely do I experience this type of service. The other staff in the Executive Lounge were also extremely attentive. I've been to many Executive Lounges and the service at yours is the best (among many other fine places).

Returning after Covid layoff for 3 years...been coming here for 18 years, 3 times a year, and was very disappointed at how the staff, Yi Cafe, Horizon Club had declined in all aspects, to the point of me getting very agitated with them. I think I will look for another hotel for the future, as what kept me returning over the years was the personal touch, great service and feeling like being at home. Sad really!!

My stay was absolutely fabulous. The staff at the Horizon Club Lounge was always utmost attentive and friendly. I will certainly come back alone on business or with the family for vacation. The location of the hotel is very good (although lacking an underground connection to the metro which would have been nice during the wet weather period). A wide variety of restaurants, everything neat and clean, a place which can be truly recommended. Last but not least: the rooms were not overpriced in comparison to the competition (I was travelling on a very good travel agent package).

The hotel is magnificent! Beds are comfortable. Kind staff. But one in particular went out of her way to help me. Dolly at the front desk. I was having issues with my bank card and had no funds and she helped me get in contact with my bank. Her sweet smile and caring persona helped calm me. I was able to find a solution and have a great stay. Thank you so much Dolly! Aside from that, I highly recommend the buffet breakfast.

Everything was great! The staff people were polite and friendly everywhere in the hotel, Rita in the gift shop, the ladies and gents at registration, the concierge guys, the bellmen, the breakfast restaurant staff, the Exchange Grill staff, and the exercise area staff. The room was very clean and comfortable, nicely furnished. The exercise equipment was very good and I enjoyed laps in the pool, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi every morning. (The only thing I regret is leaving my phone charger in room 1809, but that was my fault.)

Great hotel but had a corporate feel to it from the decor, staff uniforms etc. Breakfast buffet, although there was a load of variety, it was all pretty generic with nothing standout. Massage I had was excellent. Pool and change room very nice and not at all busy. Rooms large with great views over Pudong area. Bathrooms also spacious. Decor in rooms again not so nice. Didn't feel luxurious at all. More like a jazzed up holiday inn. Very close to a luxury shopping mall with a supermarket in the basement with a lot if western items. Also close to another mall with a lot if really good restaurants in it and an arcade for kids. I prefer smaller hotels with comfier more design led environments. I would definitely stay there again, but visually not so appealing.

The Reception staff at the Horizon Club Lounge were extremely helpful, especially Leah He, who completed check in for our 7 rooms expeditiously. Housekeeping was also very good, keeping our rooms clean and well stocked with fresh linen every day. Dining at the Lounge was convenient with a good range of beverages and food to order at breakfast. Evening menu needs improvement

We would like to thank your staff Tommy Ma for helping us with an upgrade of the room. The room itself was really exceptional, easily one of the nicest, if not the nicest my friend and I has stayed in, with 2 toilets and an extremely huge bathroom. The room service was also fast and thorough, and for that we are very grateful. However, we were disappointed by the inability of the door staff/valet to help us call for a taxi. We thought that a taxi could be easily arranged at the conciege or by the staff at the door as it says online taxi service queue. Unfortunately, we were not assisted throughout our 2 days stay with taxi booking, and had to wait outside for a cab, which can be difficult to come by since most use Didi, but as foreigners we do not have access to. The breakfast spread, though has a good selection, was also lacking in terms of not being kept warm enough for the cooked food section, the scrambled eggs and omelette were also too dry and is the worst I have ever eaten in hotel breakfast. Isn't scrambled egg suppose to be moist, with butter and cream, not dry and crumbly? My friend and I therefore enjoyed the salad and fruits section the most, which is unfortunate. Overall, we did enjoy our stay at Shangri La but felt that there's still some services that are lacking, that my friend and I were expecting from a five-star hotel at Shanghai's central business district. I am hoping that our next stay here will be more fuzz free with the taxi booking (which is a very basic service, one that even a hotel we did not stay in helped us with during our travels in Shanghai) and better breakfast food.

Hotel itself is phenomenally. I was reading some reviews saying that the staff aren't friendly and they won't smile at you, so I was expecting the same attitude, especially since I'm a young backpacker. But the staff has greeted me every time I walked by the lobby and in the elevator. They try to keep it very clean, so when swimming in the pool, you must wear a cap which I wasn't used to. The breakfast buffet they served is probably the best I ever had. They have a range of assortments from tradition dim sum, to chinese food, to western style with desserts! The only con I had was the rudeness of the other guests staying at the hotel. I was expecting a friendlier environment for guests who would choose to stay here, but they were just coughing without a masks or covering their mouth, skipping you in line, tedious things like that, but I feel like it's their norm. Other than that, location is also perfect! It's like a short 5-7 min walk to the metro! The fancy mall next door has a grocery store in the basement as well with other affordable dining options!
